ART How to Draw Aussie Animals Bilby
The bilby is Australia’s answer to the Easter bunny.
Bilbo
1. Using a pencil, lightly draw an oval for Bilbo’s body and a circle for his head. 2. Draw two lines to connect
the head to the body and sketch a shape for the ear.
3. Draw a sausage shape as a guideline for Bilbo’s foot and copy the nose and jaw shapes.
The bilby, or rabbit–eared bandicoot, was once common in Australia but has now become an endangered species.
This beautiful marsupial has soft, blue–grey fur, a white belly and black tail with a bushy tip.
With its large ears and long pink snout, the bilby has an excellent sense of hearing and smell.
Why not buy a chocolate bilby instead of a bunny next Easter?

Happy Easter
4. Draw the guidelines for Bilbo’s back leg and for an arm.
5. Sketch Bilbo’s tail with a brushy end. Add his eye and another ear.
6. Add the other arm and leg and fi nish Bilbo by adding some detail to his face, ears, paws and tail. Erase your pencil guidelines.

Call me any name you like, just don’t call me fl ake!
Sharky
1. Using a pencil, draw a long egg shape. At the tail end draw two lines tapering to a point. At the other end draw a small circle.
2. Connect the circle to the oval with a line to make Sharky’s nose. Next, draw a curvy line to the bottom of the circle for its mouth.
Draw guidelines for the tail and two fi ns.
3. Continue to draw the fi ns and add a circle as a guide for the eye.
4. Go over the lines you need to fi nish Sharky with a felt-tip pen. Add pointy teeth, gill slits and detail the eye.
Erase pencil guidelines.

Trust me, I won’t bite
Change the shark by altering the angles of the shapes and adding an extra line for its open jaw.
And again...
Unlike other fi sh, sharks have cartilage instead of bones. Cartilage bends easily, a bit like your ear fl aps and tip of your nose. This means that the shark’s body is lighter and can bend easily as it twists and turns in pursuit of its prey.
Despite the stories you may hear, most sharks are usually not a threat to people.
Sharks have been hunted and trapped by people for many years and some types of sharks are now considered to be endangered.
