A Message from Mrs. Mize… Dear Parents, It’s time for an AUCTION! Next weekend is the Avon Education Foundation’s Comedy Night. If you’ve never been to an AEF event, you are missing out. It’s a night of FUN and it’s all for a great cause: KIDS! But I also realize that weekends are busy, so we are offering our families a way to participate. Pine Tree has two really cool items up for auction and these auction items will be up for auction next week only. A bid box is in the office. Since this is a silent auction, you complete the bid form (contained in this newsletter and also sent home with your child today) and place it in the bid box. The highest bidder will win. What makes this exciting is that bids are secret – so you don’t know what the actual highest bid is when you place your bid! Our first item is an AFTER SCHOOL FRIDAY NIGHT BATTLE. The winning student, along with nine friends, will stay after school on Friday, May 16th to battle some teachers in athletic events. It will be an incredibly good time for both staff and students. Certainly a fun way to wrap up the school year! Our second item is a BARBEQUE for the winning student, a special guest, and their entire class! Our Central Office Administrators will be serving this lunch. Again, what a fun end-of-year event! I hope that you consider bidding on an item. All schools have donated items, so if you have students in other Avon schools, please check out their items by visiting below.

ATTENTION 3rd and 4th Grade Parents!

Our second round of ISTEP will be during the week of April 28th. All 3

rd and 4

th graders will be

taking the Multiple Choice portion of the ISTEP. Our 3rd graders are scheduled to test Monday and Tuesday. Our 4

th graders will test Wednesday,

Thursday and Friday. Please avoid scheduling appointments that would require your child to miss school during the ISTEP testing window. Make sure your child is well rested and has a good breakfast during this week. As always, encourage your child to do his or her personal best!

Five Good Reasons to Visit the Library with your Kids Today 1) Regular library visits inevitably lead to more reading. -Reading, as it turns out, is brain food! 2) When you visit the library, you can expose your children to more books and magazines than may be in your budget. -At the library, you can haul out as much as you can carry- and it’s free! 3) Your local children’s librarian can recommend books that you may not know of or think to suggest, broadening their

tastes and expanding their minds and vocabularies. 4) Library time is active, not passive -Many libraries offer regular children’s programs to make stories come to life. 5) Owning a library card teaches kids responsibility. -As card-carrying library patrons, young kids learn about treating with care things that belong to others. 2014-15 Calendar Survey

After a very unusual winter, we are seeking input from students, staff, and parents about possible minor revisions to the already approved, already published 2014-15 school calendar (click here to view: http://bit.ly/1mVZ8cK). The existing 2014-15 calendar allows for two snow make-up days: Monday, January 19, 2015 (Martin Luther King Day) Monday, February 16, 2015 (Presidents' Day) If more than two make-up days are needed, they would be added to the end of the year. (This year we had five make-up days. One was waived, two made up on the above holidays, and two will be made up on June 2nd and 3rd.) Upon review of the results, the administration and Board may consider changes to the 2014-15 calendar.

Avon Education Foundation Presents a Special Evening

Seedlings Preschool Registration Now Open

The Avon Seedlings Preschool registration for the 2014-2015 school year is open. The program will be housed at White Oak Elementary and is open to children or grandchildren of ACSC employees as well as preschool students living in the Avon School district. Avon Education Foundation Now Accepting Resumes for the Executive Director Position

The Avon Education Foundation has announced that it is accepting resumes for the Executive Director position. Fol-

lowing is brief information regarding the position.

Job Summary:

The role of the Executive Director is to operate in a high profile capacity to promote and enhance the mission and key

relationships associated with the Avon Education Foundation. The Executive Director shall be the chief executive of-

ficer of the Foundation and shall possess and exercise general executive and supervisory authority over the Founda-

tion’s affairs and its officers and employees and shall attend all meetings of the Board of Directors. The Executive Di-

rector shall perform all duties incident to the office and such other duties as may be prescribed by the Board of Direc-

tors.
