Stewardship
In today’s Gospel, Jesus compares the beginning of God’s kingdom to a mustard seed. This ny seed, which fits in the palm of a hand, can grow to fi een feet with sprawling branches! Like the mustard seed, the Chris an community had a ny, seemingly insignificant beginning. The church, which began with about 120 followers, added three thousand people on Pentecost Day following the descent of the Holy Spirit. Since then, the number of Christ’s disciples has grown incalculably and con nues to grow throughout the world. Good stewards go about God’s business of “plan ng seeds” among all those whom they encounter. What will we do this week to add to God’s kingdom?

Into the Land of Carmel
A Weeklong Retreat in the Carmelite Tradi on July 15 – 20
The Carmelite tradi on began with a small group of Chris ans coming together in a valley on Mount Carmel in Israel in the early 1200’s. They were pilgrims who wanted to live on holy ground. It was their way of following Christ.
Life in the valley included an atmosphere of silence and solitude. The hermits came together for Eucharist, dialogue, and, eventually, the prayer of the church and meals. But the fundamental ac vity was a contempla ve a ending to God’s loving presence.
The Rule of Carmel structures an environment for today’s pilgrim. It encourages the seeker to live in a way he or she can be found by God. This retreat/seminar will reflect the life lived long ago on Mount Carmel, but with addi onal elements of instruc on in the tradi on.
With the saints of Carmel as our guides, we will explore the origins of Carmel, our living tradi on, and the nature of contempla on and prayer.
Full program rate includes lodging and meals: $425 Commuter program includes meals only: $225

The Master Storyteller
In today’s Gospel, Jesus is presented to us as the master storyteller. He loved to use parables as a tool for comparing one thing to something else. In most of his parables, Jesus revealed who God is by comparing God’s essence or ac ons with something familiar to his listeners. In the parable of the mustard seed, Jesus proclaims a marvelous and irrefutable truth. His small band of disciples, as insignificant as they may have felt, would one day produce a mighty kingdom whose growth was ini ated by God. The seeds of this kingdom were planted by God and it is God who will harvest the fruit brought forth from those seeds. The extent of the growth of God’s kingdom cannot be predicted. We must trust the work of the Master’s hand as we, the mustard plant, grow and grow.

Sunday, June 24 † Gospel of Luke 1: 57:-66, 80
Praying from Sunday to Sunday
When the me arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and rela ves heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her. When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they were going to call him Zechariah a er his father, but his mother said in reply, “No. He will be called John.” But they answered her, “There is no one among your rela ves who has this name.” So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, “John is his name,” and all were amazed. Immediately his mouth opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke blessing God. Then fear came upon all their neighbors, and all these ma ers were discussed throughout the hill country of Judea. All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, “What, then, will this child be?” For surely the hand of the Lord was with him. The child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the desert un l the day of his manifesta on to Israel.
