Suppliers’ ShowcaseThe Suppliers’ Showcase is a great way to reach potential customers and make them aware of your products and/or services at a very reasonable price. The cost for exhibit space is only $800 (for early registration) and includes an approximately 10 foot wide space, one table, and two chairs. This amount includes full meeting registration for one person, member or non-member. The Suppliers’ Showcase is normally held in conjunction with coffee breaks for a more inviting and relaxing interaction with potential sales contacts. We intentionally limit the number of spaces to maximize your opportunities to meet the people who need your products. To register, please use the appropriate box on the Annual Meeting registration form.

2011 AWPA Hacker’s ClassicThe Jacaranda Golf Club West Course in Fort Lauderdale, Florida has been chosen to host the AWPA 2011 Hackers Classic Golf Tournament on Sunday, May 15, 2011. We selected Jacaranda because of its new Tif-Dwarf luxurious putting surfaces, tightly manicured collection areas, plush emerald green fairways and bunkering designed to entice the risk-reward golfer. The Club recently invested $10 million in creating a “living works of landscape art” theme while retaining a championship caliber. The course is a home for the Nationwide Qualifying Tour for professional golfers, yet is exceptionally kind to lady golfers. The Hackers Classic Tournament will follow a scramble format, and prizes abound. Don’t forget to check off the golf option on your Registration form.

Banquet TicketsThis year’s Annual Banquet will feature fine South Florida cuisine, installation of AWPA Officers and Executive Committee members, golf tournament prizes, 5K fun run awards, world-class entertainment, but most importantly, a time to enjoy some time with friends and colleagues. Banquet tables that seat 10 people are $850 each. To purchase tables, organizations must contact AWPA on or before April 15. Remember, tables are assigned by AWPA based on the date your payment is received, and the best tables go first. If you haven’t been invited to the banquet by an organization, individual tickets are available for $85 each. However, you might consider waiting until you arrive in Fort Lauderdale, then put your name and number of seats needed on a “Banquet Tickets Needed” list at the AWPA desk. Most of the time, organizations will have extra tickets and will select individuals from that list to dine with them. If you do wish to purchase individual tickets, you may purchase them in advance from AWPA if you want guaranteed seating, or on-site, since AWPA always holds a group of seats for purchase by individual attendees.

Dates to Remember:Standardization proposals are due April 3

Early registration discounts end April 8Banquet tables must be purchased by April 15

Hotel reservations cut-off date is April 22Pre-Registration ends on April 29

Task Group and Subcommittee MeetingsTask Group Meetings are currently scheduled for Sunday, May 15, and will be posted to the website as time slots are requested. Usually, if more than five hours of total Task Group time is requested, we will split the meetings into two separate, concurrent tracks in order to minimize the number of meetings on Sunday morning during the golf and 5K events. Subcommittee Meetings will take place on Wednesday, May 18, and will be posted to the website as agendas are received from Subcommittee Chairs. The only Subcommittees required to meet are those with proposals for standardization, which must be submitted to AWPA by the deadline of April 3, 2011. Other Subcommittees are permitted to meet if so requested by the Subcommittee Chair, but scheduling priority is given to those Subcommittees with pending proposals.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Things to See and Do in Fort LauderdaleWe’re not sure why you’d want to do anything other than attend the technical presentations at the Annual Meeting, but just in case you do, the hotel is situated directly on the beach and has a wonderful spa and pool area. Just a short walk, cab ride, or water taxi trip are many local attractions such as museums, shopping, excellent restaurants, and many outdoor activities. Other interesting things to see and do are well within an easy driving distance. For a complete look at all that Fort Lauderdale has to offer, visit the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitor’s Bureau website: www.sunny.org

Ballots and Officer ElectionsIn late February, ballots were mailed to each AWPA member for the general election of AWPA Officers, Executive Committee members, and Nominating Committee members for 2011-2012. If you are an AWPA member in good standing and have not yet received a ballot, please let us know and we will send another one to you. Remember, ballots must be received on or before Friday, April 29, 2011 to be counted. Only those members who are dues-current for 2011 are eligible to vote.

Pickler’s PranceThe 2011 Pickler’s Prance 5K Fun Run/Walk, sponsored by Rio Tinto Minerals, will take participants on a tour of Fort Lauderdale’s beachfront walk and Millionaire’s Row along the Intracoastal Waterway. This event will begin the morning of Sunday, May 15. While there is no charge to participate, you must register to indicate your agreement with the waiver and provide your shirt size. You may register online or by marking the appropriate box on the printed form.

Spouse/Guest Program HighlightsMonday morning begins with a short trip to an undisclosed location for an “Iron Chef” style competition. The group will be divided up into teams to see whose cuisine reigns supreme, and who will be named AWPA’s Iron Chefs. You’ll eat what you cook, so be sure to bring your culinary “A game”. On Tuesday, participants will take a Land’n’Sea tour of Fort Lauderdale’s many mansions on “Millionaire’s Row”, ultra-chic Las Olas Boulevard, and other area attractions. We’ve left plenty of time in the schedule for you to do what you want. Whether that’s shopping, relaxing on the beach, visiting one of the area’s many museums, indulging in a spa treatment, or doing a bit of sightseeing, it’s totally up to you! Remember, dress code for this meeting is resort casual. See you in Florida!
