BALDESSARINI COMPANYPROFILE

BALDESSARINI IS AN INTERNATIONAL PREMIUM FASHION BRAND. IT IS A BRAND FOR MEN WHO SHARE A PASSION FOR CRAFTSMANSHIP AND QUALITY MATERIALS, WHICH ARE CENTRAL TO EVERY BALDESSARINI PRODUCT. OUR POLICY IS TO CREATE GARMENTS THAT BECOME TRUE COMPANIONS, NOT AIMED AT FAST-MOVING TRENDS.

“FOR ME, QUALITY IS PARAMOUNT! CASHMERE, EGYPTIAN COTTON AND THE FINEST LINEN. TEMPERAMENTALLY I CAN’T COPE WITH ANYTHING LESS!” WERNER BALDESSARINI ZU SPOT ON NEWS, 2013

BALDESSARINI is a dynamically developing contemporary men’s fashion brand which celebrates today’s masculine, authentic and self-confident man. The BALDESSARINI brand epitomises the highest possible quality standards. Founded in 1993 by lifestyle legend Werner BALDESSARINI, at that time Chairman of Hugo Boss AG, it quickly grew to become an internationally acclaimed label in the premium segment.

In 2006, the brand was taken over by Herford’s Ahlers AG. BALDESSARINI’s core competencies remain unchanged, however. A clean urban style with the focus on perfect fit, the best workmanship and timeless design. The pursuit of individuality, a passion for quality and deep love of detail are the pillars of the BALDESSARINI Collections.

Our aim is to create garments full of character which become trusty companions and outlast any short-lived trend. Uncompromising quality coupled with first-class workmanship are the core characteristics of the brand, resulting in distinctive style and ultimate comfort. To meet these high standards, BALDESSARINI garments are manufactured almost exclusively in collaboration with Ideabiella suppliers in Europe.

The BALDESSARINI brand range includes stylish modern pieces, sportswear and a wide selection of denim, as well as fragrances, sunglasses, hats, underwear and bed linen produced under licence.

As a global brand name, the Baldessarini collections are available at around 700 points of sale, including some 650 wholesale sites and own monobrand stores. BALDESSARINI is also distributed worldwide through Ahlers AG’s multi-label shop concept, the Elsbach Denim Library, and via our own online shop www.baldessarini.com. BALDESSARINI’s headquarters have been in Herford since the end of 2017.

THE BRAND

THROUGHOUT ITS ALMOST 100 YEAR HISTORY, AHLERS AG HAS DEVELOPED FROM A TEXTILE WHOLESALE BUSINESS INTO A MODERN GLOBAL COMPANY WITH A PASSION FOR HIGH-QUALITY MENSWEAR. FOUNDED IN 1919 BY ADOLF AHLERS IN JEVER, AHLERS AG HAS BECOME ONE OF THE LARGEST LISTED FASHION PRODUCTION COMPANIES, SPECIALISING IN MEN’S FASHION IN EUROPE, PROVING ITSELF CAPABLE OF REACTING SWIFTLY AND FLEXIBLY TO THE DEMANDS OF THE TIMES AND THE MARKETS.

The company headquarters have been at Herford-Elverdissen since 1932, and with Dr. Stella A. Ahlers at the helm, this family-run business is now in the hands of its third generation. Dynamism, far-sightedness and integrity are embedded in the firm’s DNA.

Currently its three premium labels Pierre Cardin, Baldessarini and Otto Kern account for around 65% of sales, and other significant brands include Pioneer Authentic Jeans, Pioneer Jeans &Casuals, and the jacket specialist Jupiter. With workwear manufacturer, Pionier Workwear, a long-established and integral part of its brand portfolio, Ahlers AG has interests beyond the purely fashion business.

Since 2014 a multi-label store concept has also existed with the Elsbach Denim Library, which brings all brands together under one roof. 12% of turnover is achieved through its own retail activities. The company operates its own production sites in Poland and Sri Lanka, and all Ahlers products are characterised by high-quality materials, careful workmanship and an unmistakable, individual style. Ahlers AG has been one of the major European players for many years, both in terms of distribution channels and also brands and products. Ahlers AG today employs more than 2,000 people worldwide, and currently manufactures around 8 million fashion garments a year at its various production sites.

TO KONDOBALDESSARINI SPRING/SUMMER2018

A CONCEPT FOR LIVING INSPIRES BALDESSARINI FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2018. TO KONDO, DEVISED BY BESTSELLING JAPANESE AUTHOR MARIE KONDO, IS ABOUT DECLUTTERING OUR LIVES, AND BUYING ONLY WHAT WE TRULY TREASURE.

