FAMILY FORMATION: All families with children in grades K-6 are included in this exciting new program for our parish. You will be getting further informa-tion on this...but for now, mark you calendars for the first meeting. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 BE-GINNING AT 6:15 PM AND CONCLUDING AT 7:30 PM. We have had a fantastic response to our need for
catechists. We will be recruiting HS kids to assist catechists
in the classroom...so there will be ample help. We will be recruiting Jr-Hi and HS kids to help
with babysitting. We will be looking for prayer warriors to do a
Holy Hour during the First Wednesday FF ses-sions praying for the intentions and needs of all our families.
We have a team that will be taking care of hospi-tality and snacks each night. The plan is for the parents to come with the kids once a month. The kids go to the classroom and the parents come to the gym. At the end of the evening the kids come to the gym for a closing prayer service and a snack before going home.
MASS SCHEDULE CHANGE: Beginning August 16, the Wednesday mass will be at 5:30 pm. Prior to this mass on a regular basis, the Liturgy of the Hours, Eve-ning Prayer, will be prayed. I encourage everyone who comes to this mass to participate. We will begin by running off a handout of Evening Prayer. The Ro-sary would not be prayed prior to mass but can be prayed such that it is finished by 5:15 pm. Liturgy of the Hours Evening Prayer is the official prayer of the Catholic Church and consists of singing a hymn, recit-ing or chanting three psalms, praying the Magnificat, several intercessions and ending with the Our Father. I would like to join in on this prayer for this hour if I can wrap up confessions at 5:15 pm.
COMMUNION: (continued from last week) In other Catholic Churches of the Easter Rite communion is offered in a way that allows the faithful to receive the Eucharist under both forms of the Bread and Wine. The Eastern tradition likens yeast in bread to the soul in the body. The soul gives life, and therefore the "living bread" of the Eucharist must have yeast. The West uses unleavened bread because that is what Jesus used in the Last Supper. The Eastern Catholic leavened bread is cut into cubes and put in
the precious blood. Then the priest will use a spoon to re-trieve a cube of Precious Body soaked in the Precious Blood from the chalice and place it in the mouth of the recipient. The recipient would arch their head back and open his/her mouth to receive the Eucharist. A similar method has been on the books for our Roman Catholic Rite and still remains an option. It is called Intinction. (to be continued) FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION: August 15...a Holy Day of Obli-gation. Masses: Mon., Aug. 14, 7:00 pm (no morning mass on this day); Tues., Aug. 15, 8:05 am and 6:00 pm.
ARE YOU PLANNING ON WORKING WITH KIDS IN THE NAME OF THE PARISH OR SCHOOLS THIS YEAR? YOUR SAFE ENVI-RONMENT CERTIFICATION MUST BE UP TO DATE. I will be enforcing this—you cannot work with kids if you do not have this in place and there is no grace period. If you have never been certified then you have to attend one of these classes. To register go to: www.archomaha.org and click on “Safe Environment Training. Here is an option that is close by: Sunday, September 17, 2017 5:00 p.m. St. Mary Church, in
Wayne. There are others in Omaha. We have a couple people going
from the parish—call the office to car pool.
MANY THANKS: Thanks to all those who helped with the Server Party. The pool got closed down, the much needed (not enough) rain we got, the rescheduling and reformating of the event made it crazy. But thanks to Jerry and Jolene Fischer for coming and making the ice cream for the kids and to the KC’s who helped with the grilling and clean-up. God Bless you all. Booster Club Kick-Off is August 18: I encourage you to be-come an official member and pay your dues. The Booster Club is being asked to help with the budget at Cedar this year and your attendance and membership will enable them to make their goal. It begins at 7:00 pm and the speaker they have lined up should be an inspiring message.
Truck Raffle: For the 11th year in a row, a generous sup-porter of Cedar has donated a Ford Truck to be raffled off. The proceeds help to pay the loan payments on our Remodel-ing Loan. It does not cover the cost completely; the Develop-ment Office has to work to raise a little bit more to make the payment. So the Goal of Selling over 1300 is very important for us to achieve. So, get your tickets now. We will be draw-ing for this on the Homecoming FB game which is early this year: Sept. 8.
Fly-In Breakfast: Sunday, August 20th, 7:00 am-12:30 pm… this is the main fundraiser the Holy Trinity Grade School does each year. Thank you for participating.
Once in a Life-time Trip to the Holy Land: I am organizing trip to the Holy Land through the Holy Land Franciscans Pil-grimage Office. We leave on Oct. 30 and return on Nov. 9. Go to: www.holylandpilgrimages.org and check out the Is-rael/Jordan trip on these dates. Check it out and let me know you are thinking about it....Fr. Korte
