Our cross stage teaching rounds will be taking place every week and I know all teachers are excited and looking forward to continuing the professional discussions every week. Our focus is on becoming curriculum experts in mathematics, including incorporating working mathematically outcomes to allow children to develop a variety of strategies to assist their learning. Teachers are also using the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers to assist in gathering evidence to support the teaching of a quality program. The professional conversations had by staff is confirmation that we are certainly addressing the needs of students and staff. I was so pleased to be part of the launch of our Positive Behaviour for Learning assembly today. Our core values and expectations are very clear and transparent and we expect our students to be safe, respectful learners. You will be hearing that language used by staff and students on a regular basis. Thank you to Mrs Ferguson and Ms Adams who are leading PBL at Boambee. We will be sharing information with you on a regular basis. We hosted the leaders from the Bongil Bongil schools on Wednesday to continue the discussion on how our schools can continue to work together to enhance the learning and partnerships of all our schools. There will be several combined initiatives this year, leading to a sustained, ongoing partnership. We are thrilled to be part of such a proactive team and the discussions had by the students this week was proof that the student leaders in all our schools have a passion for developing their leadership skills as well as ensuring opportunities are provided for their peers to enhance their skills and learning opportunities are maximised. Working Mathematically This year at Boambee PS one of the areas in Maths that we will be focussing on is working mathematically. All teachers across all stages have been participating in professional development to ensure that the best teaching strategies and resources are being used to improve student outcomes in the area of working mathematically.

Working mathematically is about

developing students’ understanding and fluency in mathematics through inquiry, exploring and connecting mathematical

concepts, choosing and applying problem-solving skills and mathematical

techniques, communication and reasoning.

As an essential part of the learning process, Working Mathematically provides students with the opportunity to engage in genuine mathematical activity and develop the skills to become flexible and creative users of mathematics. Our aim is to:

● Develop in children a positive attitude and appreciation of mathematics as part of everyday life, that is useful, relevant and enjoyable.

● Recognise and cater for children's individual needs and build upon previous experiences.

● Provide opportunities to develop skills, concepts and strategies necessary to function effectively in mathematical situations.

Visiting Performance - “Puss in Boots” On Wednesday students at Boambee School were treated to the travelling stage show ‘Puss In Boots: Pet Detective’, performed by 3 actors from the Australian Playhouse. These 3 actors assumed many roles in the play, delighting the children with their acting talents and interaction with the audience throughout the show. The storyline of the show was about Bear-boy-band singing sensation ‘Baby Bear’ being kidnapped! When a ransom note is discovered asking for an unlimited supply of ‘Just Right Porridge’ all hands and paws point straight at Goldilocks. Facing a life sentence of uncomfortable beds, chairs and cold porridge she turns to the only cool-cat capable of cracking the case, the mysterious super-sleuth in boots known to all as the ‘Pet Detective’. Goldilocks discovers that sometimes when everything seems too hard, all you need is a friendly feline and a whole lot of perseverance to make it all just purrrrrrrrrfect.
