The Painting of the SerenissimaFrom the origins to the Settecento
Founded from the lagoon settlements of refugees from the Veneto and Friuli
fleeing from the barbarian raids of the early Middle Ages, protected toward the
mainland by the impenetrable lagoon, open to the sea to favor the development
of trade with the Orient, Venice dominated the Mediterranean for at least 500
years, from the 1300s to the 1700s.
This book by Pedrocco, a renowned specialist on Venetian art and director of
the Museo del Settecento in Venice, examines the golden centuries of Venetian
painting: it starts with Paolo Veneziano, who developed a style of painting
balanced between the Byzantine tradition and the Gothic language that held
sway in Europe; then continues with Bellini, Giorgione, Titian and the masters
who spread the language of the Venetian school to the European courts;
and concludes in the Settecento, at the height of the wealth and glory of the
Serenissima, with Tiepolo, Longhi and the Vedutists.
The text is accompanied by fine illustrations showing the works held in
Venetian museums, churches and palaces, without overlooking the paintings
that have migrated, over time, to foreign museums.

Nicolas PoussinCatalogue raisonné of the Paintings
Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665) is one of the artists most thoroughly studied
in the history of painting. His bibliography is boundless, and his work – held
in museums and private collections all over the world – requires the kind of
updated documentation no one could have accomplished better than Pierre
Rosenberg. Author of the Catalogue raisonné of the drawings of Poussin in
1997, and a former director of the Louvre – the museum that holds the world’s
largest collection of Poussin’s works – he has studied this painter for years, and
recently curated an exhibition of great international impact (Bilbao, New York
2007/2008).
The project by Electa calls for a classic structure, with an introductory essay
and the catalogue of 250 works, accompanied by historical-critical profiles,
preparatory drawings and comparisons.
Appendices include the catalogue of the lost works, the rejected works, the
bibliography and indices.

Life in Pompeii
On the 24th August 79 A.D. Pompeii perished. On that day Vesuvius erupted
an enormous quantity of lapilli, lava and poisonous gas, which destroyed the
city forever, together with its neighbours: Herculaneum, Stabiae and Oplontis.
The eruption suddenly covered the whole city – houses and monuments,
streets, civil and religious buildings, - and its people with lava and ash, suddlenly
stopping life but also conserving everything as it was. This unique situation
makes it possibile today to study how daily life used to be in Pompeii. The
authors explain in this book not only how the city of Pompeii looked like in
Antiquity, but they also reconstruct all different aspects of life of pompeian
people – private life, social habits, economic rules, politics, religious beliefs –
through the observation of archaeological finds, material culture, architectural
traces and art. The structure they chose for the book is not the traditional
topographical one, but a trasversal, thematic one.
The iconography of the archeological site is completed by plans of the main
monuments and the paintings, mosaics and scultpures of the Archaeological
Museum of Naples.

Roman Art
The history of Rome, nerve center of the ancient world, capital of a vast
empire from the Atlantic to the Balkans, from Britannia to North Africa, is the
thread that links this wide repertoire of Roman Art.
The volume is organized in chronological chapters, from the Republic to
the Empire to its weakening under the threat of barbarian invasions and the
resulting fall of the Western Roman Empire. It covers Rome, the first Italian
conquests, the expansion in Europe, all the way to the creation of the provinces.
With 400 illustrations, each with precise comments by the author, the book
traces a complete, spectacular overview of the arts: painting, sculpture,
mosaics, architecture, bronzes and goldsmithery.

Great Atlas of the Middle Ages
The arts and crafts: everything about the middle ages in Europe in a new
atlas illustrating a fascinating time full of social, historical and artistic change.
From monasticism to the CrU.S.A.des, the new communes, the Gothic
cathedrals, the illuminated codexes, goldsmithery, mosaics, Giotto’s pictorial
innovation, Rome, Venice and the northern capitals – the Middle Ages have
always been open to discovery and exploration, rich in mystery, symbols and
seismic changes and discoveries. Standard two-page atlas spreads explore
themes linked to the European Middle Ages providing historical information,
margin notes and explanatory illustrations.
The foreword defines the timeframe of the Western Middle Ages and gives a
quick overview of the 5th-10th centuries before zooming in on the Romanesque
and Gothic styles, examining the arts, artists, works and techniques that were in
vogue in Europe well into the 15th century.
The religious and secular seats, the architects and skilled workers,
Romanesque masterpieces such as Canterbury and the Abbey of Saint-Pierre
in Moissac, the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio in Milan and the Palatine Chapel in
Palermo, plus the outstanding Gothic works in Chartres, Strasbourg, Cologne
and Parma in themed monographs that offer a careful and detailed focus plus a
host of illustrations.

