The applications of steel sheet in daily life are constantly expanding.

Coated steel products such as JFE’s galvanized steel sheets have

enjoyed particularly strong growth in fields where corrosion

resistance and cost reduction by process omission are important. Our

coated steel sheet offer superior economy in construction and

automotive applications, electric appliances, and electronic

equipment.

In addition to attractive appearance and excellent corrosion resistance,

JFE’s electrogalvanized products are available with an extensive

range of chemical treatments, responding to the increasingly

advanced and diverse needs of changing markets.

JFE Steel Corporation, who holds ISO 9001, QS-9000 and ISO 14001

certifications, is also a leader in environmental protection. As part of

our line of galvanized products, we recently developed the chromate-

free Eco Frontier Series, which has already earned an outstanding

reputation with users in and outside of Japan.

Smooth, attractive surface produced by electro-plating.Formability of coating is excellent, with same mechanical properties as base metal. Weldability is also good due to light coating.Paintability, anti-fingerprint property and lubricity can be added by post-treatment.

Zinc coated by hot dip galvanizing.Light coated products have good weldability and formability. Usable from general processing to deep drawing according to application.Heavy coated products have superior corrosion resistance. Wide application are possible by selecting spangle or a post treatment.

Coated layer consists of mainly zinc and 5% aluminum with small amount of mish metal (rare earth elements).Adhesion and ductility of coated layer is good, and it shows excellent formability.Used for painted sheets due to good paintability.

Alloyed coating containing zinc and about 55 % aluminum.Products have heat resistance and heat reflection property of aluminum in addition to corrosion resistance of zinc and aluminum.Surface is attractive white silver.

Zn-Fe alloy coated by hot dip galvanizing and annealing.Zn-Fe coating has superior paint adhesion and corrosion resistance.Weldability is superior to JFE GALVAZINC products.

Surface coated by zinc-nickel alloy.3 to 5 times corrosion resistance than that of pure zinc coating.Superior formability and weldability.

Applications

There is no mechanical properties change with coating and so superior formability of the base metal is attained.

Coated layer has hard surface and low friction coefficient and so it has good formability as that of base metal.

Same weldability as that of hot rolled and cold rolled base metal if spot and seam welding conditions are properly selected.

Melting point of the alloy coat is high, so welding is easy.

Finished surface after painting is good because of smooth surface. With phosphate treatment, paint adhesion is excellent without pre-treatment for painting.

Finished surface after painting is good because of smooth surface. It has less occurrence of paint swelling or peering and has good paint adhesion.

Oxidation of zinc is inhibited by chemical treatment or oiling, so it has good corrosion resistance. Even if base metal is exposed by scratches during working, red rust is delayed.

Products with properties of anti-fingerprint, lubricity, surface conductivity etc. are available.

Automobile (Door, fender, trunk lid, hood, gas tank, etc.).Electrical appliance (Washer, refrigerator, cleaner, air conditioner, audio and video apparatus, etc.).Electric facilities (OA apparatus, vender, lighting, oil fan heater, electric distributor panel, elevator panel, etc.). Steel furniture , utensils (Desk, chair, locker, cabinet, etc.).

It has moderate sacrificed corrosion resistance by coated layers and has stable corroded generatives and it has 3-5 times corrosion resistance com-pared with normal electrogalvanized products.

(*4) Example of paint adhesion by using melamine-alkyd type paint.

Paint: Dericon #700 by Dai-Nippon Paint Co. Coating thickness: 30 μm. Baking at 130 ºC × 30min.

After dipping into boiling water for 2hrs → cross-cut tape peering.

In case of the chemical treatment of JW, paint peering may occur by some paints. Pre-test before use is

recommended.

(*5) Example of paint adhesion by using powder paint:

Paint: Evaglad 4700 by Kansai Paint Co. Coating thickness: 60 μm. Baking: at 180 ºC × 20min.

After dipping into boiling water for 2hrs → cross cut peering.

(*6) Anti-fingerprint property: ΔE measurement before and after dipping into artificial sweat liquid.

In using electrogalvanized steel sheets, the following precautions should be taken in order to ensure optimum use:

When receiving products, check for moisture in the package. Dry immediately if wet.Use adequate care to prevent moisture in spaces between sheets, coiled strips, and work pieces.Storage areas should be as dry as possible. Storage in damp conditions and/or with broken packaging can result in discoloration or rusting.Repair broken packaging if long-term storage is required. Abrasion marks (black dents) may occur due to pressure if transportation or storage conditions are improper.

Steel sheet products have sharp edges. Handle carefully using gloves to avoid injury. Scratches and oil stain due to improper handling can result in paint defects.Lubricated products have a low friction coefficient and slide easily. Coils may collapse (telescope, etc.) due to repeated uncoiling and recoiling. Cut sheets in piles may slide due to impact. Use care in handling and work around storage areas.

Some types of lubricating oil erode zinc. Prior testing shall be recommended.

For high temperature brazing, nickel-brass brazing material is recommended.

Insufficient degreasing can cause paint defects.Degreasing by spraying or dipping in a neutral or low alkaline agent is recommended. Strong alkaline agents can damage the strip surface.Adequate rinsing after degreasing is recommended. If degreasing is inadequate, water repulsion can be observed on the strip after dipping in clean water. Use a degreasing method which maintains smooth and uniform water film.

Dirt or other foreign matter on the surface will cause paint defects. Degrease/clean adequately before painting.JFE coated steel products are chemically treated to improve paint adhesion. However, certain paints may have poor adhesion with certain zinc coatings. Prior testing is recommended. Undercoating with a wash primer will help ensure good results.
