President’s Corner
Merry Christmas to all. Don't forget, this is our
Christmas Party meeting. Everyone usually brings
cookies or some type of desert so that everyone can
have something.
This is the last meeting before the show, so we will
find out from Catherine and Leslie any new
arrangements or plans.
In the past Nancy Baker has called our meeting
venue the day of so that there are no
surprises. Nancy has done this for a few years, and
now she would like someone else to have a
turn. Please let me know if you can take care of
that job for us. Thank you for doing it for so long,
Nancy. That is a little known but much appreciated
job.
I would like to call a short Board meeting prior to
our meeting to go over one item. Board members,
please be there by 6:30.
Please make sure Maureen has your correct phone,
address, and email as she is working on an updated
membership list.
I want to take this time not just to wish you a very
Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year,
but to thank you for all you do for the club.
Have a wonderful show and make sure Gail and
George get all your brags.
Merry Christmas, and as tiny Tim would say, God
bless us everyone.

General Membership Meeting
The regularly scheduled membership meeting of the
Brevard Kennel Club, Inc., was called to order by
President Edna Corney at 7:00pm on Wednesday,
November 2, 2016.
Minutes Maureen Finch–please let the record show that there
was no membership meeting in the month of
October due to hurricane Matthew. The minutes
from the September meeting were not available;
Catherine Crampton will provide them for reading
at the December 7 meeting.
Treasurer Report Betty Page–accepted as provided.
Show Report
Catherine Crampton is in the process of putting
together the judging panel for the June shows. Pam
Hinton will be “retiring” as the trophy chairperson
for the December and June shows. Tonya Williams
will take over the chairperson position.
In response to member requests to eliminate
exhibitor names and addresses from the back of
show catalogs, Catherine needs to speak with Linda
Rowe as well as the Show Superintendent. She
hasn’t forgotten; she just has to plan the time to get
with both Linda and MBF.
Handling Classes Blake Hansen–the last handling class for the season
will be Monday, November 28, 2016. Classes will
resume again on Monday, January 9, 2017.
Match Maureen Finch–the match went well. Those in
attendance had a wonderful time. The judges were
happy with the turn out and quality of the dogs
entered. We had 39 entries plus 6 junior entries.
According to AKC, the average number of entries
for a match is 25.
The Fast CAT was a tremendous success. We ran
51 dogs in the morning and an additional 51 dogs in
the afternoon.
With all being said, there are some things as a club
that we need to work on. Maureen, Edna, Leslie
Kovacs, and Kristin Halkovic will get together to
create a “How To” book for the match as well as the
Fast CAT.
Legislation Edna Corney–the NAIA meeting is the weekend of
November 5-6 in Orlando.
Public Relations Edna Corney–the club is handing out flyers for the
National Dog Show in Orlando in December. The
flyers were provided by Royal Canin and AKC.
Old Business
Edna Corney–Brevard County Sheriff, Wayne Ivey,
will be presenting the Best in Show trophy on our
day during the National Dog Show. Edna and
Catherine met with Sheriff Ivey to discuss a
partnership between his office and our club to
provide disaster relief for animals during times of
crisis. The Sheriff was excited about the idea and
another meeting has been scheduled to further
discuss plans.
The Greater Ocala Dog Club donated $2,000 and
FAKC donated $10,000 to obtaining an AKC
Disaster Relief Trailer two years ago. The trailer
can only be assigned to a 501-C3 corporation or a
government entity. No Marion County entity was
willing to take this responsibility, so the Brevard
Kennel Club has stepped up to the plate and
arranged for the Brevard County Sheriff’s
Department to take charge of the trailer. Brevard
Kennel Club’s portion of the sponsorship to AKC
for the disaster relief trailer could be between
$4,000 and $8,000. A motion was made to
authorize the Board for Brevard Kennel Club to
spend up to $8,000 for the sponsorship of the trailer.
With the majority in favor, and one opposed, the
motion carried. Edna Corney will negotiate the
donation.
Valerie Davies checked into the equipment to run
the lure for CAT tests. The cost is between $3,000
and $4,000. Leslie Kovacs is waiting on a price
quote from a different vendor.
The Board has set a new policy which prohibits the
club from accepting money from non-members for
guest dinners at the annual club dinner at Café
Margaux. This is to avoid giving the impression
that BKC is selling discounted dinners at the
restaurant to people who are not cub members.
