Series Programs for Little Kids Me and My Baby, the First Year Together This new program especially for moms with new babies is a time for you to reconnect with yourself and to connect and meet with other new parents. Join us each Friday morning @ 10:30. Each week features a different theme and time for play, talk, and refreshments. Register for a reminder, or just drop in. September 18, Resources around town, and around Connecticut September 25, Exercise and You: Yoga, walking, and meditation time will be featured October 2, Nutrition and your baby October 9, Sleeping and You: Relaxation techniques for your baby. Lullabies and board books and the parenting collection will be highlighted. October 16, Finding your style: Fashion tips, shopping ideas, and homemade products for you and baby will be presented. Parenting Workshops from the Bristol Hospital Parent/Child Center Bring your toddler for this series of interactive workshops with a parenting educator from Bristol Hospital’s Parent/Child Center. All caregivers are welcome. We will have toys and supervision available for the toddlers, who will remain in the same room. Funded by the Farmington Exchange Club. Register for one, two, or all three workshops!

Communicating with Toddlers Thursday, September 3, 10:00—11:30 Register This interactive session will explore what is coming ahead for 1 to 3 year-olds, why, and suggested ways to communicate and help your toddler with newfound independence. Disciplining your Toddler Thursday, September 10, 10:00—11:30 Register This workshop discusses a variety of discipline techniques to achieve desired behaviors in your toddler. Topics include toddler development, the child’s ability to understand and creative ways to decrease unwanted behaviors. We will discuss the underlying causes of hitting and biting and temper tantrums, brainstorm ways to prevent them, and discuss how to cope when a tantrum does happen, despite your best efforts.

Potty Training Boot Camp (back by popular demand!) Thursday, September 17, 10:00—11:30 Register

This workshop will include a discussion, focusing on such issues as knowing when you and your child are ready, identifying the right time to train and methods for making this a positive experience for everyone. Please register for each.

Fairy House Workshop Friday, August 28 & Friday, September 4, 3:30 (meet at the Main Library) Friday, September 11, 3:30 (meet at Winding Trails for installation) Architecture, engineering and art meet to create fairy/gnome houses to be displayed at the 5th annual Nature’s Open House tour at Winding Trails. We will meet at the Library to build and then bring our creations to Winding Trails for installation. Bring natural items like pinecones, acorns, sticks, and twigs to the first meeting. Salt Dough Afternoon Tuesday, September 8, 4:30—5:30 Make a mess at the library because learning and experimenting with art materials is messy and FUN. Make salt dough from a simple recipe using flour and water. We provide the space, the clean-up, the cookie cutters and the rolling pins. You supply the imagination and creativity. Do you want to read to Lucy, our library dog? She is waiting to see you. Bring your favorite book you are working on in school or choose one of ours and

Celebrate New England Join the fun the fourth Monday of each month when we celebrate the seasons, New England-style!

In September, families will enjoy sampling different varieties of apples, and try apple pie to apple cider. In October, try your hand at pumpkin carving, and explore Halloween folklore. In November, we’ll visit Thanksgiving traditions. Please register for each program individually. Mondays @ 6:30

Scratch Jr. Saturday, October 17, 10:00—10:45 Coding is the new literacy! With this interactive iPad app from the MIT Media Lab, children ages 5—8 can program their own interactive stories and games. In the process, they learn to solve problems, design projects, and express themselves creatively. Caregivers encouraged to stay for the program. No experience necessary. Please register. World Language Early Literacy Playgroups Speak to your child in the language you know best! Join us at Farmington Library to connect

with other families who speak your language. Play, socialize, and explore our foreign language collections. For children ages birth to five and their caregivers.

We are currently sponsoring playgroups for families who speak Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish, but we’d love to add more languages to our lineup. Do you speak another language at home with
