Dr Husam Rezeq has a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery where he is currently the Director of Exercise is Medicine (EIM). In addition to his educational agenda he earned his Masters of Public Health from Manchester University in London, UK. Exercise is Medicine® Qatar (EIM) is a global initiative that is managed in Qatar by Aspetar as part of their Healthy Lifestyle Programme (HLP), and is considered one of the key components in supporting the goals and objectives of the National Health Strategy and vision of Aspetar.

Prof Mathew G. Wilson (PhD) is Aspetarʼs Lead Performance Physiologist. Previously, Prof Wilson has served as the Laboratory Director at the Research Centre for Sports and Exercise Performance at the University of Wolverhampton, and as the Cardiac Screening Manager for the CRY Centre for Sports Cardiology within the Olympic Medical Institute, UK. His research focus is on the athletes› heart and mechanisms of sudden cardiac death in young and veteran athletes. Prof Wilson has screened over 10,000 athletes, which has led to the production of over 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications. This research has provided internationally recognised best practice models for cost-effective screening protocols and has produced new baseline cardiologic data for ethnically diverse populations.

Arnhild Bakken is a Physiotherapist from Norway. She completed her master’s degree in Sport Physiotherapy in 2011 at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences at the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center (OSTRC), where she was carrying out analysis of injuries occurring in the FIS Snowboard World Cup. She joined Aspetar in February of 2013 as a Post Graduate Researcher, and is currently undertaking a project on the benefits of periodic health evaluation (PHE) in athletes with a focus on musculoskeletal screening which is a part of Aspetar Sports Injury & Illness Prevention Programme (ASPREV).

Dr. Juan Manual Alonso is a Spanish-trained Sports Medicine Physician and is currently the Acting Chief of Sports Medicine at Aspetar. He has vast experience in Track and Field and has attended six Summer Olympic Games and nine World Outdoor Athletics Championships. He has been the Medical Director of the Spanish Athletics Federation for the past seventeen years, and was also the CMO for IAAF World Championships in Seville 2003. He is the chair of the IAAF Medical and Anti-Doping Commission with a global responsibility for anti-doping and improving athlete care for all 200 countries in the Athletics Federation. He has published several papers on athletics injuries, the majority on epidemiology.

Silvia Cebrian is a Sport Physiotherapist at Aspetar, and is currently also a PhD Candidate at the University of Barcelona. In 2014, she completed a Master’s Degree in Sport Physiotherapy and has been a Senior Sport Physiotherapist at Aspetar since 2009. She has worked with several sports organisations such as the Catalan Federation of Handball and the Burton Rugby Club. She currently has two publications related to sport injuries.

Dr. Boris Poberaj is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialised in shoulder and knee surgery. He completed his degree in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Clinical Center Ljubljana, Slovenia. His educational activities in USA, SAR and Europe were focused mainly in arthroscopic shoulder surgery. He was a founder of the European Shoulder Associates (ESA) at ESSKA and later, the society’s President. He has worked in the Orthopaedic Hospital Valdoltra in the Arthroscopy and Sports Injuries Department, where he treated many national and international athletes. At the same time he has been a consultant in several Orthopaedic Centres around Europe. He is involved in a number of scientific societies (ESSKA, EFORT, and SSAST).

Dr. Alexandre Creuze is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation/Sports Medicine Doctor from Bordeaux, France. In 2010, he served as the Chief Medical Officer of La Tour de Gassies, Brugees. He was also the team physician for several clubs including the regional tennis and soccer leagues of Guyenne, Girondins de Bordeaux FC Training Center, and Stade Bordelais tennis club. From 2013 to 2014, he served as the Doctor of the Handisport French Federation, the team doctor of the National Blind Soccer Team, and the President of the National Para-cycling Classification. Currently, he is the doctor of the Saint Medard Rugby Team. Dr Creuze has specific interest in conservative treatment and research in groin pain in athletes.

Dr. Zarko Vuckovic is a General Surgeon and a groin pain specialist, currently Deputy Head of Aspetar Sports Groin Pain Centre. Alongside his work as a surgeon, having a notable sports culture and affection for sports, he has also worked with a number of high level sports organisations throughout his career (Serbian Handball Federation, Qatar Volleyball Association and Al Shamal FC), and participated as a team physician in various international and local competitions. He was a member of the Medical Organizing Committee EYOF 2007 Belgrade, Serbia, and medical consultant to Mr. Bora Milutinovic during 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup preparation for Iraq National team. Since 2010, Dr. Vuckovic has been devoted entirely to diagnostics and treatment of sports related groin pain, treating more than 100 athletes with this medical condition per year.

