"Stand up and go;

Your faith

has saved you."

As we gather to celebrate the Eucharist,

let us not forget that the word

“eucharist” means “thanksgiving.”

The Greek word eukharistia is used

to describe what Jesus did before

sharing his body and blood

at the Last Supper.

Today, as always, we give thanks

to God for all the blessings we have

received and continue to receive,

especially for Jesus Christ, God’s only

Son, whom we receive in a special way

today in the Eucharist.

SAINT AGNES PARISH

St. Agnes Parish's Book of Remembrance: Dedicated to the Holy Souls

This weekend the Book of Remembrance has been placed at the front of the church, in preparation for the

month of November, the month dedicated to the faithful departed. This time-honored tradition has been part

of St. Agnes since 1986.

Every October, all are welcome to enter into the Book of Remembrance the names of loved ones who have

passed away during the current year. Throughout the month of November, we pray for all those in this year's

Book of Remembrance, as well as all previous years' Books.

As we remember all those special people who have been a part of our lives, let us also reflect upon the words

of St. Teresa of Calcutta:

"November begins with two beautiful days, the Feasts of All Saints and All Souls. Holy Mother Church

remembers all of her children, to whom she has given the life of Jesus through Baptism … We all know that

during this whole month we give them extra love and care, by praying to them and for them."

~ St. Teresa of Calcutta

Dear Parishioners,

With September behind us the activity of our parishes is in full swing and

it's great to see all the smiling faces of our young people returning to

Religious Education. There are wonderful things happening in the

Reading Catholic Community and there is more to come. With the

beginning of the Collaborative we enter a three year period of prayer,

study and discernment as we work with the Archdiocesan Disciples of Mission Team in writing an

evangelization plan for the future. In the last few weeks I have attended a number of training sessions, along

with some parishioners, learning about this process.

Most of you are familiar with the Matthew Kelly books from Dynamic Catholic that our parishes have been

giving out the last few years! This year our Collaborative is one of 40 parishes across the country that has been

chosen to participate in the Dynamic Parish Program: a program developed by Dynamic Catholic to help

parishes become all that God wants them to be. We have a team made up of members from both parishes

that is going to help us in this journey; it will be an exciting experience for us all! During the next few months

we will be invited to start this journey and to dream about what our parishes could be. I hope everyone will

enthusiastically participate in the Dynamic Parish program.

On a personal note many of you have asked me, with concern, about my limping about. With the help of God

and a skilled surgeon’s hands I will be as good as new by Monday afternoon. If I get all my pre-op work done I

will have a partial hip replacement on Monday morning at NE Baptist Hospital. Even though my surgeon has

an Army background he convinced me that it was time to fix it. Please keep me in your prayers for a successful

operation and a speedy recovery.

You are always in my prayers. God bless.

This Weekend is Our Commitment Weekend

This weekend marks the culmination of Saint Agnes’ Inspiring Hope campaign! Over the past several

months, Father Rock and a small team of parish volunteers have invited the support of Saint Agnes

parishioners through individual visits, receptions, and through the mail. Today is an opportunity for all

members of the parish to make a decision about how they can support the parish and this effort.

Our Campaign Progress

To date, our parish has raised $850,575 toward our $900,000 goal from our parishioners! With the support

of the entire parish, we could potentially exceed our target. We have an opportunity to build up our

resources to provide a stronger parish for years to come.

We are blessed with such a strong community of which we can all be proud. Thank you to all those who have

already participated in this effort, and thank you all for listening and learning about how we will be

strengthened by this campaign.

How Saint Agnes Needs Your Help

It is our hope that every parishioner will be able to make a decision today to support this effort which will

have a profound impact on our church for years to come. The support of every parish household is

appreciated and will help propel us well beyond our $900,000 goal.

We ask that each family consider making a pledge that would be over and above your regular weekly

offertory. Parishioners can make their pledges over a five-year period and in a variety of ways.

Regular pledge reminders will be sent out based on how often you would like to make your pledge –

monthly, quarterly, annually, etc. Parishioners can fulfill their pledges by check, credit card, electronic funds

transfer, or through planned gifts like life insurance, IRA distributions, and through your estate.

This campaign has already been such a success and blessing for our parish, we want everyone to be a part of

our achievement!

While our hope is to receive everyone’s campaign decision at Mass this weekend, there will be a brief follow

-up exercise next week for those who need more time or are away this holiday weekend. If you have any

questions about the campaign or making a pledge, please contact the parish office at (781) 944-0490.
