During my further education in SJIS’s A Level programme, my favourite teacher was my physic teacher, Mr. See, who guided me millions of times whenever I faced problems. There was always a warm smile on his face that made people feel easy to approach him. I remember there was a time before my A level examination, my friends and I were facing many dicult questions and they were all eventually solved by Mr see, as he took some time o from his free time and taught us or even messaged us the solution while he was on a holiday. In my opinion, that is a good spirit of a teacher, an educator or a lecturer and I would claim that he is one of the best teachers I have ever met. He was very friendly and helpful when we faced problems and I could say that he had helped me from 0 interest for Physics to a 100. Once again, thank you Mr See!!

After a long but fun years studying in SJIS, I have successfully enrolled into my dream course, Chemical engineering. Right now, I am doing my rst year, rst semester of degree in chemical engineering in UCSI University. Of course, I am not used to the brand new envi-ronment, where I am studying, because of new people, new subject, and new everything! However, I could tell from my experience in SJIS, that everything will be alright, which I am grateful to all my previous teachers and friends who had taught, enlightened and strengthened me in SJIS, because they gave me condence and a strong foundation to face my university courses that could be extra dicult.

Alumni events are denitely big events that no one should miss. This is the time where all of your fellow friends and teachers nally meet up after a long separa-tion. I enjoyed spending time with them, joking around, and following up on how everyone was doing. As mentioned, I am really thankful to all the people I met in SJIS. We had studied together, argued together, grew together and most importantly, we had fun together. All these good and bad adventures are of the past, and I

hope all of you, and I meant all of you, all the best in the present and future.

It was the worst day of my academic life when I nally stepped out of SJIS; I realised that this fun and bizarre adventures of secondary school life had come to an end, and that there is another stage of wonder ahead of me to be explored. Whichever path that we may take when we are apart, SJIS stays in my heart.

Time ies, when you’re having fun. SJIS was undoubted-ly an eye-opening experience for me. I was a shy and quiet student, so adjusting into this environment here was pretty much a huge challenge. Presentations, discussions and min-style debates during classes; if you were me, you would’ve probably freaked out. However, I was really fortunate to have such funny and inspiring teachers and mentors here to support, encourage and guide me along the way as it is through these trivial things being done that has helped me to not only be better at expressing my thoughts, but also help develop the way I think. Learning through all these small activi-ties just made it more fun, interesting and exciting. Besides that, I’m also grateful for the great friends I was surrounded by here at SJIS as it made me feel that sense of belonging and fun. School wouldn’t have been all it was (aside from learning) if it weren’t for friends.

Even though the school was relatively small, it sure wasn’t small for nothing. Paying attention to even the smallest of details is quite important, and that’s exactly how I would describe this school. Where it lacked in size, it sure wasn’t short in terms of help. I really appre-ciated the fact that the teachers would be willing to spend time with me in solving problems I stumbled upon while studying, even if it meant skipping lunch or getting stuck in the evening jam. It made me feel relieved that the teachers here do care for their students and that you can always count on them (but don’t abuse this privilege). One teacher in particular though (don’t mean to partial be here), that I’ll always remember, is Mr Hamed (I know he’s being mentioned quite often so yeah). Even though he taught me Economics throughout

my years here at SJIS, I’ll always remember him for the ‘down to earth’ things that he taught us. Simple things like from the way we dress up, to the way we converse with people; it really goes to show that teachers are humans after all and that being humble in everything you do is what separates a good student from a wise student.

I’m currently pursuing my bachelors in computer science at the University of Monash Malaysia. I feel that with the ever rapid expansion of data and technologies nowadays, we need to better understand how we may use the technology we have to aid our handling of data for the betterment of our society, be it economically, environmentally or socially. What I nd most interesting about computer science is that we explore in detail, how systems, interfaces or algorithms are being designed, constructed and implemented to help tackle complex situations and problems. Aside from the big talk, I truly hope that my time in university would be as fond, fruitful and memorable as the one I had in SJIS.

Oh yeah, not forgetting about the alumni events too. Even though I’ve not been able to attend most of the events organised, I feel that it will be a good way to catch up with all our peers, seniors from previous batches, and also our previous teachers. What better way to relive the good old days, right? (I’m starting to feel guilty now)

Time does indeed y by fast when you’re having so much fun.

Chinese NewYear DinnerCelebrating cultural dierences is not something new in St. John’s International Secondary School. It has become an annual tradition and practice to host gatherings for parents, Alumni, teachers and sta members to develop better bonds. To mark the year of the Metal Rat, the Marketing Team hosted a Chinese New Year dinner on 6th February 2020. The main hall in our secondary school was captivatingly decorated in red, signifying the celebration. Apart from rejoicing on diverse dierences, the Chinese New Year dinner was organised to get all the Chinese parents together and multiply our acquaintances.

The evening started with the lively and energetic Lion Dance, capturing the audience with the beats. Next, our Executive Principal, Mr Suresh Dass, welcomed the crowd and a speech was given by Ng Cal-Ly, one of our successful Alumni of 2017. Chinese New Year dinner is never complete without the “Yee Sang” toss and prosperous wishes of ‘Lou Hei” (high toss). There were exchanges of well wishes amongst guests, and it was most denitely pleasant to the eyes and ears. The occasion was also graced by our eminent guests Y. M. Tunku Dato’ Ahmad Burhanuddin Bin Tunku Dato Seri Adnan, Tunku Elana Khyra, Ms. Angeline Lim Suan See and Tuan Megat Mizan Nicholas Denney, amongst others. The event continued with the mingling amongst sta, teachers, Alumni and the respected parents and ended with photography sessions full of beaming smiles.

St. John’s International Secondary School8th Awards Ceremony

While most of us would spend our Saturdays unwinding after an eventful week, St. John's International School dazzled the day with The 8th Awards Ceremony.

The event, held in St. John's Institution Hall, was graced by a signicant number of prominent guests - Puan Maznah Binti Abu Bakar, ANS; PMC, Director, State Education Department (KL), Mr. Ng Kim Huat, Country Directory, Malaysia and Brunei, CAIE, Mr. Michael Simon, President of The Malaysian Federation of Lasallian Alumni Associations (MFOLSA), Mr. Raja Mohan, Vice President of Napei, as well as Representatives of Mr Lang Cong, Managing Director of Vanke Malaysia.

We were also privileged to receive the goodwill of Y.M. Tunku Dato' Yaacob Khyra, Chairman of SJIS Board of Governors, Y.M. Tunku Dato Seri (Dr.) Iskandar, Y.M. Tunku Dato’ Ahmad Burhanuddin, Datin Seri Maneesah, Dato’ Hajah Satinah Syed

Saleh, Tuan Megat Mizan Nicholas Denney, Mr. Jayapal Ramasamy, Brother Andrew Loke Yew Wah (FSC) and Brother Ambrose Loke Yew Mun (FSC).

The ceremony started o with the singing of 'NegaraKu' and our school song, 'Faith and Fortitude', by the Upper Primary sunshines from St. John's International Primary School. That certainly xed the energy and enthusiasm in the hall.

In SJIS, we believe in recognising all achievements, from Academics to Sports and Clubs. This year however, there was something new in the radar - Vanke's 'The Greenest Club Award', which was swept proudly by The Interact Club. This award acknowledges a club's proactive initiatives in conserving and caring for the environment through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
