Amsterdam port region posts record 1.7 pc transshipment increase in 2014

The seaports in the North Sea Canal Area, which includes the ports of Amsterdam, IJmuiden, Beverwijk and Zaanstad, realized record transshipment of more than 97.4 million tonnes in 2014, according to the provisional figures. This represents an increase of 1.7 per cent compared to 2013 when transshipment stood at more than 95.8 million tonnes. Total transshipment in the port of Amsterdam amounted to 79.7 million tonnes in 2014. This is an increase of 1.4 per cent compared to 2013 (78.5 million tonnes) and also sets a new record, highlighted an official

release.

The provisional transshipment figures for the other North Sea Canal ports are as follows: Transhipment in IJmuiden rose by 3 per cent to 17.3 million tonnes in 2014. Transhipment in Beverwijk decreased by 9 per cent to approximately 0.2 million tonnes,

while it rose in Zaanstad by 17 per cent to approximately 0.2 million tonnes.

Nitin Gadkari inaugurates online approval web portal for movement of heavy cargo by modular hydraulic trailers

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, in association with Hydraulic Trailer Owners Association (HTOA), recently announced the launch of a web portal for online approval of movement of over-dimensional and overweight cargo by modular hydraulics. The chief guest of the event, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Shipping, inaugurated the portal. The occasion was also graced by the guest of honor, Mr. Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for New and Renewable Energy, Power and Coal, and Mr. Vijay Chhibber,

Secretary - Road Transport and Highways.

The launch was followed by a full day seminar on "Heavy Transport in India: Entering a New Era through Digitalization" which

included sessions such as Modular Hydraulic Trailer - A must to achieve ‘Make in India’, and on global transports technologies.

The Adani Group has announced that it will be investing Rs 20,000 crore over 5 years in its port facilities in Gujarat, for enhancing capacity by another 100 million tonnes per annum by

2020.

This was disclosed by the Group Chairman, Mr. Gautam Adani, at the recent Vibrant Gujarat

2015 summit here.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Group will be signing an exclusive MoU with the Port of Rotter-

dam to jointly identify and attract port-based industries in Gujarat.

Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), India’s largest multi-port operator, runs facilities at Mundra, Hazira, Dahej and

now Kandla in Gujarat, which handled well over 100 million tonnes of cargo in 2014.

Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) recently announced that it has obtained authorization to act as ‘Recognized Organization’ and ‘Recognized Security Organization’ to carry out statutory survey, audit and certification of Bahamian ships, and audit and certification of companies operating

Bahamian ships.

This recognition reflects the increasing acceptance of IRClass by all major maritime ad-ministrations all over the world and is indicative of the progress made by IRClass in its efforts to

internationalize and embrace new markets, highlighted an official release.

With this development, IRClass is now approved as a ‘Recognized Organization’ by 25 countries apart from India, the statement added. Bahamas is amongst the top 6 flag states in the world with

more than 56 million GT.
