The Dream Fast, secure, ubiquitous access to applications hosted in the cloud

The Reality Protocols inherent to Internet architecture limit data transfer speed

Users are widely/globally distributed Variety of connection types exist (cable, DSL, etc)

    Traffic patterns are highly variable

    The Result

Cloud services suffer poor Quality of Experience Upload experience particularly limited

    Bandwidth is highly over-provisioned

Users often deterred from popular data (i.e. videos)

The origin and destination nodes actas TCP proxies for data.

Asankya transport algorithmsoptimize the utilization of the

aggregate capacity between theorigin and the destination.

    Algorithms include

    Accelerated start-up, advancedcongestion reaction

    Quick and reliable loss detection

    Multi-state operations

    Auto-tuning, multi-stage flow control

    Intelligent Transport Detail

The TCP transport layer protocolhas severe deficiencies inachieving high utilization when theend-to-end bandwidth, delay orloss-rate is high

Traditional TCP optimization solutions can onlytweak TCP in two ways to improve utilization:(1) Increase advertised flow control window size

through window scaling; and(2) Selective acknowledgements in addition to the

    default cumulative acknowledgements

Intelligent Transport is designed withoutTCPs limitations. Its elements include:

    (1)Accelerated start-up, ratemaintenance,

    (2)Super-linear increase andproportional decrease congestioncontrol

    (3)Fast, robust loss detection and

recovery(4)Auto buffer management(5)Multi-state operations use RAPID

scheduling algorithm to split physicalflows into multiple virtual flows

All overlay mesh nodes act as routereflection points on the AsankyaRAPIDnet network.

The origin node uses the reflection

nodes to create multiple overlaypaths to the destination node.

It then uses RAPID to successfullyharness and aggregate thethroughputs available along themultiple paths.

RAPID moves the seatof intelligence to thesending side in usingmultiple paths

    The RAPID protocol

    (1) characterizes available paths interms of throughput, delay andloss performance, and

    (2) stripes packets over the pathssuch that (with a high probability)they arrive at the receiving end in

    the correct order

A safety net reassemblyprocess at the receivingend guarantees no out oforder delivery

RAPID scheduling algorithm decides(1) how much to send along a path(2) in what order to send them to

    achieve in-order delivery

    Asankya Unique Benefits

    15

    Asankya Benefit Why? Who Cares?

Improves throughput 10x Best in class today is 1.5 to 2x. For manybuyers, performance is #1 criteria and 2x isnot enough.

Corporate IT, SaaS, dynamic web sites, commerce sites, cloud storage and compute

    Accelerates all encryptedtraffic

WAN optimization techniques (CIFS, MAPIacceleration, compression) cannot be doneon encrypted traffic

Corporate traffic moving to the Internet needsencryptionTraffic also needs speed improvement to matchprivate network speeds.

Two-way Dynamic Increasingly applications are morecollaborative and more dynamic, whichmakes them two-way and non-cacheable.

Companies wanting to use Sharepoint, videoconferencing, storage (uploads), andcommerce (non-cacheable) apps.

Application Independent WAN Optimization improvements areprotocol and application specific.

Companies with more than one application orapplications that use unique protocols.

    Improve throughput at 'in-country' distances

Existing WOC and Overlay Networkofferings do not improve in-country/in

    continent traffic .

Half of application traffic typically happens in-country even small improvements have a big

    effect.

    Consistent performanceglobally

Traditional Network Overlay Services onlyimprove where their systems have beendeployed and may miss large portions ofthe global network.

Online services dont control where their uses

come from need best performance fromanywhere in the world.
