Welcome:
Presider: Let us worship God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
Presider: Almighty God,
People: to you all hearts are open,
all desires known,
and from you no secrets are hidden.
Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name,
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Glory to God: To God Be the Glory
Tune: (Idem)
To God be the glory, who great things has done!
God so loved the world freely sending the Son,
Who yielded his life an atonement for sin,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.
Refrain:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,
And give God the glory, who great things has done!

Prayer of the Day: Presider: Let us pray.
Silence is kept
Almighty God,
you sent your Holy Spirit
to be the life and light of your Church.
Open our hearts to the riches of your grace,
that we may bring forth the fruit of the Spirit
in love, joy, and peace;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
THE PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD OF GOD We read and respond to God’s message in
Scripture
First Reading: Genesis 37:1-4, 12-28
Jacob settled in the land where his father had lived as an alien, the
land of Canaan. This is the story of the family of Jacob. Joseph,
being seventeen years old, was shepherding the flock with his
brothers; he was a helper to the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his
father's wives; and Joseph brought a bad report of them to their
father. Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his
children, because he was the son of his old age; and he had made
him a long robe with sleeves. But when his brothers saw that their
father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him, and
could not speak peaceably to him. Now his brothers went to
pasture their father's flock near Shechem. And Israel said to
Joseph, "Are not your brothers pasturing the flock at Shechem?
4
Come, I will send you to them." He answered, "Here I am." So he
said to him, "Go now, see if it is well with your brothers and with
the flock; and bring word back to me." So he sent him from the
valley of Hebron. He came to Shechem, and a man found him
wandering in the fields; the man asked him, "What are you
seeking?" "I am seeking my brothers," he said; "tell me, please,
where they are pasturing the flock." The man said, "They have
gone away, for I heard them say, 'Let us go to Dothan.'" So Joseph
went after his brothers, and found them at Dothan. They saw him
from a distance, and before he came near to them, they conspired
to kill him. They said to one another, "Here comes this dreamer.
Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits; then
we shall say that a wild animal has devoured him, and we shall
see what will become of his dreams." But when Reuben heard it,
he delivered him out of their hands, saying, "Let us not take his
life." Reuben said to them, "Shed no blood; throw him into this pit
here in the wilderness, but lay no hand on him" - that he might
rescue him out of their hand and restore him to his father. So
when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe,
the long robe with sleeves that he wore; and they took him and
threw him into a pit. The pit was empty; there was no water in it.
Then they sat down to eat; and looking up they saw a caravan of
Ishmaelites coming from Gilead, with their camels carrying gum,
balm, and resin, on their way to carry it down to Egypt. Then
Judah said to his brothers, "What profit is it if we kill our brother
and conceal his blood? Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites,
and not lay our hands on him, for he is our brother, our own
flesh." And his brothers agreed. When some Midianite traders
passed by, they drew Joseph up, lifting him out of the pit, and
sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they
took Joseph to Egypt.
Reader: The word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.

Psalm 105:1-6, 16-22, 45b
Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his name; make known his
deeds among the peoples.
Sing to him, sing praises to him, and speak of all his marvellous
works.
Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord
rejoice.
Search for the Lord and his strength; continually seek his face.
Remember the marvels he has done, his wonders and the
judgements of his mouth,
O offspring of Abraham his servant, O children of Jacob his
chosen.
Then he called for a famine in the land and destroyed the supply
of bread.
He sent a man before them, Joseph, who was sold as a slave.
They bruised his feet in fetters; his neck they put in an iron collar.
Until his prediction came to pass, the word of the Lord tested
him.
The king sent and released him; the ruler of the peoples set him
free.
He set him as master over his household, as a ruler over all his
possessions,
6
To instruct his princes according to his will and to teach his elders
wisdom.
Praise the Lord!
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
Hymn 533: Jesus, Lover of My Soul
Tune: Aberystwyth
Jesus, lover of my soul,
Let me to thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll,
While the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Saviour, hide,
Till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide;
O receive my soul at last!
Other refuge have I none;
Hangs my helpless soul on thee.
Leave, ah! leave me not alone;
Still support and comfort me.
All my trust on thee is stayed,
All my help from thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head
With the shadow of thy wing.
Thou, O Christ, art all I want,
More than all in Thee I find!
Raise the fallen, cheer the faint,
Heal the sick, and lead the blind.
7
Just and holy is thy name;
I am all unrighteousness:
False and full of sin I am;
Thou art full of truth and grace.
Plenteous grace with thee is found,
Grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound;
Make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art;
Freely let me take of thee;
Spring thou up within my heart;
Rise to all eternity.
~The Reverend Charles Wesley (1701-1788)
The Gospel: Matthew 14:22-33
Gospeller: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Gospeller: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ,
according to Matthew.
People: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ!
Gospeller: Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat
and go on ahead to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds.
And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain
by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but
by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the
land, for the wind was against them. And early in the morning he
came walking toward them on the sea. But when the disciples saw
8
him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, "It is a ghost!"
And they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them
and said, "Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid." Peter answered
him, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the
water." He said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat, started
walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he
noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to
sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" Jesus immediately reached out
his hand and caught him, saying to him, "You of little faith, why
did you doubt?" When they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
And those in the boat worshipped him, saying, "Truly you are the
Son of God."
Gospeller: The Gospel of Christ. People: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ!
Sermon: Natania Friesen
The Apostles Creed:
Presider: I invite those who would like to make a profession of
Christian faith to join with me in the Apostles’ Creed.
People: I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
9
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Presider: Having reaffirmed our faith, let us prepare to offer our
prayers to God.
Prayers of the People: For the Church, those in authority, the world, our community,
the sick and those in need, for the departed,
and for the forgiveness of our sins.
Confession and Absolution:
Presider: While we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit,
God promises to heal and forgive us.
Let us confess our sin in the presence of God.
cf Romans 5:8
10
Presider: God our Father,
People: long-suffering, full of grace and truth,
you create us from nothing and give us life.
You give your faithful people new life
in the water of baptism.
You do not turn your face from us,
nor cast us aside.
We confess that we have sinned
against you and our neighbour.
We have wounded your love
and marred your image in us.
Restore us for the sake of your Son,
and bring us to heavenly joy,
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Presider: Almighty God have mercy upon you,
pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and keep you in eternal life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
People: Amen.
The Peace: Having prayed for God’s grace and peace for us and the world,
we offer an exchange of peace with one another.
As you are comfortable, you may use the live chat to say, “Peace be with you”
to those participating online.
Presider: The peace of the Lord be always with you.
People: And also with you.

Hymn 310: Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above
Tune: Mit Freuden Zart
Sing praise to God who reigns above,
The God of all creation,
The God of power, the God of love,
The God of our salvation.
With healing balm my soul is filled
And every faithless murmur stilled:
To God all praise and glory.
The Lord is never far away,
But through all grief distressing,
An ever present help and stay,
Our peace and joy and blessing.
As with a mother's tender hand,
God gently leads the chosen band:
To God all praise and glory.
Thus, all my gladsome way along,
I sing aloud your praises,
That all may hear the grateful song
My voice unwearied raises.
Be joyful in the Lord, my heart,
Both soul and body bear your part:
To God all praise and glory.
Let all who name Christ's holy name
Give God all praise and glory;
Let all who own his power proclaim
Aloud the wondrous story!
Cast each false idol from its throne,
For Christ is Lord, and Christ alone:
12
To God all praise and glory.

generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ
Jesus, forever and ever. Amen.
