Metaphors was created in August 2002 by Richard MacGilchrist and Plamen Nikolov. Our

ambition was simple, to provide the best creative work built on solid strategic thinking for

businesses who could not afford the price of large agencies.

OnOn the first day of business we won our first client, two weeks later we won our second.

Within six months Metaphors was working for a wide range of clients in the UK, France and

Germany. Since then we have continued to grow working with a wide range of clients, from

listed plc’s to SME’s. Our market experience spans management consultants, logistics,

healthcare, engineering, premium restaurants, banking and insurance, independent schools

and state academies, travel, I.T, training, recruitment, software developers and more.

WWe still remain true to our founding principals and ambitions; offering strategic insight,

refreshing creativity and flawless delivery. And, we’re told that we’re nice people to work

Schenker), one of the world's largest logistics companies. Our task was to create a

new positioning, brand name and identity for this newly autonomous company, so

that is was equipped to meet the commercial challenges of its new markets.

TheThe new umbrella brand spans a breadth of services and products from light engi-

neering to world class suspension systems. As with many of our projects the work

extended from creating the name, identity and service descriptor system into a total

branding solution, where we were responsible to all aspects of the brand’s commu-

nications including exhibition stands, product sheets, brochures to website.

Baraka is a premium restaurant with a difference.

It has a passion for fusion, combining traditional

French cooking techniques with eastern spices

and flavours. Its menu is predominantly seafood.

TheThe answer was to create a memorable brand

mark out of the 'B' of Baraka. By separating it

into two components we created a visual repre-

sentation of the fusion of these two cultures, and

if you look closely, the intersecting points of

these two components form the shape of a fish.

modernise their brand. Part of this process included

reinventing their identity, which had become tired and

creative brief we explored a variety of options, includ-

ing the idea of transformation.

The outcome was a transformation of their identity, in

ESG (Engineering Support Group) is an innovative firm of

engineering consultants in passenger and freight rolling stock

engineering across the UK and mainland Europe.

At the heart of their offer beats a relentless focus on our cus-

tomers’ needs with an obsession to deliver right-first-time,

on-time.

Our task was to revitalize the brand, creating a new identity,

new print design system and new website. In addition, we

created a range of internal template systems ensuring the

brand remained consistent through-out the sales process

with design collateral from press advertising to PowerPoint

presentations, proposal documents.

Pagoda is a management consultancy with a 20 year track record. Like many com-

panies, pagoda had witnessed phases of significant growth, and on occasions,

times of decline. Having streamlined their business the owners of the company rec-

ognized that their communications failed to project the company's depth, expertise

and innovation.

On this occasion we completely reinvented the brand. We created a new typeface

and brand icon designed to suggest the layers of depth and expertise contained

within the company by using the roof of a pagoda drawn in a style that also sug-

gested movement and progression..

The design system was then extended through-out thier print and digital marketing

collateral to create a consistent visual signature.

recruitment. Over the past decade they have appeared twice in

the Sunday Times/Virgin Atlantic fast track top 100.

OurOur challenge was to create a complete branding solution that

unified its four divisions (IT Support, Recruitment, Managed

Services and Consulting) under a common theme, across print

and digital media. The new identity ensured that the words 'plan'

and 'net' would be seen as two components and that contained

a mnemonic that represented growth, an idea which would

appeal to its internal audiences, to prospective clients, and two

Quartzelec was the UK division of Cegelec, the french

engineering company. Following an MBO in 2006, the

management team had 12 months during which they

could operate under the Cegelec name, after that,

they needed to operate under a new brand.

WithWith three months of this agreement remaining, we

were brought in to create the Quartzelec brand; from

identity, to divisional print systems, sales support

material and new website. Four years on the Electrical

Engineering Specialists grow from strength to strength

with a turn-over in excess of £50 million.

brief, and to define the brand's point of difference within

a highly competitive market, we distilled the key values

we needed to communicate with simplicity and

business specialism at the fore. Unsurprisingly perhaps,

the name 'Simply Business' soon sprang to mind.

the identity that used the 'S' and 'B' of the brand name,

to create a simple yet powerful stamp of authority and

professionalism.
