The Queen a r r i v e d Tuesday , March 1 9 , a t L o s A n g e l e s I n t e r n a t i o n a l Airport from N e w Y o r k , and w i l l be i n v o l v e d i n s e v e r a l a c t i v i t i e s on campus u n t i l he r d e p a r t u r e Wed- nesday , March 27.
On Tuesday e v e n i n g , Mr. H e r b e r t W. Armst rong g r e e t e d t h e Queen upon h e r ar- r i v a l a t t h e a i rport . Queen S i r i k i t a r r i v e d w i t h an e n t o u r a g e of 46 s t a f f and a t t e n d a n t s for a one-week s t a y as a p e r s o n a l g u e s t o f M r . Armstrong and Ambassador F o u n d a t i o n .
P l a n n i n g and p r e p a r a t i o n f o r he r a r r i v a l have been underway for s e v e r a l w e e k s . Many social e v e n t s and a c t i v i t i e s w i l l s u r r o u n d t h e e x h i b i t i o n s of T h a i t reasures.

W a i t i n g t o g r e e t Her M a j e s t y were 93-year-old Herbert W. T h e focal p o i n t of Queen S i r i k i t ' s v i s i t is t h e open ing of t w o T h a i e x h i b i t i o n s - - " T r e a s u r e s o f t h e Kings o f S i a m " which i n c l u d e s some of t h e crown jewels, and t h e q u e e n ' s "Royal SUPPORT" col- l e c t i o n - - i n t h e H a l l of A d m i n i s t r a t i o n Lobby o n Ambassador College's campus. The SUPPORT F o u n d a t i o n was e s t a b l i s h e d i n 1976 by T h a i l a n d ' s King Bhumibol and Queen S i r i k i t t o p r e s e r v e a n c i e n t c r a f t s and encourage and a s s i s t T h a i c o t t a g e i n d u s t r i e s . Whi le t h e queen is h e r e there w i l l be a ser ies of p r i v a t e v i ewings f o l l o w i n g or p r e c e d i n g d i n n e r s and l u n c h e o n s .

T h e r e was a r o y a l welcome a w a i t i n g T h a i l a n d ' s Queen S i r i k i t when s h e a r r i v e d , q u i t e a b i t l a t e d u e t o t h e heavy peak-hour t r a f f i c , a t P a s a d e n a ' s Ambassador C o l l e g e o n Wednesday n i g h t .

T h e r e was Herbert W. Armst rong , t h e w h i t e - h a i r e d p a t r i a r c h of t h e Ambassador F o u n d a t i o n and t h e college, t o escort h e r i n t o A m b a s - s a d o r Aud i to r ium and l a t e r t h e mayor of Los A n g e l e s , Tom B r a d l e y , and Pasadena Mayor W i l l i a m J. Bogaard g r e e t e d h e r w i t h g i f t s . Mayor Bogaard gave h e r t h e key t o h i s c i t y and Mayor B r a d l e y handed h e r a r i b b o n - t i e d s i l v e r box which o n e of t h e q u e e n ' s ladies i n w a i t i n g p rompt ly carried off unopened.
The p a r t y for t h e queen was small ( a b o u t 130) and select. E a r l y Wednesday e v e n i n g w h i l e a w a i t i n g H e r M a j e s t y ' s a r r i v a l , t h e y t o u r e d t h e e x h i b i t i o n , t a s t e f u l l y a r r a n g e d by h e r s t a f f . On view were t r e a s u r e s of a n c i e n t g o l d , s i l v e r and gemstone and modern samples (woven s i l k s , reed weaving, etc.) of t h e w o r k t h e queen is s p o n s o r i n g i n T h a i v i l l a g e s t h r o u g h h e r SUPPORT F o u n d a t i o n .

O b v i o u s l y , some sacr i f ice is b e i n g made t o a c h i e v e t h e g o a l s of t h i s e d u c a t i o n program, b u t t h e long- te rm b e n e f i t s w i l l c l e a r l y be w e l l wor th t h e s h o r t p e r i o d o f s a c r i f i c e .

