Speed of Edit is manipulated – Its speeded up or slowed down

In Rihanna’s ‘We found love’ video the video is constantly slowed down and then sped up again. The left picture shows where the video is slowed down and then the picture on the right shows where the video is sped up. The video is slowed down at parts where Rihanna is kissing the man, this is to emphasise love and link to the song lyrics. The song is also sped up and time lapsed to show the affects f the drugs that the couple are taking and to create an image of their relationship which is slightly Crazy.

Music Video’s are not always balanced between performance and Narrative

As you can see in the picture on the left before Taylor Swift became a big pop artist her music videos were more or less completely based of performance. This is because at the time she was much more country music based and wasn’t very popular. However now since she has become more pop based and since her image has grown she has done much more narrative videos. This is because she is more popular than she was before and she can afford to be more artistic than she used to be.

Music Video’s don’t always have a Narrative Resolution at the End

In Olly Murs’ ‘Kiss Me’ it shows Olly going on dates with a girl. They do loads of things like going on a rollercoaster, going on a dinner date and going to the beach. It shows how they’re seeing each other and dating. Then at the end the video just cuts to black and shows or says nothing about what happens between the two of them. Since there is no official ending the video leaves the ending up to the imagination of the viewer and leaves the ending without a narrative resolution. A bit like a cliff hangar.

Music Videos often pose questions in the narrative that are not answered in the video?

There are questions about the story line in the video that people may have that are not answered in the video. An example of this can be seen in the picture of the left, why are the couple in the field? The answer is not explained or answered in the video and is left up to the viewer. People may also ask how they met or why they’re together to it just leaves the answers up to the imagination of the person watching
