As you have learnt, we know about life in Ancient Greece from surviving buildings and art, as well as archaeological discoveries at ancient sites. Ancient Greek vases, like the

ones below, were often painted with scenes from daily life. These paintings tell us about how the Ancient Greeks lived.

Have a look at the vases below. What colours are used? What pictures can you see on the vases? What do you think they are showing?

This week, we would like you to design your own Ancient Greek vase. On your vase, we would like you to draw something that tells us a little bit about you. You could draw:

There is an outline of a vase for you to use, should you wish to, on the next page or feel free to draw your own in your books or get creative. Try to replicate the colours used in

Ancient Greece.

Unfortunately, one of our favourite events to take place at school, Sports Day, can not take place as usual this year. However, instead, we would like you to design your own sports day to enjoy at home. How you do this is entirely up to you. Be creative. You could incorporate some of the activities that we would usually do or you could invent

your own events and obstacle courses. Take a look below for some inspiration:

Make your own edible medals!

Have a look at these recipes below. Can you bake your own medals? https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/

Why not design your own Sports Day mascot. You could take inspiration from well known mascots used in different team sports or even at the Olympics.

We would love to see some of your stay at home sports days. Remember to email us some pictures to [email protected]

Or, if you fancy something a little different, check out the Sock Olympic Sports Day ideas on the next page!

Drop your ball of socks behind your head and try to catch it between your legs. Have a practice first! How many can you catch in 1 minute?

Can you keep the ball of socks up in the air using just your feet? How many keepy uppies can you complete in 1 minute?

Put a bucket or laundry basket 4 metres away. How many times can you throw your ball of socks into the bucket, collect, return and throw again in 1 minute?

Set up 6 skittles (toilet roll tubes/empty bottles). Stand 3m away and use your ball of socks to knock them down! How many can you knock down in 3 individual throws?

Choose a starting position then see how far you can throw your ball of socks. Measure your throw to the nearest cm!

Place your ball of socks on the floor and see how many times you can jump over them and back in 1 minute!

Put your socks into one hand & throw to your other, like a rainbow arch! How many rainbows can you throw in 1 minute?

You can put your socks down for this one (or put them on!). Stand still and jump as far as you possibly can!

A pair of socks! (Preferably clean ones!) Stopwatch/timer Tape measure/ruler

Why not challenge a member of your family. Who can get the

highest scores?

Measure to the nearest cm

How many can you do in 1 minute?

Have 3 goes. Your score will be out of 18.

Last week we met super scientist, Sir David Attenborough. This week, you are going to become a natural historian just like Sir David and plan a nature documentary about an animal of your choice. You will have to carry out some careful research before completing the script template on the next page.

Choose one of the animals below or an animal of your own choice:

If you could do Year 5 again would you change

anything? If so, what would you change

and why?

Write a response to each of the boxes below. You might want to discuss your thoughts with an adult.

Now, let’s look ahead to Year 6. What do you want to achieve?