I n n e a r l y f i v e y e a r s , o v e r t h r e e - q u a r t e r s of a m i l l i o n ca l l s have been made i n t h e U n i t e d States a l o n e , r e s u l t i n g i n s u b s c r i p t i o n s go ing t o 195,000 w a i t i n g rooms. Our managers set t h e goal o f 30 ca l l s a week f o r e a c h of u s h e r e i n Denver. W e c a l l e d e v e r y c a t e g o r y from a c c o u n t a n t s to v e t e r i - n a r i a n s ; a u t o dealers to n u r s i n g homes. And d o n ' t f o r g e t b e a u t y s h o p s and o s t e o p a t h s ! I f t h e y had a w a i t i n g room area, w e wanted t o r e a c h them! T h e n o ' s seemed d i s c o u r a g - i n g , b u t y e t , w e a l l knew t h a t it was GOD, not us , o p e n i n g a n d c l o s i n g doors. T h e r e were e v e n humorous e x p e r i e n c e s , s u c h as a l a d y who v o l u n t e e r e d to c o n t r i b u t e a r t i c l e s , as s h e was a "writer." One wanted to know i f it was a " s q u i r r e l l y p o l i t i c a l magazine."
A s t h e w e e k s t u r n e d i n t o mon ths , and w e would r e c e i v e " R e s u l t s A n a l y s i s , " it was e n c o u r a g i n g t o see t h e numbers r i s i n g and t h e p e r c e n t a g e s i n c r e a s i n g . A s o f A p r i l , 1984, p h a s e I i n t h e Denver area was complete! F o r t y p e r c e n t had sa id y e s , wh ich was 2,778 w a i t i n g rooms o b t a i n e d . I t was w o n d e r f u l to be able to p a r t i c i - pate i n " t h e Gospel b e i n g preached."
B u t t h e n w e hea rd of phase II! T h i s meant R E c a l l i n g a l l those t h a t had sa id no i n phase I. T h i s w o u l d s u r e l y be more c h a l l e n g - i n g , s u r e l y more f r u s t r a t i n g i f people reinembered u s . B u t a job is a job, and o n c e a g a i n t h e week ly g o a l of " g e t t i n g y o u r PT c a l l s i n " began . A c t u a l l y , t h i s was more e x c i t i n g t h a n p h a s e I . God was r e a l l y o p e n i n g doors and p e r c e n t a g e s were h i g h . I t was q u i t e t h r i l l i n g to s i t back and be a n i n s t r u m e n t as God had more and more p e o p l e r e s p o n s i b l e for w a i t i n g rooms s a y ' 'yes. 'I As unbe- l i e v a b l e as it may s o u n d , a n o t h e r 1 , 3 9 1 w a i t i n g rooms were o b t a i n e d , w h i c h was 46%. P h a s e I1 was complete as of October, 1984.
I would s t r o n g l y e n c o u r a g e anyone who h a s t h e o p p o r t u n i t y t o be a p a r t of t h i s program. I t takes t i m e and e f f o r t , and "blood, sweat and tears ," so to speak; b u t t h e character it b u i l d s w i l l l a s t f o r e v e r . S a t a n , of c o u r s e , w i l l t r y to stop and d i s c o u r a g e you a t e v e r y t u r n . B u t as o u r local m i n i s t e r h a s t o l d u s : " D i s - c i p l i n e y o u r s e l f to d o t h i n g s you d o n ' t p a r t i c u l a r l y care to do." And s e e i n g " G o d do a w o r k " is s i m p l y a n i n c r e d i b l e e x p e r i e n c e .
T h e y ' r e h a v i n g a l u n c h e o n for t h e l ad ies t h a t worked on t h e pro- gram. My husband teased m e t h a t " t h e y ' l l t e l l you p h a s e I11 is b e g i n n i n g when you g e t there!" B u t I know p h a s e I11 has a l r e a d y begun. I t ' s p r a y i n g t h a t God w i l l lead people i n t o those w a i t i n g rooms to read those P T s ! And p h a s e I V . . . ? Well, t h a t w i l l be when some of those readers a re called! How r e w a r d i n g t h i s pro- gram h a s been . Thank you t o a l l o f those who made i t p o s s i b l e .

0 777,000 pieces of mail were r e c e i v e d , a lso a record. T h i s c o u n t was unexpec ted , c o n s i d e r i n g t h e combining o f t h e February/March PLAIN TRUTH.
A r e c o r d 14.4 m i l l i o n p u b l i c a t i o n s were s e n t o u t , i n c l u d i n g 1 0 m i l l i o n PLAIN TRUTHS, 1.8 m i l l i o n l e t t e r s , 820,000 GOOD NEWS magaz ines , 650,000 b o o k l e t s and o v e r a m i l l i o n o t h e r items.

Modern t e c h n o l o g y has once a g a i n p r o v i d e d a n i m p o r t a n t i n n o v a t i o n f o r our Te lephone Response (WATS) area. W e have a c q u i r e d a special t e r m i n a l which c o n t r o l s o u r phone number i n t h e c e n t r a l phone company located i n S t . L o u i s , M i s s o u r i . T h i s d e v i c e allows u s to i n s t a n t l y d i r e c t incoming ca l l s e i t h e r t o P a s a d e n a or B i g Sandy. Heretofore a l l s u c h t e c h n i c a l c h a n g e s i n r o u t i n g had t o be done by t h e phone company employees , and r e q u i r e d a three- week n o t i c e . T h i s new equipment now allows u s to d o t h e r o u t i n g o u r s e l v e s w i t h i n s e c o n d s h e r e i n Pasadena . Canada is a p a r t n e r w i t h t h e U . S . i n NORAD, t h e N o r t h American Aerospace Defense Command. I n fac t , a Canadian is t r a d i t i o n a l l y t h e d e p u t y commander, even though C a n a d a ' s c o n t r i b u t i o n t o t h e o p e r a t i o n is a mere 9-10 p e r c e n t of t h e total . For example, dur - i n g t h e 1985-2000 period, NORAD w i l l ' h a v e a t o t a l of 22 f i g h t e r - i n t e r c e p t o r squadrons . Two w i l l b e Canad ian , made up of some o f t h e 138 F-18 f i g h t e r s Canada is buying from t h e U n i t e d States . . . . T h e 10-1 U . S . - to-Canadian c o n t r i b u t i o n i s t y p i c a l of t h e b i l a t - e r a l r e l a t i o n s h i p i n most areas . Despite i ts s i z e , Canada has o n l y a b o u t 24 m i l l i o n p e o p l e , r o u g h l y t h e p o p u l a t i o n of C a l i f o r - n i a . I t lacks t h e economies o f scale to d o much more t h a n i t does i n d e f e n s e . . . . Most ly for economic r e a s o n s , B r i a n Mulroney wants t h e f r i e n d l i e s t p o s s i b l e r e l a t i o n s h i p w i t h Washington , and one way h e ' s t r y i n g t o a c h i e v e t h a t g o a l is by e n d o r s i n g , almost w i t h o u t c r i t i c a l e v a l - u a t i o n , Reagan ' s d e f e n s e p l a n s . T h i s is n o t so much a n i n v a d i n g Canad ian m a n i f e s t d e s t i n y as i t is a bus inessman ' s d e s t i n y of m a n i f e s t s . Canada is a l a r g e market, b u t t h e U n i t e d S ta tes is a n enormous market.
