    The Challenge

Compared to building projects, infrastructure projects :

    Come at an earlier stage

    Have a larger impact

    Yet, have less-understood sustainability requirements

Investing ~100 billion USDin Qatars infrastructure in

    Overview of QSAS/GSAS

    - Who developed it?

    - What are the different rating systems?

GORD: Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (not for profitsubsidiary of QATARI DIAR Real Estate Investment Company previously BQDRI)

GSAS Commercial Buildings GSAS Residential Buildings GSAS Schools GSAS Core & Shell GSAS Districts (Previously

    referred to as QSASNeighborhoods)

    GSAS Parks GSAS Mixed Use

GSAS Mosques GSAS Hotels GSAS Light Industries GSAS Sports GSAS Rail GSAS Healthcare GSAS Bespoke

    QSAS/GSAS development

Developed through extensivereview of all international ratingsystems.

Best Mix combining the bestmethods for the 6 most establishedrating systems

Purpose is to provide a frameworkto benchmark sustainability of

projects with respect to the issueswhich are important to Qatar, e.g:desertification, scarcity of water, cultural heritage

    QSAS or GSAS?

QSAS : Qatar Sustainability Rating System (2009) [Version1]

GSAS : Global Sustainability Rating System (2013) [Version 2]

The QSAS V.1 and GSAS V.2 systems are very similar ,key changes include:

Addition of criteria to several categories (including Site,Management + Legacy)Removal of some criteria from categories (Urban Connectivitycriteria reduced)Some of the credit weightings have been adjusted +/- a few

percentagesFor the Urban Connectivity and Management and Operations

categories, non-compliance will no longer be penalized (minimumscore is 0 vs. -1).

Is QSAS/GSAS Mandatory? The Ministry of Environment

introduced a new section in thelatest version of QatarConstruction Specifications ( QCS2010 ) entitled Sect ion 7 GreenConstruction, with recommendminimum scores

In Lusail , projects have to

    achieve aminimum 2 Star

    Certification Process - Design

    Register project online (www.qsas.org ) need to login with username and password;

Complete project application form and sendit back to GORD together with your

payment (registration + 50% certification); Submit project documents online; After review/verification by GORD, pay

remaining 50% certification fee GORD issues Letter of Conformance

How to become QSAS/GSAS - CGP [Certified

    Green Professional] ?Attend QSAS-CGP Workshop (6000 QR, 3 days, register onhttp://gord.webnova.ca/ )

Register or CGP exam (online, through Prometric)

Pass exam (4 hours, open book)

Note: CGP is a certification for individuals. Companies also needto register with GORD, and this can be done once at least oneemployee has become a CGP.
