Goldfinches Visit to Roman Chester
Another school trip this week to enhance the children’s learning with the Goldfinches having a
fascinating day out in Roman Chester. The weather stayed fine for the march around the city
with a legionary and there were a few battles in the amphitheatre.
National Teaching Assistant Day
It was great to be able to mark National Teaching Assistant day this week and celebrate the
great work our teaching assistants do. Thank you for all the lovely comments that were left on
twitter. If you’re not yet using twitter and following us – why not? @StOswaldsCE

Leaving School Procedures
I hope all the parents of children in the Goldfinches and Hummingbirds received the letter this
week about the changes to the procedures for dismissing children at the end of the day. The
changes were brought about by a number of incidents over the past few months and were
needed to ensure the safety of all the children going home. If you still need to return permission
slips please do so as soon as possible. Thank you for your support.
Parking
I have met with some of our local residents this week and again need
to request ALL parents to park with as much consideration for our
local community as possible. In particular Gypsy Lane is an area to
consider. There are many elderly residents in these houses and at times
recently access has been challenging for the residents. This would be
especially a problem if an emergency vehicle needed access. Please can I
ask for everyone to ensure they park safely and considerately. I
appreciate that it is not always easy during busy times around school.
Thank you for you help.
Meet The Teacher
We hope you found the Meet The Teacher presentations earlier this week informative. The
format and timings for this have been the same for a few years now and for next year we will be
reviewing the organisation of this to make it easier and more convenient for parents to attend.
Mad Science
The Key stage 2 children had a cracking Mad Science assembly this week. You should have
received a letter about the after school club for Years 3 – 6. If not please contact the school
office.
Drum Lessons
We have some space for drum lessons on a Monday afternoon if any of the children are
interested. Realistically they need to be at least Year 2. Our drum teacher is Damien Williams, an
outstanding drummer and teacher. You can see him drumming on his website here
www.damienwilliams.co.uk Lessons are £12 for half an hour – you don’t need a drum kit! Contact
the school office if interested.