The Nude in Art History
Athletes, gods and goddesses, ordinary men and women, martyrs and
prostitutes: the nude, supine or standing, seated or dancing, has appeared
throughout the history of art as a fundamental way of depicting mankind.
From the perfection of the Greek kouroi, the personification in sculpture
of the ideal of beauty (and goodness) of the Classical world, to the erotic
poses in the photographs of Wilhelm Von Gloeden and, much later, of Robert
Mapplethorpe, throughout the history of art, the nude has always assumed the
forms of the period in which it is depicted.
From the Greek model when nudity was synonymous with beauty and
purity, to times of censorship, for example, the Counter-Reformation, which
covered up the private parts painted by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel,
and the scandals in 19th-century France, caused by the shameless nudes of
Manet and Courbet, the depiction of the nude has evolved in terms of value,
of iconography (sometimes sacred, sometimes profane), of the deepest of
meanings.
The book is a journey to examine the symbolic and cultural universe in which
the human body has been represented. The journey through the centuries is
divided into chapters and sections which are either chronological or based on
particular themes: anatomy, poses, subjects and meanings. They are illustrated
by sculptures and paintings, many of which date from Classical Antiquity.

Oceania
Highly diverse cultures, which to our unfamiliar eyes seem very similar, make
up the map of the culture and civilization of Oceania.
“Oceania consists of a sea of islands and their inhabitants…
It was people from the continent, that is to say, Europeans who, when they
reached the Pacific, having traveled across immense expanses of ocean, first
brought back the vision of islands in a far-off sea. From this point of view, the
islands are tiny remote dots in a vast ocean.”
The words of Epeli Hau’ofa introduce the expeditions of Western explorers,
their voyages, the colonial influences and the seizing of land belonging to the
indigenous peoples of Oceania which took place between the 16th and 20th
centuries.
Starting from a historical perspective, with an introduction that covers the
most significant events which took place in the continent (subdivided into the
macro-regions of Australia and New Zealand, Micronesia, Melanesia, Polynesia,
a total of 14 states, some of which were formed very recently), the book tells the
story of the cultures and civilizations of which it is composed.
The book looks at how people live in each of the societies considered: from
religion to social and political organization, from the places where people live to
the subject of travel, resulting in a precise across-the- board view.
The book is outstanding from the point of view of its illustrations, which
comprise not only shots of manufacturing and craft skills but also historical
photographs documenting exploration at the beginning of last century, all of
which are being published in Italy for the first time.

Art Prints
The etchings of Dürer and Rembrandt, but also maps and anatomical
representations used in medicine, all the way to the works of Picasso and
American Pop Art: a historical overview offers an introduction to the birth and
evolution of printing as a tool of communication and the spread of culture in
books, a way of circulating art in reproductions of great paintings, and finally an
autonomous, original art form in its own right.
Over five centuries of history, printing has changed, taking on different
meanings and functions: a tool of research and reporting for explorers, a means
of protesting against injustice and immorality (as in the Caprices of Goya, for
example), a vehicle of scientific description, or of revolutionary intellectual
movements, as in the Enlightenment, a characteristic and promotional feature
of certain art movements, and above all a moment of very high artistic value.
The book, together with historical information, provides fundamental
technical indications to help enthusiasts and collectors to correctly evaluate
works and to find their way through the fascinating world of prints, which
represents the first and most accessible level of art collecting: an important
guide for the growing ranks of collectors.

