Scope

1.1 This specification covers cold-rolledcarbon structural steel sheet, in cut lengths orcoils. It includes five strength levels designltted as Grade A with yield point 25 000 psi(170 Mra) minimul,ll; Grade. B with 30 000psi (210 MPa) minimum; Grade C with33 000 psi (230 MPa)'mirthnum; Grade ])with 40 000 psi (280 MPa) minimum; andGrade E .with 80 000 'psi (550' Pa) minI-.,,wum.

1.2 Grades A, B, C, and Dhave moderateductility whereas 9rl;ldeE isa full-hard product with no specified minimum elongation.NOTE I-The values stated in inch-pound unitsare to be regarded as the standard.

    7. Mechanical Requirements7.1 Tension Tes s:7.1.1 Requirements-The material as represented by- the test specimens shall conform

to the mechanical requirements prescribed inTable 2.7 1 2 Number of Tests-Two tension testsshall be made from each heat or from each lotof 50 tons 45 Mg). When the amount offinished material from a heat or lot is lessthan 50 tons, only one tension test shall bemade. When material rolled from one heatdiffers 0.050 in. 1.27 mm) or more in thickness, one tension test shall be made from boththe thickest and thinnest material rolled regardless of the weight represented.7 1 3 Test Specimen Orientation-Testspecimens shall be taken longitudinally.

7.2 Bend Test:7.2.1 Requirements-The bend test specimens shall stand being bent at room temperature in any direction through 180 deg withoutcracking on the outside of the bent portion toan inside diameter which shall have a relationto the thickness of the specimen as prescribedin Table 3.7 2 2 Number of Tests -Two bend testsshall be made from each heat or from each lotof 50 tons 45 Mg). When the amount offinished material from a heat or lot is lessthan 50 tons, only one bend test shall bemade. When material rolled from one heat

A 6differs 0.050 in. 1.27 mm) or more in thickness, one bend test shall be made from boththe thickest and thinnest material rolled regardless of the weight represented.7 2 3 Retests-If one test fails, two moretests shall be run from the same lot, in whichcase both tests shall conform to the requirements prescribed in this specification; otherwise the lot under test shall stand rejected.8. Finish and Condition

8.1 Surface Finish-Unless otherwise specified the sheet shall have a matte dull) finish.8.2 Oiling-The sheet shall be furnishedoiled or dry, as specified.9. Certification and Reports

9.1 When requested, the manufacturershall furnish copies of a test report showingthe results of the ladle or cast analysis andmechanical property tests made to determinecompliance with this specification. The reportshall include the purchase order number;ASTM designation number; and heat or lotnumber- correlating the test results with thematerial represented.10. Packaging

10.1 Coil Size-Small coils result from thecutting of full-size coils for center test purposes. These small coils are acceptable underthis specification.