THIS IS A CONCEPT FOUNDED ON THE SEARCH FOR SPIRITUAL CONTENTMENT RATHER THAN MATERIALISTIC ACCUMULATION. THE CLOTHES WE WEAR SHOULD BRING US JOY AND PLEASURE. WHAT WE CHOOSE TO OWN IS ALSO A STATEMENT ABOUT HOW WE CHOOSE TO LIVE.

In design terms, the challenge is to create a new dimension for menswear – designing clothes with soul that support and nurture our lifestyles and daily needs. For BALDESSARINI, that means an exceptional emphasis on elevated quality and workmanship.

The To Kondo collection celebrates the very special – qualities summed up with the season’s extensive use of Supima cotton and linen. For tailoring, light and soft business suits are the key message. Natural stretch and high-twist crepes deliver guaranteed comfort, perfect for the traveler. High-stretch ‘Movimento’ yarns are a highlight for trousers too. Jackets are full of summer lightness, with linen blends to the fore, alongside light bouclés and knitted moulinés and unconstructed jersey. Pima cotton is a favorite for shirts with an outstanding soft finish.

An athleisure influence runs through the season. BALDESSARINI introduces ‘happy detailing’ – playful design details that add an individualistic edge to the clothes, particularly sportswear with athleisure-inspired touches such as striped rib collars and cuffs in contrast colors.

It’s an exceptional season for denim, with authentic selvage denim from legendary Italian mill Candiani Denim. A highlight is soft left-hand denim with its characteristic reverse diagonal thread. Denim shades include new light grays, plus gray-blues with Japanese inspiration. New sustainable production processes are evolved, such as washing techniques that use significantly less water.

Basics are refined and elevated, such as new cotton-cashmere crewneck sweaters and garment-dyed piqué polo shirts with stripe details on collars. A favorite print for the season is a honeycomb pattern. Accessories include ties, pocket squares, scarves, bandanas in cotton, linen and silk.

TOKONDO

MOUNTAINS BALDESSARINI FALL/WINTER2018

MOUNTAINS EXERT A MAGNETIC ATTRACTION ON THE IMAGINATION. MORE OF US ARE DISCOVERING A DESIRE TO EXPLORE AND CLIMB THEM. THEY PROVIDE A REFUGE AND A RESPITE FROM THE FRENETIC MODERN WORLD. AND THEY REMIND US OF OUR INSIGNIFICANCE IN THE FACE OF NATURE.

THE CLOTHES THAT WE WEAR FOR MOUNTAIN ACTIVITIES ENABLE US TO INTERACT WITH THESE NATURAL WONDERS IN COMFORT AND WITH EASE. THEIR FUNCTIONAL ATTRIBUTES AND UNIQUE AESTHETICS INSPIRE AN EXCEPTIONAL MENSWEAR COLLECTION FOR FALL/WINTER 2018/19 FROM BALDESSARINI.

WE HAVE RESEARCHED TRADITIONAL OUTDOORS CLOTHING, TAPPING INTO RETRO STYLE, BLENDED WITH THE MOST SOPHISTICATED OF 21ST CENTURY HIGH-TECH FABRICS. THE RESULT IS MENSWEAR THAT COMBINES BOTH FUNCTION AND FASHION WITH FLAIR AND CREATIVE DYNAMISM.

References include cable cars and meteorological stations from the 1970s. We have also intensively researched traditional winter clothing (think heavy felted woolen fabrics and quilted jackets) and combined them with high-shine heavy nylons and technical tape and Velcro details, creating a new, modern look. The color black is at the center of the season’s palette, highlighted by brilliant orange, honey gold, green briar – and Pompeian red, typically used for details.

Styles are neat, precise and updated with modern finishes. Checks are essential in any form and scale, whether blurred or clean, newly interpreted tartans or big window checks. We introduce a new kind of deconstructed ‘geological’ camouflage, inspired by nature and rough terrains – imagine rugged landscapes, partly covered by snow. Fabrics and yarns are protective, perfect for global travelers. Polished surfaces contrast with tweeds and waxy coatings, while linear jacquards and optical structures meet blurred patterns.

Learning from archives is a theme that makes this season very special. Traditional fabrics with a rich, soft handfeel are updated for a new generation, responding to a modern longing for coziness and comfort. Outerwear is both functional and decorative, combining the technical and the sophisticated. Archive references are fused with modern yarns, finishes and constructions, evolving a new authentic sartorial code.

Formal style becomes increasingly relaxed, even casual. Tailoring is driven by youthful attitude, with tailored denim blurring the line between formal and informal. Pared-back detailing and simple styles are connected with statement fabrics, especially for coats.

Sustainability and transparency matter more than ever. The theme of Mountains reflects a commitment to conscious consumption. Slow-made projects, refined and thoughtful, highlight an emphasis on product that is special. We want to make menswear to be treasured. An example of our commitment is a small capsule of knitted jumpers, made in Germany, in a pure wool quality guaranteeing KBT – certified organic animal husbandry.
