Martinez_Creativity Questions 1. Describe what you need in order to accomplish certain tasks that require thought and concentration. Reading? Writing? Practicing? Exercising? Compare and contrast your needs for different settings amongst these activities (or others of your choosing). For the creativity process to being in my writing and reading, I need complete silence and focus. I easily get distracted so I need to turn off all background noises, inured to have a more productive time doing homework. When I practice, I like having the tv on. This helps me take small breaks between exercises. I’ve discovered that if I play with no distractions I have the tendency to overplay and wear down and get tired sooner, but if I rest I get more work done and can play longer. While I exercises I have a show or music going to help pass the time, since I don’t like working out that much, but I know it has to be done. At the end of the day I like to do any activity as productive as I can to reflect my person into all my activities. 2. What are some things you do to feed your creative side? Do you do anything else in your life that you consider to be creative outside the field of music? I have a little brother who is extremely creative and is constantly asking me to play pretend with him. This helps me keep my child heart active ad helps remind me why I do what I do. Besides my little brother, I also have a passion for culinary. Culinary is an artistic way in releasing my creative side, when I feel music isn’t enough. Is interpreting a piece of music that has already been composed and comes with (relatively) clear instructions a creative act? How much space is there for “creativity” when you are beholden to staying “true” to the composer’s vision. Do you have opportunity to be creative here or not? Do you do anything else in your life that you consider to be creative outside the field of music?I have a little brother who is extremely creative and is constantly asking me to play pretend with him. This helps me keep my child heart active ad helps remind me why I do what I do. Besides my little brother, I also have a passion for culinary. Culinary is an artistic way in releasing my creative side, when I feel music isnt enough. Also there are so many analogies that involve music and food, so I think I can better understand them both because of my passion.3. Is interpreting a piece of music that has already been composed and comes with (relatively) clear instructions a creative act? How much space is there for creativity when you are beholden to staying true to the composers vision. Do you have opportunity to be creative here or not? Part of the beauty of music is that not only do you play for you, you play for composers and conductors. That is their art. Their job is to take all of our creativity and define it into a single idea. Which is extremely difficult the more players there are. No matter what you play, as musicians we must play every note with so much meaning and life. That way, it doesnt matter what were being told to play we are playing with all of our creativity.4. Theres a freedom that comes from having constraints. To what extent do you agree with this and why?I think thats part of the beauty of music. If you look up to every hero, they play with so much ease that it seems as if they have no limits. They make the limits seem limitless. That is what makes or breaks a musician. Without any limits, a musician has no reason to test the limits of his/her ability or the limits of the music.
