Standard and Target for Success: Itis expected that 70% students thattook the tests will score at least 70%on each test.

Faculty Assessment Leader: Mandeda UchFaculty Contributing to Assessment:Reviewer's Comments:

Action: I want to set the standard at75% of students passing each test, because listening to music critically isone of the most important activity inthis class. Of the 9 tests given, 6 arealready at a 75% or higher. Toachieve this I will have 3 tests for allsections. I feel that there is animbalance amount of tests betweenthe online and offline classes. Theonline classes (sections 9129 and9130) have two, while the offlinehave 5 tests. (12/09/2016)Action Category: TeachingStrategies

Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: 2015-16 (Fall2015)Standard Met? : Standard MetFor section 9126: Test 1 result: 20 students got 70% orhigher; while 8 students got less than 70%; 71% of studentspass.

Test 2 result: 18 students got 70% orhigher; while 7 students got less than 70%; 72% of studentspass.

Test 3 result: 20 students got 70% orhigher; while 5students got less than 70%; 80% of studentspass.

Test 4 result: 18 students got 70% orhigher; while 6 students got less than 70%; 75% of studentspass.

Test 5 result: 20 students got 70% orhigher; while 4 students got less than 70%; 83% of studentspass.

For section 9129: Exam 1 result: 24 students got 70% orhigher; while 5 got less than 70%; 83% of students pass.

Exam 2 result: 27 students got 70% orhigher; while 5 got less than 70%; 84% of students pass.

For section 9130: Exam 1 result: 18 students got 70% orhigher; while 7 got less than 70%; 72% of students pass.

Exam 2 result: 25 students got 70% orhigher; while 2 got less than 70%; 92% of students pass. (01/14/2016)Reviewer's Comments:

Exam/Test/Quiz - Students were tolisten to pieces of music and selectthe correct description of themusical elements. There were threesections (9126, 9129, 9130). Insection 9126 there were fivelistening tests given to the studentsthroughout the semester. The firsttest covers musical elements of theMedieval and Renaissance periods. The second test covered musicalelements of the Baroque period. The third tests covered the Classicalperiod. Standard and Target for Success:The standard for success is based ona point system of 0-4. I expect atleast 70% of the student to pass. The students must perform the piecein its entirety to pass with a C. 0=Fail(no performance); 1=D (studentsperformed, but with many wrongsnotes, fingering, and did not play theentire piece; 2=C (this is a pass, butthe performance is less than 80beats of the metronome, one to twowrong notes, stopped 1 or 2 times, inconsistent fingerings, but thestudents played through the end);3=B (stopped once, one or twowrong notes, changed fingering);4=A (Excellent, the performance hasno wrong notes, fingering, norinconsistent rhythm).

Faculty Assessment Leader: Mandeda UchFaculty Contributing to Assessment:Reviewer's Comments:

Action: For future assessments Iwant at least a 90% success rate. This requires that the MusicDepartment have ample functionalpracticing rooms. At the momentonly 3 are available. Successfulperformances required students topractice outside of the classroomregularly. Not having enough spaceswill limit student's success.(12/11/2016)Action Category: Program/CollegeSupport

Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: 2015-16 (Fall2015)Standard Met? : Standard MetThe assessment was done on the last day of class. Therewere 10 student left in the class. Standard and Target for Success: It’sexpected that 95% of the studentswill score 85% or above on this SLO.Even though students are meetingthe required attendance andparticipation they are still below thestandard due to the lack of anaccompanist.

Faculty Assessment Leader: Tim DavisFaculty Contributing to Assessment:Reviewer's Comments:

Action: Program/College- The musicdepartment is in great need ofadditional faculty along with currentmusic technology. In order for themusic department to graduate anystudents we must be able to offer allrequired courses that will allow for aAA degree in music. (10/24/2016)Action Category: Program/CollegeSupport

Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: 2015-16 (Fall2015)Standard Met? : Standard Not MetThe results from my assessment are predicated on the lackof proper practice facilities, the lack of a full timeaccompanist (03/10/2016)

Reviewer's Comments:

Performance - Concert Choirstudents are expected to have ahealthy practicum of vocalexecution, along with singing in 4 to8 part harmony. Learning how toread and follow ones vocal part aswell as following the conductor.

Action: The department of music atthe Compton Center is under-supported in terms of Studentapplied lessons for both vocal andinstrumental students. The AppliedLessons are a requirement set by theDepartment of Education for Musicstudents (which is a standard forcollege music students world wide)to complete at the CommunityCollege before graduating ortransferring to a Four Year University.Once the student is accepted into theUniversity, their applied lessons willcontinue at that University until theycomplete their B.A. Degree. This is aserious situation at the ComptonCenter and until it corrected Musicstudent enrollment will continue tobe low. The faculty has pointed thisout in the El Camino College Catalogto the college administratorsnumerous times over the last 10years.This needs to be corrected A.S.A.P.(01/11/2016) (01/11/2016)

Follow-Up: The next follow upwill be Spring 2016 with a similarcourse Musicm267. (04/27/2016)

Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: 2015-16 (Fall2015)Standard Met? : Standard Met100% of the students were successful by demonstrating atleast 90% accuracy in completing this SLO. Theirperformance was very convincing and showed that they hadlearned to apply the techniques which they had learned andpracticed during the Fall 2015 semester. They performedwith a lot of energy and confidence. The only draw backwas a little nervousness from the vocalist, which was totallynormal since she were performing in front of a live audiencefor the first time. (01/11/2016)

Reviewer's Comments:

Performance - PerformanceStudents was asked to participate ina live performance to demonstratetheir ability to blend as an ensemble, play in tune using proper dynamics, balance and phrasing.
