Reflection of Education

I have really enjoyed taking classes through Argosy University. I feel that I have learned so much in

the field of Psychology. The definition of Psychology is the study of the mind and behavior. There are

many theories that one may use to explain the way the mind works and why people behave the way

they do. Many factors can influence the way a person behaves. Biological and social factors play big

role in shaping one's personality and behavior. Before taking these classes I wondered what made

people act the way they do and now I realize that many things can influence one's behavior.

As a counselor and/or a psychologist one must follow a particular set of guidelines. These guidelines

are ethical codes that are set into place by organizations to ensure that there is no harm to clients.

Ethics are a very important part of psychology. Informed consent and confidentiality are just two of the

many codes that are important to ensure the client is not put in any harm and trust is maintained during

the professional relationship.

I have taken classes on mental disorders , substance abuse, sexuality, child development, interpersonal

effectiveness, interviewing, as well as many others. I think that all of the courses that I have taken and

the information that I will be taking with me will be very important in my future career, regardless of

the path I choose to take from here.

Strengths and Weaknesses

I think that my strength would be in substance abuse. This is the topic I feel that I have really done

well in through my studies. I think my personal life is greatly responsible for this. I have been around

alcohol and drug use all of my life. I have seen what this can do an individual as well as the family

first hand. Some may think that only the individual using is effected but I know differently. Everyone

in the family is affected in some way.

I think that my weakness would be in human sexuality. This is something that I have never really spoke

openly about. I was brought up to believe that sexuality is something that should be private. Because

of this I do not think I will become a marriage or sex counselor.

Reflection of becoming a Life Long Learner

I plan to go back to school and obtain my Master's in Forensic Psychology. After that I will continue to

take classes to ensure I stay aware of any changes, and to also be sure the information is fresh on my

mind. I think that we learn the most through our own experiences as well as by watching others. I think

that this is how I will become a life long learner.
