audition advice

1
If the person hearing your audition was eating during your audition the most likely reason is that THEY HAD TO BE because they were overscheduled without a break. These things happen. Just because there is a break in the schedule does not mean that it will be an actual break for them. They needed to eat in order to concentrate on your audition and the audition of the next person. People have eaten, hardly looked up or even talked with other panel members during my auditions! Sometimes a panel member is saying to another "hey this is the wonderful singer that X worked with in Y". There is the famous story about the director that kept an actor sitting for several hours while calling everyone else into the room. Finally the actor exploded in anger, but what the director was doing was delaying the call back audition until the producer arrived to hear him too because he was sure he was right and wanted to hire him straight away. This is the nature of open auditions; you may or may not get a favorable time slot and may or may not get someone's full attention. This is the reality of the business you choose to be trying to enter. Eventually, if you have the goods, you will get lucky and get a good audition slot and be what the company needs to hire. You have to go in knowing what the game is, the game is that you are there to show you are capable of doing the job and pleasant to work with. Walking out if someone is eating shows you would not be a good colleague have no understanding of what it is like for the audition panel and a lack of human compassion for people with low blood sugar who are working long hours! Your audition time is NOT about you, it is about the company finding something IT needs! Until a performer at an audition, or a person at a job interview or anyone selling anything understands what they are doing, that is filling a need or convincing that what they are selling would benefit the person who is buying, you will not succeed.
