INTENT OF THE DEGREE

The Associate Degree of Applied Nautical Science was designed for individuals interested in a career atsea. This program incorporates education and an internship program that can lead a successful student into a rewarding career. A sea going career requires an individual who has a passion for the water, isn’t afraid of hard work, has a high degree of integrity, and loves adventure. If you have these qualities, NortheastMaritime Institute is the place for you to start preparing for your career!

Northeast Maritime Institute has been the pre-eminent maritime education and training facility for professional mariners since 1981. Our commitment to providing our students with the best training equipment, facilities, and experienced instructors has enabled us to become a globally respected maritime education institution for U.S. and International mariners around the globe.

We have had over three decades of success providing continuing education to professional mariners. This accomplishment gave us the incentive to design a program for students who want to enter the maritime industry but do not have the necessary sea time, while at the same time providing them with a college degree. The International Maritime Organization set forth the Standards of Certification & Watchkeeping (STCW) in 1978 as an international training standard for all mariners. Since that time the training required for merchant mariners has steadily increased, making the path for an entry-level mariner more difficult. Our degree program creates a “fast track” to meeting the STCW requirements, as well as those from the U.S. Coast Guard, allowing you to start your career as a licensed mariner in less time.

We look forward to enrolling you as a Nautical Science student and believe that if you love the ocean, you will love what we have to offer. You will find camaraderie, commitment, a supportive educationalenvironment and a career that provides upward mobility. So get ready for the opportunity of a lifetime!
