ATMOsphere America 2015 – Media Briefing ATMOsphere America is moving south to Atlanta, Georgia for its fourth edit ion! The conference will take place on 25 & 26 June 2015 at the Grand Hyatt Atlanta in Buckhead. Purpose: ATMOsphere America 2015 serves as THE meeting place for key HVAC&R stakeholders from around the world to discuss the latest natural refrigerant market trends, regulations and technology developments in North America. Gathering key industry players, the conference aims to support and foster the market uptake of natural refr igerant-based technologies, by sharing real experiences and knowledge and presenting successful case studies in a wide range of applications, including commercial, light commercial and industrial refrigeration, heat pumps and more. ATMOsphere America seeks to show that these technologies are both an environmentally and economically viable solution for the HVAC&R industry in North America. With an excellent line up of speakers featuring leading end users such as McDonald’s Corporation, The Coca-Cola Company, Red Bull , Starbucks, Whole Foods, Delhaize America, Lowe’s Markets, Port Newark Refrigerated Warehouse, etc., key component & system suppliers including Hil lphoenix, Emerson, Bitzer, Heatcraft Worldwide Refrigeration, Carnot Refrigeration, Hussmann, Mayekawa, and more, as well as government representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, California Air Resources Board and Underwriters Laboratories, ATMOsphere America 2015 creates discussions and networking opportunities that help disseminate information about natural refrigerant technologies and spur the market uptake of these energy saving and long run cost efficient solutions. Context and topicality: The North American market presents a huge opportunity for natural refr igerant technologies with an increased market uptake and a more environmentally fr iendly regulatory context. In commercial refrigeration, the use of CO2 is becoming more and more popular, with a significant increase in installations of both CO2 cascade and transcritical systems across the U.S. and Canada. Also, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently listed CO2 as acceptable for use in new equipment in refrigerated transport without use conditions. In February of this year, the EPA issued a final rule on the June 2014 proposal to list four hydrocarbon refrigerants (R290, R600a, R170 and R441A) as acceptable substitutes, subject to use conditions, in six end uses, including household refrigerators and freezers, stand-alone retail food refrigeration equipment, very low temperature refrigeration, non-mechanical heat transfer, vending machines and room air conditioning units. With this promising scenario, HCs and other natural refrigerants are gaining popularity in North America. Special interest has also emerged for innovative technologies involving low charge ammonia or improved NH3/CO2 refrigeration systems for industrial applications. In addition to providing updates on national legislation in North America, the ATMOsphere America 2015 will also cover regulatory developments at the local level, such as init iatives in California to reduce HFCs by 80% by 2030, as well as globally, providing an overview of policy trends in Europe, Japan and China. Serving as a forum where HVAC&R industry experts and key stakeholders can meet, ATMOsphere America 2015 – The Business Case for Natural Refrigerants provides informative presentations and networking opportunities that help promote energy efficient and environmentally friendly technologies in North America.
