Lab Assignment 3 - Deadline: April 17, 2015
Instructions: 1. The assignment has to be delivered as hard copy (your answer sheets) no later than 1100 Hrs,
April 17, 2015. Your approaches, procedures, and results should be clearly presented, all the
assumptions must be explicitly mentioned. Make sure that you submit the assignment on
specified day else there will be a penality of deduction of 2 marks per day.
2. The assignment is to be submitted on individual basis, copying someone else's solution will lead
to a punishment, i.e.,the one who provides his/her solution for copying and the one who copies,
both will get zero marks for the copied part.
3. Copying a solution from an Instructor manual will also result in zero marks for the copied part.
Question 1: (10 Marks) Find the class of each address and state its subnet mask.
a. 00000001 00001011 00001011 11101111
b. 11000001 10000011 00011011 11111111
c. 14.23.120.8
Question 2: (20 Marks) Apply custom sub-netting to the following addresses and answer the questions accordingly.
a. 192.168.10.0 (/26)
b. 10.0.0.0 (/10)
I. What should be the subnet mask?
II. What is the address space and number of useful hosts per subnet
III. How many useful subnets can be created?
IV. State the IP addresses of useful subnets.
V. Determine the range of IP address which can be supported with the network 192.168.10.0
(/26).
Question 3: (30 Marks)
Given a class C IP address 192.168.20.0, develop a subnetting scheme using VLSM, with host
requirement given as: Subnet A: 60 hosts, Subnet B: 20, Subnet C: 120, Subnet D: 2, Subnet E: 2.
Determine the subnet mask, network address and the IP range of the host supported by each of the
subnets.
