Freedom is pleased to announce Deborah Pawlowicz, as the winner in Freedom’s 2017 Golden Apple-Plus Annual Educator Award competition. Ms. Pawlowicz won the top $1,000 prize for her idea to interact with technology and use it as a means to improve the reading skills of her

students. The annual award is for a Freedom member who is a deserving teacher, school administrator or school support employee. This award allows Ms.

Pawlowicz to purchase the needed subscriptions for

every fifth grader in Churchville Elementary.

There were two Runner-Up awards with each recipient earning a $250 award; Kim Mayforth, from John Archer School, and Sandra Waltemire from North Harford Middle School.

Freedom’s participating in the “Tools for Schools” collection drive to benefit the Harford County Education Foundation (HCEF), formerly GEEF. It is estimated that 11,000 students in Harford County do not have the basic supplies to get them through the school year. HCEF collects, warehouses and distributes school supplies to the schools and students who need them.

Donation boxes will be set out at all Freedom branches.

Freedom staff and board members donated their

weekend to give back. Their work benefited Habitat for Humanity’s Aberdeen ReStore. We helped in the

ReStore warehouse and storefront.

Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to help people become home owners at low cost. This happens thanks to Habitat’s volunteers and donations. Learn more about Habitat Susquehanna’s work in Harford County. The Aberdeen ReStore‘s location and hours are online.

Hope in Handbags Collection

Thank you to the members and employees who

participated in the Hope in Handbags donation drive. The sale/silent auction event benefits the Harford Family House. Proceeds help provide homeless families with

children in Harford County build a better life.

The Hope in Handbags event begins with a preview event on Friday, September 8 (6:00-8:30 PM) and culminates with the main event on Saturday, September 9 (10:00 AM-3:00 PM) at Bel Air’s Reckord Armory.

Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation

Appoints Michael MacPherson

It does this by developing relationships with those who support the expansion and improvement of health care services in Harford County.

“We are pleased to have Mike MacPherson join our foundation board,” said Lyle E. Sheldon, FACHE, President and CEO of University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health. “His leadership experience and

community involvement will be of great help to us as we strive to provide patients with the highest quality care, in state-of-the-art facilities, using integrated technologies and the most skilled and esteemed physicians and health care providers.”

Mike has served as President and CEO of Freedom

since 2016. He has been with the credit union for 13 years. During that time he also served as interim

President and CEO and Chief Operating Officer. Mike is a member of the Credit Union Executive Society and Harford County Chamber of Commerce. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Towson University. Mike graduated from Harford Leadership Academy in 2000.

The Orioles announced plans to celebrate the 25th

Anniversary of Oriole Park with a series of events

scheduled August 18 and 19. Weekend festivities will begin with a 25th Anniversary luncheon hosted by the

Oriole advocates. The luncheon will celebrate the

ballpark’s history and honor returning members of the 1992 team.

Prior to Friday’s game, all fans will receive an Oriole Park 25th Anniversary poster. Following the game, all fans can enjoy a spectacular fireworks display, which will feature popular music from 1992.

The celebration continues into Saturday, August 19, when select players from the original 1992 team will take part in a charity Home Run Derby contest at Oriole Park prior to the game. All fans entering the ballpark will receive a 25th Anniversary Oriole Park at Camden Yards replica ballpark. This is a weekend you won’t want to miss!
