e ASUC Green Certication Program Student Sustainability Consulting TGIF Grant Project 2010-2013 DESCRIPTION GOALS TEAM PARTNERS CONTACT US e ASUC Green Certication Program was started in the fall of 2010 by Elliot Goldstein and Vanessa Fernandez. e program was funded in the spring of 2011 after the rst pilot program was completed. is is the rst year that the program has accepted student group applications for certication. e main goal of the ASUC Green Certication Program is to increase sustainable and environmentally conscious practices within the student body via student groups. It is our goal to eventually make it mandatory for all groups to become Green Certied. Over the last two years we have built strong alliances with the Sustainability Oce, GoTeam, STEAM, and our community sponsor, the ASUC Bookstore. Each group has been vital to our program. Email: [email protected] Facebook: GOALS & METRICS How the Program WORKS Progress In the two years, including our pilot program, the ASUC Green Certication Program has audited thirteen groups and has and certied ten student groups. Below you will nd statistics derived from the “Green Points” initially earned (current practice), the midterm report (the completion of parts of their goals in addition to their current practices), and the nal report (the sum of points they earned). ese “Green Points” are found in our Green Checklist and Purchasing Guide, which lead our student groups towards more sustainable practices on campus. Our interns, directors, and partners develop this guide constantly, listening to feed back from our student groups and outside sources. Below are statistics derived from the pilot and rst year programs. An email announcing application dates and an attached application form are sent out to student groups via the ASUC listserv. Applications received are reviewed and the selected groups are emailed an invitation into the program. Auditors are also paired with already certied groups from the the previous auditing cycle. Phase One Selected groups attend the initial meeting with an assigned Green Certication Auditor. e lecture includes explanations on the program structure, funding model and an initial assessment (goals, etc.). Groups attend weekly meetings for the rst month to ensure proper acclamation to the program's structure. ey then set up monthly meetings with their GreenCATs. Phase Two A midterm assessment of each group's progress is turned in during February. At this point, each auditor will give a brief presentation on his/her group and discuss any successes or hardships experienced by the groups. Auditors then develop a new game plan to help each group become a Certied Green Group. Phase ree In the nal auditing meeting, GreenCATs give their nal presentation on the newly certied (voted on) or denied groups. We then discuss reasons for their certication and reasons that some groups were not certied. An email is then sent to certied groups, announcing their certication. GreenCATs then shift their attention to re-certifying previously certied groups. e process is completed within a month.
