ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS, CONICAL, SINGLE-FLOW EXTRUSION CROSSHEAD STREAMLINE EXTRUSION, INC.

Following is a set of photos and verbal descriptions for assembling the Conical, Single-Flow Extrusion Crosshead Assembly. Upon receipt of the extrusion head assembly, completely disassemble, and then re-assemble with these instructions before use. Numbers in parentheses (##) refer to item numbers related to the assembly drawing ST46174. The acronym “ASC” refers to high temperature anti-seize compound, 800°F minimum temperature resistance. SEI recommends that pressure-joint fasteners to be tightened to 70-75% of full load torque as specified in the Unbrako® engineering guide. This will be the referred to as the Recommended Torque Value (RTV). The following web link will allow you to download the PDF guide. See page 7 of this guide to find full load torque values for each screw diameter. http://www.unbrako.com/engineer_guide.htm Step1

Figure 1 All the following item numbers refer to subassembly SEI ST46174. Find the head cartridge weldment (16). Insure that conical surfaces are clean, smooth, and burr-free. Add a small amount of ASC to the upstream and downstream face threads and the cartridge heater through-holes. Figure 1 shows the downstream view of the head cartridge weldment.

Step 10

Figure 18 Locate 4 pcs. socket head cap screws (21) M16 x 30mm lg. Thread two screws into the top two holes of the manifold flange. Remove the two guide rods from the bottom holes of the manifold and thread two more screw into the lower two holes. Tights the four screw to the RTV. Step 11

Figure 19 Locate the thermocouple adapter (22) and the bayonet thermocouple (2).

Step 12

Figure 20 Insert thermocouple adapter (14) to pipe tapped hole and tighten with a flat-bladed screwdriver. Insert the spring-loaded bayonet thermocouple into the adapter. Be sure the spring tension setting provided good contact of the thermocouple tip to the bottom of the pipe tapped hole. See Figure 20.

Figure 21 Figure 21 shows a closer view of the thermocouple and thermocouple adapter installation.

Step 13

Figure 22 Locate the die holder flange (4) and die holder nose (5). Step 14

Figure 23 Thread the nose into the flange until the end of the nose is flush with the face of the flange.

Step 15

Figure 24 Figure 24 shown the nose threaded into, and flush with the flange face. Step 16.

Figure 25 Locate front clamp flange (8) and 4 pcs hex head cap screw (13) M16 x 50mm lg. Thread screws into the four tapped radial holes until flush with the flange counterbore inner diameter.

Step 17

Figure 26 Locate the die holder flange into the clamp flange. Orient the die holder flange so that the milled flats on the die holder flange match the four radial screw locations. Step 18

Figure 27 Locate the nozzle holder (17), the tip adjustment tube (24) and the tip adjustment plate (23). Apply a small amount of ASC to the threads of the nozzle holder and thread into the tip adjustment tube.

Step 19

Figure 28 Locate 2 pcs. leadwire cover weldment (14) and 6 pcs. button head cap screws (21) M4 x 8mm lg. Locate 4 pcs. front clamp studs (9). Step 20

Figure 29 From the front of the manifold, thread the tip adjustment tube into manifold until it protrudes through the rear of the manifold flange. After applying a small amount of ASC to the threads of the clamp studs, thread them fully into the four holes on the front face of the head cartridge.

Step 21

Figure 30 Figure 30 shows the mandrel tube protruding from the back of the manifold flange. Step 22

Figure 31 Locate 4 pcs flat washers (7) and 4 pcs hex nuts, 16mm (10). Again apply a small amount of ASC to the exposed stud threads. Fasten the front clamp flange to the front of the head cartridge. Do not over torque these nuts as over torquing will increase the difficulty of the centering adjustment.

Step 23

Figure 32 Locate the tip adjustment plate (23) and apply a small amount of ASC to the threads. Thread the plate onto the tip adjustment tube (24). Locate 2 pcs hex head cap screws, M16 x 40 mm lg (11), 2 pcs flat washers (7) and 2 pcs hex head cap screws, M16 x 65 mm lg. With the thread adjustment plate rotated to the correct orientation, thread the 65mm screws through the clearance holes of the adjustment plate and thread the screws into the rear of the head cartridge. Thread the 40mm screws into the threaded holes of the adjustment plate to match the spotfaces in the back of the manifold flange. Locate the long nozzle plug (15) and place into the tube holder from the back of the assembly. See figure 33.

Step 24

Figure 33 Figure 33 shows the nozzle plug protruding from the front of the nozzle holder. Step 25

Figure 34 Locate the die holder nose (5) and apply a small amount of ASC to the threads. Insert the doe holder nose into the die holder flange. The nose may be tightened into the flange using the two provided pin spanner wrenches. As the nose threads into the flange, it will make contact with the face of the head cartridge. Do not overtighten the nose.

Following are instructions for the disassembly of this extrusion crosshead. Numbers in parentheses (##) refer to item numbers related to the assembly drawing ST46174_DIS. Step 26

Figure 36 Locate 2 pcs assembly/disassembly shafts (5) from drawing ST46174-DIS. Locate 2 pcs extractor rod weldments (16). Remove the two lower M16 socket head cap screws from the back of the manifold flange. Thread completely the two guide shafts into the now available tapped holes. Thread the two extractor rod weldments into the two threaded holes at the back of the manifold flange. The extractor rods will make contact with the spot faces on the back of the head cartridge.
