TRANSCRIPT

2017 - 2018

From the winner of the 2013 Kennedy Center

American College Theatre Festival, comes a story about

friendship and the complex though essential role of women in wartime. Virginia

Hascall has left her home and fiancée to become a Women Airforce Service Pilot, and

do her part to help defeat the Axis powers in the Second World War. Through triumph and tragedy,

she and her sisters in flight suits learn as much about themselves as they do about airplanes. As the war rages over

there, the women form a sisterhood that cannot be broken, and Virginia must make a decision that will change

her life forever. With a cast of nine vibrant female characters, "Decision Height" offers a look into

an under recognized subset of American heroes and revises history into herstory.

Auditions are necessary for this ensemble and are open to MCC students. The band is composed of saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and rhythm sections. The band is now under the direction of MCC band director Jon Romero. Do not miss this opportunity to see a Meridian treasure. This performance is suitable for audiences of all ages.

Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. Peter Parnell’s new book embraces story theatre and features verbatim passages from Hugo’s gothic novel.

The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be "Out There," observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful gypsy, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her free spirit, though – the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the gypsies – and it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all.

A sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic. Audiences will be swept away by the magic of this truly unforgettable musical.

The

Wiz

of O

ZMeridian Community College and the Lauderdale County School District are celebrating ten years together producing a county-wide musical. Past shows have included: "The Wiz", "Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida," "Back To The 80’S : The Totally Awesome Musical," "Disco Inferno," "Guys And Dolls," "All Shook Up," "Disney’s Beauty and the Beast", "Carnival," and last year’s production of "Kiss Me, Kate!" This year’s production will be a culmination of that ten year partnership, as the Arts & Letters Series proudly presents "The Wizard Of Oz."

When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy is whisked away in her house to the magical land of Oz. She follows the Yellow Brick Road

toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and en route she meets a Scarecrow that needs a brain, a Tin Man missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. The wizard asks the group

to bring him the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West to earn his help.

This classic show includes fan favorites such as “Somewhere Over The Rainbow,” “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead,” “If I Only Had a Brain,” and

“Follow the Yellow Brick Road.” Based on both the book by L. Frank Baum and the MGM film of the same name, the "Wizard of Oz" has

delighted audiences for decades.

This show is produced by the Meridian Community College Fine Arts Division, and it will be performed by students

from the schools that comprise the Lauderdale County School District. This performance is suitable for

audiences of all ages.

The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers and Hammerstein hallmarks or originality, charm and elegance. Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s "Cinderella" was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams come true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as Fairy Godmother. As adapted for the stage, with a great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits. This Enchanted Edition is based on the 1997 teleplay.

This musical will be produced by the Meridian Community College Fine Arts Division. It is suitable for audiences of all ages.
