Dear Carmen Arace Intermediate School Families, June 13, 2019 Happy summer! The purpose of Carmen Arace Intermediate School’s summer assignment is to encourage our students to practice and improve their literacy and numeracy skills. If children continue using their acquired skills during the summer, it helps prevent a serious loss of learning gained over the course of the school year. This year students entering grades five and six will complete a math assignment and participate in the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge (https://portal.ct.gov/SDE/CTRead/Connecticut-Reads. Let’s have Carmen Arace Intermediate School be recognized in the State as the school that has the highest percentage of our enrolled students read and the highest number of books read by our students. Students are to record their book titles on the attached reading log and complete an activity for a book of your choice. Simultaneously, students can record their titles on Prosser Library’s site to be included in their program. Assist your child in choosing books that are at an appropriate level and interest. Bloomfield librarians are there to assist you. How about choosing some titles from the 2020 Nutmeg Award nominees (https://www.nutmegaward.org)? Additionally, I challenge our students to read 10 or more books this summer, complete the required activity, and their math assignment. Students are to hand in their assignments no later than Friday, August 30, 2019 to receive credit. Students will be recognized for their efforts in September. We hope your family will support these opportunities to continue your child’s literacy and numeracy learning. Sincerely, Principal Sarah L. Williams
