Summary of Warnings
Please read all parts of this guide. When set-up is complete, do not discard guide. Please fi le guide in secure place for future reference.
Never attempt to service the battery. If there is a problem, send battery only to ALTUS for evaluation.
Never attempt to open battery. The electronic circuits inside the battery can be damaged causing malfunction and/or potential hazard to person and property.
Never attempt to replace the cells in the battery - it cannot be rebuilt or refurbished. Athe the end of its usefullife contact the ALTUS Customer Service at [email protected] or (888) 537.1311.
Do not expose this battery to extreme high (above 50°C/120°F) or low (-20° C) temperatures. This includesstorage in direct sunlight, in cars in hot or cold weather, or in close proximity to heating/cooling devices. This may cause electrolyte leakage, impaired performance and shortening of battery service life.
When not using the battery for prolonged periods, the battery should be fully charged.
ALL LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES have a fi nite life. If the battery exhibits noticeably shortened run-time the battery should be replaced immediately. Shortened run-time is indicative of at least one cell which has reached end of life.UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should one attempt to “recondition” this battery by repeated charging and discharging.
This battery contains specialized electronic circuits, which are designed to protect the Lithium-Ion cells from overcharge, overdischarge and overcurrent. Redundant protection devices are designed to operate if the battery voltage is abnormally high orlow and if the temperature of the battery exceeds operating specifi cations. These electronic devices can be damaged if thebattery is subject to abuse or damage. Do not use a battery that has been subjected to excessive mechanical shock or water damage.
Do not drop, puncture or crush this battery. Do not use the battery if the case is damaged or broken. Do not open or attempt to service this battery if damaged.
It is recommended that you return the Battery Interface to a qualifi ed dealer for any service or repair, incorrect assembly may result in electric shock or fi re
To reduce risk of electric shock, unplug the DC input (battery) before attempting any maintenance or cleaning
To reduce risk of damage to electric plug and cord, pull by plug rather than cord when disconnecting anything from the unit
An extension cord should not be used unless absolutely necessary. If an extension cord is used, make sure that is has a 3-prong, male plug (NEMA1-15P and 3-Prong),female receptacle (NEMA1-15R). The size of the current carrying conductors should be such that they are able to carry at least 2.5A for the length of the extension.
Place the unit in an area that will allow air to fl ow freely around the unit. DO NOT block or obstruct vent openings or install the unit in an enclosed compartment.

STORAGEKeep batteries cool or at room temperatures whenever possible. Sustained elevated temperatures are the primary reason for premature failure of batteries:
Charge batteries at room temperature. In warm climate keep chargers in air conditioned rooms for best performance.
Although Lithium-Ion has good self-discharge characteristics, batteries should be stored for long termstorage in a fully charged condition.
Batteries should always be stored in a fully charged state and kept cool. If batteries must be stored for a long period (over 30 days), the battery electronics will enter a “deep sleep” mode. The battery will “wake up” whenplaced on a charger. It is always a good idea to submit the battery to a discharge/charge cyclerom time to time during storage.
BATTERY MOUNTING/REMOVALBattery should be mounted and removed from bracket as depictedin the diagram:
MAINTENANCEWeekly, or as needed:• Clean the device, associated components, and accessories asneeded with a damp, non-saturated cloth or paper towel. Do notwet the exposed metal part of the battery charge terminals. Do notuse solvents or scouring agents. Examples of approved solvents areCidex® and Windex®.
• Periodic cleaning of the battery terminals will ensure continuedreliable operation. Clean the terminals occasionally with a pencileraser or lightly scrape the surface with a blunt instrument to helpreduce the likely hood of buildup causing poor communicationor charging.

Power System Overview
Battery Pain Scale Fuel Gauge
The Battery Pain Scale fuel gauge employs the pain assessment scale, a method recognized and utilized bycaregivers today. The bright LCD is visible from up to 30 feet (9.144 meters) away and can be mounted anywhere on the device via its magnetic backing. This prevents theuser from having to constantly look at the bat-tery and attempt to decipher the typical LCD indicator lights found on similar products. The pain scale indicatesbattery health percentage remaining. When the battery reaches the 10-0 percent is it recommended to change the battery for a completely charged battery.
Battery Pain Scale Fuel Gauge Defi nitions
Indicates that the main battery is not attached or fully depleted and the unit is being powered by the backup battery. The main battery needs to be replaced witha fully charged battery. The Backup battery willshut down after (approximately) 2 minutes of operation.
Indicates that the interface is currently being powered.
Indicates that the interface is reading the battery and deter-mining its current capacity.

Shutdown Procedure
If the Power System were to require shut down, simply disconnect the Battery and AC power(if either/both are attached). The backup battery will continue to power the system for approximatelytwo minutes. After which time, the system will shut down all power. This will be visible by theBattery Pain Scale fuel gauge display shutting off. Unplugging the external AC/DC supply fromthe supply mains will isolate the device from supply mains.
System Specifi cations
Input Power SourcesUnit was designed to operate from Altus batteries, with an optional DC input from AC/DC power supply.
• Power Supply Input Voltage = 100-240VAC, 50-60Hz, 2A
• Power Supply Output Voltage to system = 18VDC,8.3A
• Use only ALTUS approved AC/DC power supply, Elpac model: MWA150018A-12A
• When the optional AC/DC power supply is used, it is specifi ed as part of the ME Equipment.