Arnlaug is a Postgraduate Researcher at Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Doha, Qatar. She has since 2013 led the project “Diagnosis and prognosis of acute hamstring injuries among male athletes”. The project is a collaboration with the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences (NSSS) and the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center (OSTRC), where she is a PhD student. Arnlaug is a trained physiotherapist with a BSc from the University of Oslo (2007) and has an MSc in Sports Physiotherapy from NSSS (2011). As a master student she was part of the project “Risk factors for ACL injuries among female elite handball- and football players”. Working as a physiotherapist, Arnlaug has experience with prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries within handball, football, biathlon, cross country skiing and ballet.

Dr. Celeste Geertsema, FACSP, is a Sports Medicine Physician at Aspetar with her main interests being in football, skiing, snowboarding and athletes traveling. She was the Medical Doctor of 2002 New Zealand Mt Everest expedition. She was working at the Adidas Sports Medicine in Oakland (FIFA Centre of Excellence) and was the New Zealand Team Physician at the 2010 FIFA world Cup in South Africa before joining Aspetar. She has extensive experience working alongside FIFA in various World Cups - participated as a FIFA Medical Officer at the Women’s Football World Cup and U17 Women’s World Cup, and was also Medical Officer at the Winter Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games.

Prof Eric Witvrouw is the Lead Research and Education Physiotherapist of the Rehabilitation Department at Aspetar. He holds a Ph.D. and two Master’s Degrees in Physiotherapy and Sports Physiotherapy from Leuven University, Belgium. He has research, education and clinical expertise in knee, muscle, and tendon injuries, and as a result, has published 112 papers in peer-reviewed international journals. He worked as a Professor at Ghent University, Belgium. Between 1989 and 1995, Witvrouw worked as a physiotherapist of the professional Belgium Basketball team Leuven and between 2000 and 2002 as physiotherapist for the National Indoor Belgian Futsal team.

Dr. Philippe Landreau is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialised in sports traumatology, knee and shoulder surgery, and arthroscopic surgery and is currently the Chief of Surgery at Aspetar. He has worked with several organisations of repute such as the Private Hospital of Sport Medicine Paris V, the main Sport Private Hospital in Paris, American Hospital of Paris, and University Hospital of La Pitie-Salpetrière. In addition, he holds professional memberships and board positions at a number of societies including the French Society of Sports Traumatology (SFTS), the French Arthroscopic Society, the French Society of Orthopaedic and Traumatologic Surgery (SOFCOT), the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedic Sports Traumatology (EFOST) and the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS).

Dr. Paul Dijkstra joined the Aspetar Sports Medicine team in February 2013 as Sports Medicine Physician. He is on the UK General Medical Council specialist register and a Fellow of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine (UK). He has been appointed as the Local Organising Committee Chief Medical Officer to the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) that was held in Doha, Qatar in December 2014. He is a member of the Technical Advisory Group to the National Committee on Nutrition and Physical Activity working on the development of the physical activity guidelines for the State of Qatar and leads the subcommittee on physical activity guidelines for medical conditions. Dr Dijkstra has extensive experience in Track and Field and has travelled to many national and international events as a Team Physician for the Great Britain Team (2013-2008) before joining Aspetar.

Dr. Eduardo Mauri is a Sports Medicine Physician and a former professional football player from Spain. In 1997, he was appointed as the first team doctor of RCD Espanyol until 2004, continuing his career in the same club as Chief Medical Officer until 2008. He worked in Aspetar as a Sports Medicine Physician (-20082012), and then in 2013 he returned to Barcelona where he is currently Head of the Sports Medicine Unit at Hospital Chiron Barcelona, collaborating closely with Dr. Ramon Cugat from Chiron Trauma Institute.

Dr. Eva Carneiro is a Sports Medicine Physician who is best known for serving as the first-team doctor of Chelsea Football Club from 2009 to 2015. Educated at the University of Nottingham, the Australasian College of Sports Physicians in Melbourne and Queen Mary University of London, she worked variously for West Ham United, the Public Health Department and the Olympic Medical Institute. She is well known for her expertise in Sports Injury Management at elite club levels and has gained experience in the diagnosis of injury, treatment, rehabilitation, psychology, nutrition and strength and conditioning of athletes of elite level.
