TEACHING ACCREDITATION
NIE’s Undergraduate Programmes are the only bachelor’s degree programmes in Singapore accredited for teaching in primary and secondary schools. You will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts (Education) or Bachelor of Science (Education) degree in preparation for exceptional careers in education.
DUAL COMPETENCIES
The programme combines academic content specialisation with education and pedagogical knowledge. Undergraduates are required to undertake research projects in their content areas as well as in education. RESEARCHStudent teachers acquire an understanding of the purposes, processes and outcomes of educational and academic research, with a strong focus on methods of designing, collecting, analysing and interpreting data. Your course work includes two research projects to deepen your learning experiences. An educational research project will put you at the forefront of innovative teaching and learning, while an academic research project will challenge your understanding of your content specialisation.
ACADEMIC DISCOURSE SKILLSYou will learn effective language and communication skills required for teaching and for the academic writing of assignments and theses.
SERVICE LEARNINGAs NIE programmes emphasise values and character development, student teachers will develop a disposition for service to the community. The Group Endeavours in Service Learning (GESL) programme immerses you in service-learning projects to build empathy and social skills by understanding community needs. In addition, the Meranti Project provides you with the opportunity to explore character and citizenship education with an in-depth understanding of your role as an educator so as to make the content come alive for students in diverse classrooms.

SEMESTER EXCHANGE
Undergraduates can choose to undertake a semester at a partner university to gain multiple global perspectives. Such exchanges provide valuable experience when learning from different cultures and interacting with peers and faculty from diverse backgrounds, developing you into a knowledgeable and culturally sensitive global citizen. Undergraduates also have an extensive choice of over 350 premier exchange partner universities in over 40 countries for semester exchange.
INTERNATIONAL PRACTICUM
The local teaching assistantship stint can be replaced with a five-week overseas stint, called the International Practicum. Besides observing lessons conducted by the cooperating teachers in the local schools, you will get a chance to co-teach some lessons. The stint abroad will also broaden your knowledge of teaching and learning, adding a global dimension to your perspectives on education and the various education systems.
OVERSEAS SERVICE LEARNING
Undergraduates can reach out to communities in other countries through Youth Expedition Projects. These overseas experiences will expose you to a broad range of education settings where you are encouraged to hone your own teaching skills and understanding of education policies in a wider global context.

SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME(SALT)
The SALT programme provides you with the opportunity for personal development and international exposure. Participants get to explore different facets of leadership by learning to conceptualise, plan and execute community projects in the neighbouring ASEAN countries. and the neighbouring regions. You will work independently and in teams to create meaningful learning experiences and deeper connections with local communities.
RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE
With 24 halls of residence, undergraduates can look forward to a fulfilling residential experience, networking within the larger NTU family. Through living and working with your peers, you can immerse yourself in the full residential experience in your undergraduate journey.
A VIBRANT STUDENT LIFE

Eligibility andApplication
Applicants who have taken the Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Level Examination must have obtained all of the following: 1.1 (a) passes in at least two subjects at H2 level and two subjects at H1 level including a pass in General Paper (or Knowledge and Inquiry at H2 level) taken at one and the same sitting of the examination (b) where applicable, a minimum grade of C6 in at least five subjects including English as a First Language taken at the GCE O-Level Examination (c) a minimum ‘S’ grade in a Mother Tongue Language (Chinese/Malay/Tamil) taken at the H1 level or pass in Mother Tongue Language ‘B’ taken in the GCE A-Level Examination, or a minimum grade of D7 in a first language (Higher Chinese/Higher Malay/Higher Tamil) taken at the GCE A-Level Examination (d) a pass in Mathematics obtained either at the GCE O-Level Examination or at least at H1 level in the GCE A-Level Examination.
Applicants who have taken the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Examination must have obtained all of the following:(a) a good overall IB Diploma score;(b) a pass at least at grade 4 in English and Mathematics done at standard level(c) where applicable, a minimum grade of C6 in at least five subjects including English as a First Language taken at the GCE O-Level Examination
