Over the next ten days they will get to experience the life of a Year 6 student at Bardia PS. They will also attend three excursions: The Botanical Gardens at Mount Annan, a wildlife park and a ferry trip to Manly Beach! We have a wonderful city and it will be a great experience for these young people. This also provides a great opportunity for our students to get to meet children from another country. The exchange of ideas and information should be invaluable! Please note that our canteen is struggling to stay open. Unless we all purchase regularly from the canteen we may have to shut it on Mondays and Tuesdays, permanently! There have been several serious traffic incidents on Arthur Allen Drive in front of the school. There has been a car accident and several people have almost been hit by cars. Please park south of the cement bollard corner of Arthur Allen Drive. Please do not use the bus bay as a kiss ‘n’ ride. Soon council will remove the kiss ‘n’ ride signs and after this the police will begin booking people using the bus bay. To all the many people who contact the school each day to complain about the irresponsible actions of others, we share your frustration! However, we are not the police and apart from requesting that people behave with consideration toward others, we too are powerless. Thank you to all those parents who have signed up to Buzzy. We have about 370 parents on board! Still a few glitches to iron out but it will be fantastic when we are all using Buzzy. Term 1 – Week 6 – 2019

Message from the Principal

Dear members of the Bardia Public School community,

This morning our twelve Year 6 guests from China arrived.

If you wish to sign up to the app yourself, you should complete the following easy steps:

1. Request access at: buzzy.education.nsw.gov.au

Library News Wow! Week 6 already! The children have started coming to library and have been loving the new space… The library is also open to parents on Monday and Thursday mornings from 8:30am -9:00am. The library is closed on Fridays. Children are able to come to the library 2nd half of lunch Monday to Friday for reading, drawing and games. Students must have a library bag (cloth not plastic) bag to borrow for home. Primary students will be allowed to borrow one book for the classroom if they do not have a library bag. We do this at Bardia Public School because if the child remembers their bag they remember their books. A library bag also protects the books and separates them from your books at home. During this term we will be discussing ways to remember our library bag and useful rituals to have at home. Please check your child’s library day as there have been some changes:

Monday

K/1H & 1/2H Possums Hub, 2/3K & 2/3S Wattle Hub, KA & KM Koalas Hub, KP & KK Echidnas Hub

Tuesday

4/5/6 Banksia Hub, 1D & 1R Kookaburras Hub, KW & KR Kangaroos Hub

Wednesday

3/4F & 3/4L Waratah, Hub 1/2C & 1/2F Emus Hub, 2O & 2S Cockatoos Hub

Thursday I also have the library open on Thursday afternoon 2pm-3pm for parents. Toddlers are welcome!

Happy Reading! Kathy Wyber Teacher/Librarian

Did you know? Our library is called

Goldie’s Library because we have always had a fish

called Goldie.

Swimming Carnival

On 18th February Bardia Public School had their swimming carnival. Around 9:00 we left the school to go Macquarie Fields swimming centre. We sorted ourselves out into our three sporting houses Hughes, Barton and Curtain. Soon the races commenced. During the races we took turns to go and have fun at the splash park. At the splash park there were cool water slides and a colossal bucket of water that would tip on everyone. There were a few different types of races to compete in such as freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke and relays. After the whistle went, the racers would begin and all the sporting houses would cheer very loud. After all the races were done everybody got a chance to do some novelty swimming. At the very end the racers got a turn to go to the splash park too. Everybody had a lot of fun and we can all agree that our swimming carnival was spectacular! Nishka and Chase. Special mention to the following students who will be representing Bardia Public School at the Fields zone carnival: Jordan, Kelsey, Seth, Jack, Kalan, Isla, Talena, Max, Bailey, Caleb, Jaxson, Hayden, Rymon, Na’eem, Catalina, Kaja, Nishka, Tyler, Ella Good luck to all competitors! Mr McMaugh

Don’t forget to bring your hat and jacket purchases to the office for embroidery with your child’s unique initials. We retain a register of all records so we can return any lost items to the students.

CRAFT SESSIONS

We are running craft sessions during the lunch period. If

you have any craft items you could donate (e.g. wool,

knitting needles, ribbon etc.) please hand in to the office.

All donations welcome.

We would like to give a huge thankyou to everyone who

has already donated.

Mrs. White – SLSO

For every deposit made at school, no matter how big or small, students will receive a cool Dollarmites token. Once students have individually collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for a school banking reward item in recognition of their continued savings behaviour. Remember our school earns 5% commission on every deposit made (to a maximum of $10 per individual deposit). Thank you for supporting the School Banking program at Bardia Public School.

School Banking

Wednesday is school banking day and

students should bring in their weekly

deposit to the front office before 9:00 a.m.

decided to have TACO TUESDAY and SUSHI WEDNESDAY every week

starting from week 7. Because these are new special menu items I kindly ask for

these to be pre-ordered no later than the day before at the canteen so it gives

Jade and I time to prepare.

2 x Chicken, Cheese and Salad Tacos $6.50

2 x Vegetarian Chickpea and Salad Tacos $5.50

1 x Tuna, Cucumber and Lettuce Sushi Roll $3.80

1 x Vegetarian Salad Sushi Roll $3.50

What We Have Been Doing in OSHC

We have been having a blast in OSHC! The children attending our program have already made

great new friendships, learnt more than ever before and best of all, have been having heaps of

fun. There’s been a variety of different activities and games that children of all ages have been

engaging in.

Week 4 was all about friendship , we had a range of activities such friendship bracelets and

friendship cards. We also played group games such as musical statues and Duck duck goose. In

this week the children had the opportunity to introduce themselves to each other and make more

friends. Also, we implemented a buddy system into our program to help kindergarten students

settle in.

The theme of week 5 was sport. Children enjoyed playing some physical activities together and

having fun. Some children were interested in hoola hoop games and skipping ropes while

majority of the children enjoy playing handball the most.

Every day we aim to deliver a high-quality program that interests and engages your child, whilst

getting to know them. That’s why our program is tailored to and guided by the needs of the

children attending our service. In OSHC, your child can enjoy and engage in activities ranging

from indoor and outdoor play time fun, constructive and manipulative play, as well as creative

time. There’s also quiet time for homework, reading and relaxation.

We’re here to make OSHC the best experience possible for your child and family. If you have

any questions about the program, feel free to drop by, meet our team and see what happens in

our program first hand.