CONTEMPORARY ARTCONTEMPORARY ART HAS BEEN A MEDIA FOCUS FOR A number of years now: due to the sensational prices reached by artworks, the star status of artists, the opening of many museums around the world. Nevertheless, for most people contemporary art remains a mysterious, incomprehensible realm, a kind of unapproachable sector, exclusively for insiders. The aim of this series is to orient readers, helping them to understand the art scene today. A journey that starts with the Informal and moves on to Pop Art and Arte Povera, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, all the way to the present. The texts are clear and enjoyable, and are illustrated with many images.

HISTORY OF ARCHITECTUREA SERIES ON THE HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE INTENDED TO offer non-specialized readers the tools they need to understand the language and forms of architecture. Each title in the series is a complete book in itself, together forming a complete History of Architecture from the origins to the present. The series can also be reduced to eight volumes, from Romanesque to Contemporary. The books have an introduction of a general character, followed by thematic chapters organized in chronological order. Each chapter contains succinct sections on structural and formal characteristics, architectural typologies, techniques and materials, protagonists and main monuments, the most important cities, but also questions of urban planning and mobility or architectural typologies. Fine illustrations range from exterior and interior views of the most outstanding monuments to architectural details, decorations and technical drawings (plans and elevations, sections and siteplans), always accompanied by captions and descriptive information to guide readers, step by step, as they decode the images. Complete the volumes a glossary of the main architectural terms, a chronology of important historical facts, and indices.

Home Green Homearchitecture with low environmental impact
The book covers 40 projects for houses, most of them single-family units,
in different parts of the world, all good examples of ecological and sustainable
architecture. An overview of practical, extremely successful solutions, that can
be helpful to transform one’s own home into an ecocompatible dwelling.
In all the houses the focus on ecological themes is combined with a
comfortable, elegant style, in all the possible variations, from glamour to high-
tech, from cozy to urban.
Through a detailed itinerary divided in chapters based on criteria of
ecosustainability (solar energy, alternative and renewable energy sources,
energy savings, recycling of materials), many solutions are proposed that can
serve as inspiration, to begin to build a better world.
The book is printed on ecological paper and will be certified with the
“Impatto Zero” trademark created by Lifegate.

Tribute to the Garden
“The first garden is not Paradise, but Paradise is the metaphor of the
garden”. This book gathers a fine selection of gardens, on an international level,
to illustrate the various typologies that have emerged across the centuries,
expressions of man’s relationship with the territory and the environment, but
also of his overall worldview.
Looking through the images, spectacular gardens that seem like domestic
Edens give way to the large green spaces of palaces, or urban facilities like
Regent’s Park in London, or the Tiergarten of Berlin. Important landscape
designers like Russell Page, Peter Latz or Fernando Caruncho have come to
terms with the forms of tradition and gradually invented new styles, at times
oriented toward a new classicism, but always with a forceful contemporary
character.
There are also more recent examples, reflecting a new environmental
awareness and new respect for all the species that inhabit these magnificent
microcosms of green space.

The Invention of the Himalayas
Nothing on our entire planet can be compared to the Karakorum-Himalaya
topographic system. There, in a chaos of rocky precipices lined by frost, amidst
glaciers and deep valleys, stand the tallest mountains in the world.
Roberto Mantovani, an authoritative mountain historian, and Kurt Diemberger,
a protagonist of great mountaineering exploits in the Himalayas from the 1950s
to the 1980s, narrate the extraordinary tale of the discovery of the Himalayas,
the geographical-scientific exploration, the geopolitical face-off between Czarist
Russia and the British Empire, all the way to the great expeditions that continue
to make this one of the symbolic places of human adventure.
With the help of 250 period images, spectacular views and previously
unpublished photographs, the book narrates the history of Himalayan
exploration up to today, leaving also room for future developments: in fact at
the start of the third millennium, especially on the northern slopes of this great
mountain chain, vast territories remain to be explored.

