Imagining what it is like to be someone other than yourself is at the core of our humanity. It is the essence of compassion and it is the beginning of morality.

Bali SoDA offers a wide range of studies in the performing arts either at our school or at other schools and universities in Bali. We are often told that the experiences we provide benefit many areas of our student’s lives by helping them developing specific talents, assisting with communication skills, building self confidence and of course the thrill of live performance opportunities.

Ian McEwan (writer)

Involvement and study of the performing arts at Bali SoDA enriches the student not only in the realm of theatre, but gives them a deeper understanding of the cultural and personal values required to live one’s life to thehighest and most demanding artistic principles.

There is good news for those wishing to enter the exciting world of theatre, film and TV, there are now more jobsin the entertainment profession than at any other time in history and this growth will continue as Bali SoDA is atthe gateway of this growth in Indonesia. We offer our students regular performing opportunities to showcase their talent. We promote talent by inviting prominent members of the press and entertainment industry to critiqueour growing pool of actors.

For those who do not want to be entertainers, but enjoy the performing arts as a vocational hobby, the benefitsare immense. Students perform better at school or university when they compliment it with an arts programme.Adults get a chance to play and meet new people and find joy and peace in their lives by exploring who they areand who they aspire to be. All this is explored through drama.

“It’s more right brain oriented....I see us being in the art business. Art, entertainment and mobile sculptures, which coincidentally, also happens to provide transportation” Robert Lutz Vice Chairman of Global Product Development and Acting Chief Executive Officer of General Motors to the New York Times when asked how his approach would differ from that of his predecessors to turn around the beleaguered GM..

Every year more young adults are leaving schools to enter universities or leaving universities to enter the work place armed with various certificates of accomplishment. How do employers choose the best candidate for the job when they all have the same qualifications? They look for what can’t be measured on paper.Confidence, self image, problem solvers and people skills.

At Bali SoDA we understand that market trends are already beginning to change from the Information Age to the Conceptual Age, where creative people will be at the forefront in new ways of working.

ESL English as a Second Language through Drama: Adult 18 + Real communication involves ideas, emotions and feelings. We also need to be able to communicate appropriately for any situation and adapt our language to whatever is happening around us. When we speak and listen to each other, we use visual signs and gestures like facial expressions too. Conventional English classes seldom give the learners the opportunity to use language in this far reaching manner and develop fluency in it. So, the main purpose of a language teaching, i.e., developing skills in communication, is unfortunately, neglected. With ESL through DRAMA at Bali SoDA, the learner has the opportunity to experience total communication. Drama is a very powerful medium for exploring language in all aspects especially storytelling and interpreting a character. Learning is fun and enjoyable. Playing a part or role-play teaches the student to communicate feelings, ideas and emotions clearly through verbal and visual language. Students learn to adapt their language by acting out situations or problems they may be facing in real life. This not only gives them fluency, but also the confidence to deal with real situations that require urgent solutions. Bali SoDA’s ESL through Drama course demands hard work and a willingness to participate but the rewards to those who want to learn effective and successful English communication.
