SCHOOL LONDON TEACHER TRAINING COURSE Course Timetable Input Sessions (9:00 - 10:15) Day 1 - Introduction: commonly held beliefs about teaching, teaching models (PPP, ESA), approaches to coursebooks Day 2 - Phonemes: understanding and implementing the phonemic chart Day 3 - Lexis and Boardwork: categories of lexis (collocation, phrasal verbs, discourse markers etc.), teaching ideas, principles of good boardwork Day 4 - Error Correction: developmental and transfer errors, interlanguage, error correction techniques Day 5 - Second Language Acquisition: how linguistic theory can be applied to the classroom Day 6 - Grammar: inductive and deductive teaching, modern approaches to grammar Day 7 - Aspects of Phonology: review of phonemes plus connected speech, assimilation, elision Day 8 - Lesson Planning: revising teaching models, stages of a lesson, structuring learning Day 9 - Lexical Chunks: the lexical approach, where lexis meets grammar Day 10 - Summary: brief history of TEFL, self-reflection and evaluation Practice Activities / Class Observation (10:30 - 12:20) monitored group activity based on input session topic and class observation Observation Seminar (12:30 - 13:30) feedback and seminar on observations and practice activities Where are we? Training takes place at Avalon School of English in the heart of London’s famous West End; the school is a few minutes walk from Tottenham Court Road underground station, right next to the shops, bars, restaurants and museums of Soho, Covent Garden and Holborn. Oxford Street and the British Museum are just around the corner.

Where are we?

Training takes place at Avalon School of English in the heart of London’s famous West End; the school is a few minutes walk from Tottenham Court Road underground station, right next to the shops, bars, restaurants and museums of Soho, Covent Garden and Holborn. Accommodation

Teachers on the training course can be accommodated at the Bethnal Green Student Residence in Zone 2, 5 minutes walk from Bethnal Green underground station and 25 minutes journey time from Avalon School.Each studio apartment has 2 twin rooms sharing a bathroom and kitchen with oven and hob. There is a common room with TV and an internet room; Wi-Fi and bed linen are provided free of charge.

Please note that course fees must be paid in full at least 15 days before the course starting date. Accommodation fees must be paid in full 60 days before the course starting date; in order to reserve rooms in the student residence we require a 10% deposit payable by 30th April 2015.
