The Legislative Branch

• Article I of the Constitution established this branch and gave Congress the power

to MAKE LAWS.

• The legislative branch of government is made up of the Congress.

• Congress has two parts: • House of Representatives and Senate.

House of Representatives

• Has 435 members from all 50 states• 1 Representative in the House of

Representatives represents 500,000 people in a state: representation is based on population

• Each representative serves a 2 year term• Representatives must be at least 25 years

old, a U.S. citizen for at least 7 years, and a resident of the state where they are running for office
