Hampton Daze Goes Wine tastinG

On Sunday afternoon a group of friends and I headed to the North Fork via stretch limo to experience Long Island Wine Country. This was the first time I've been tasting at any of the North Fork wineries and it was such a great experience.

First stop was Palmer Vineyards in Aquebogue. Palmer has a quaint tasting room and a wonderful outside lawn area to enjoy your vino. We became quick fans of the 2009 Gewurztraminer and the 2009 Pinot Blanc.

Next on the list was Martha Clara Vineyards at the Entenmann's Family Farm in Riverhead. We enjoyed live

music, a bustling crowd, a quick bite, and a few delicious glasses of the Brut Rose.

Moving on we headed to Lieb Cellars in Mattituck, which has 50 acres of premium quality vines. We stopped in at the modern tasting room where we quickly fell in love with the spectacular 2009 Pinot Blanc.

Our last stop was to Sherwood House Vineyard in Jamesport. We were all impressed by the chic yet rustic decor as well as the 2007 Blanc de Blanc.

On Thursday Staples in Bridgehampton gave away 100 Keurig Coffee Makers to the first lucky guests to RSVP to their cocktail party catered by Robbins Wolfe. The event was held to kick off the 2012 season.

The Hamptons’ two most eligible bachelors were among the crowd that came out Sunday for the open house launching the new Sammy’s restaurant in Montauk.

The Concert for the Concerts held Sunday at Gurney’s to benefit summer music on the green featured performances by three bands, including Caroline Doctorow.

13) No, not the one with Jen and the dog. This is Kevin Macdonald’s documentary about the real Marley, the reggae music icon. It was made with the approval of his family, so it is a loving portrait indeed. Add a star if you are into the spleef, mon.

New In Theaters The Three Stooges (PG-13) We

hated these moronic idiots when we watched them as children, and we hate them anew after watching this

loser courtesy of Bobby and Peter Farrelly. Sean Hayes does his best as Larry, Chris Diamantopoulos dies in the Mo role and Will Sasso gets the most obnoxious Stooge, Curley, and makes him ever dumber than he used to be. What was Jane Lynch thinking when she agreed to take the Mother Superior role? And Jennifer Hudson – you can sing girl, you don’t need this kind of flop on your resume.

New On DVDThe Iron Lady Meryl Streep won

the Oscar for her spot-on portrayal of Margaret Thatcher, but the film is short on drama and kind of meanders in spots, almost to the point of boredom.

Now PlayingThe Cabin In The Woods (R ) *

You think you know the plot – five (attractive, of course) young people go to a remote cabin in the woods for some down time and horrible things happen. But the writers, Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, who also directs, have created a delicious plate of surprises for those whose tastes run bloody. Whedon, by the way, is a third generation screenwriter who created Buffy The Vampire Slayer and worked on the

Toy Story script. This movie is more than a horror film – it takes the genre, shakes it upside down and recreates it. Don’t miss this film.

Mirror Mirror (PG-13) A new take on Snow White, with Lily Collins in the title role and Julia Roberts as the evil queen. We prefer the traditional take on the fairy tale. Nathan Lane co-stars.

Add the heavy cream and seasoning and simmer on medium heat for about 30 minutes. Blend the mixture and fold in the flour.

For the next step, if you have a small deep fryer at home I suggest you use it. However, if you do not, you can carefully heat a small pot of canola oil over medium heat to fry the corn fritters.

Simply spoon the corn mixture into the hot oil and cook for two minutes each or until golden brown.

frustration building up, go for a walk or do some kick boxing and then re-evaluate the situation.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) The energy is all about the truth this week, so don’t be afraid to speak up and tell the truth, the whole truth. This is not the time to leave out bits of information. Even if you think they are irrelevant make sure you offer them up. You need to get across the ‘whole’ picture.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) You are the teacher and this week you may stand alone in that role. Feelings of disconnection or even isolation may come up this week, but just hold tight and be your teacher self. The energy will shift, so don’t give those feelings too much power. It’s not forever. It is just for now.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) Believe it or not, it is all good. Challenges this week seem to be aligned to work out in win/win. Trust your gut, because intuitively you may sense that it is all going to be okay even when outer circumstances are challenging. Trust your inner senses, it is win/win.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) The energy is big for you this week and it may be all over the place, so do your best to stay whole and in your integrity. Make the priority about bringing things together rather than isolating one little part of something and picking it apart. Wholeness, synthesis -- these are the ideas to ponder this week.

PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) Hold out for what you really want this week. Often you can be the most excellent compromiser on the planet, sometimes to your detriment and this week may be your chance to take a stand and get all that you truly want. Embrace the negotiation or the confrontation and stand up for yourself.

NOTE: If you were born at the end or beginning of a sign, read the sign before or after your birthday.

Ask someone the name of a famous attorney and you might well hear Darrow’s name, even though he died 74 years ago. That’s because he left an indelible mark on American law, and participated in two of the most famous trials of all time.

In 1924 he defended Nathan Leopold, 19 and Richard Loeb, 18 two brilliant college students who killed 14-year-old Bobby Franks and admitted doing so. Dubbed the “Trial of the Century,” Darrow argued “the boys” should be spared execution. His 12-hour summation became legendary.

The following year Darrow defended John T. Scopes in “The Monkey Trial” and went up against another famous attorney and orator, William Jennings Bryant. The case is now viewed as the definitive example of science versus religion, because Scopes was a teacher who taught the Evolution Theory, which contradicted what most religions taught. Darrow ended up winning the case on appeal.

During his career Darrow frequently represented the poor, minorities, and the underdog, often without collecting a fee. He was the epitome of an American Civil Liberties Union lawyer and one the country’s first agnostic public figures. His intelligence, and his quick wit, made him a popular public figure nonetheless. He was also an early and vocal opponent of the death penalty. He once said, “I never wanted to see anybody die, but there are a few obituary notices I have read with pleasure.”

ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) Resist the urge to speak without thinking this week. Use your communication skills to promote healing within any situation. You do want to offer up your opinion, but you want to speak in healing ways, rather than hurting someone unintentionally.

TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) You, like Aries above, have a tremendous amount of energy in the area of communication. Make sure you are speaking in a style that people can receive, rather than coming off as demanding things from those around you. Remember, it will be about style, not content, in your interactions with others.

GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) You have a power available on the psychic levels this week. This means you can influence people with the emotions behind whatever you say. Pay attention; even if you try to hide your emotions, other will be able to sense your intention. The best choice is to keep your intentions clean.

CANCER (June 22 - July 23) You have a good deal of energy available to you this week. Rather than have it turn in to anxiety, it will be best to use this energy up. Make a list, or go get your list and see how many things you can accomplish. Anxiety will be a sure sign that there are chores to do, or creative projects to finish. It’s your choice how you look at it.

LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) Interesting week as things seem to move forward and then stall, move forward and then stall again. This stalling or perhaps feelings of stagnation or frustration is part of a bigger plan. Trust that any delay will turn out to be in your favor and do your best to trust the energy.

VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) You may have to face your irrational fears this week and this can be a good thing, if you see them for what they are. Do not judge current circumstances by what happened in the past. You are not the same person and therefore outcomes will be different. Just because your fear gets loud doesn’t mean it is justified.

LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) When in doubt – go for a walk. There is a good deal of electrical energy around this week and the best way to burn it off will be doing something physical. So if you feel anxiety or