Kurt Diemberger is the only living mountaineer to have climbed two previously
inviolate eight-thoU.S.A.nders. In 1957 he took part in the legendary expedition
conceived by Hermann Buhl, which led to the conquest of Broad Peak and the attempt
to ascend Chogolisa, where Buhl perished, an experience that changed Diemberger’s
life. He has continued his activity as a mountaineer and explorer, taking him to all the
corners of the globe, from Tibet to Nepal, the Himalayan eight-thoU.S.A.nders to the
Alps, Greenland to South America. A pioneer in the art of filming in the mountains, he
has constantly documented unrepeatable events in extreme conditions, and his films
have won many prizes.
Roberto Mantovani, journalist, works in the field of the history of mountain climbing and
Alpine and Himalayan culture, studying expeditions to distant mountains as well. He has
worked at the Cisdae (Centro italiano studio e documentazione alpinismo extraeuropeo),
the National Mountain Museum, and written many books on these themes.
DolomitesA Heritage for Humanity
The Dolomites are an extremely particular mountain ecosystem in
geological and morphological terms, recently designated as part of the
Heritage of Humanity by Unesco in recognition of the unique character of this
environment, and to encourage the conservation of its natural beauty.
Reinhold Messner, who was born and raised in these mountains and
has always been their ambassador in the world, coordinates this ambitious
publication that gathers the contributions of a range of different authors: as a
direct witness, he narrates and illustrates the specificities of this territory that
extends from Val Pusteria to Isarco, from Brenta to Cadore.
Thanks to a series of photographs made specially for this volume, readers
can admire the spires of the «pale mountains» from unusual angles that reveal
their rugged forms, the unique rocky peaks that have attracted travelers since
the Renaissance. Places that have fascinated poets and writers, from Hugo von
Hofmannstahl to Dino Buzzati.
The book describes the geology, the native flora and fauna, the traditions
of local populations. Starting with the charm of the valleys, the villages and the
high refuges, it examines the progressive growth of tourism in the territory,
retracing the history of mountaineering in the Dolomites. A contribution to
help make these mountains a symbol of the relatonship between man and an
environment that must be cherished and respected.

Reinhold Messner is considered one of the greatest mountain climbers of all time.
He was the first to conquer Everest without oxygen, and to climb all 14 of the peaks
over 8000 meters. In his 3500 expeditions he has completed about 100 first ascents,
always testing his own limits and those of nature, without artificial means, and
in extreme conditions. He is the author of over 50 publications, which have been
translated into many languages.

Wrecks and Treasures
Few people have been able to explore the seabeds of the world to document
the secrets hidden in the sunken ships and wrecks. Folco Quilici, the pioneer
of underwater exploration, has done just that. The book is based on the
author’s personal experiences, and describes his most important underwater
expeditions, offering a fascinating diary of explorations around the world.
Thanks to many vivid, high-quality images, the volume describes the main
finds in the Mediterranean, which contains archaeological evidence from the
Phoenicians to the Middle Ages, unveiling the secrets of ancient civilizations.
But the explorations also take place in the Caribbean, where the search for gold
in the colonial era led to unforgettable chapters of history: sunken galleons,
heroes and adventurers bent on claiming the Aztec, Maya and Inca treasure.
But the discussion does not focus only on the wonders of the deep: because
while wrecks seem to “live” at the bottom of the sea, becoming extraordinary
environments where nature manages to cover up and conceal something
dead with a colorful, gorgeous raiment of life, we should not forget the dangers
connected with eco-piracy and the huge quantities of metal, paints, petroleum,
ammunition and weapons that lie at the bottom of the sea, and represent risks
for our health and that of the planet.

Encyclopédie by Diderot et d’AlembertAll the Plates
The Encyclopédie or Reasoned Dictionary of Sciences, Arts and Trades is still
considered the secular bible of the age of Enlightenment. Denis Diderot, the
eccentric philosopher and writer, directed it for eleven years, from 1746 to 1757,
with the mathematician Jean-Baptiste Le Rond d’Alembert, and then comple-
ted it on his own, creating 28 volumes (17 of text, 11 of illustrations) published
in 1772, and 7 supplementary volumes (4 of text, 2 of indices) in 1776-80: an
undertaking that involved dozens of contributors and thoU.S.A.nds of workers,
producing 18,000 pages and printing 4250 copies (a great success at the
time), becoming a true monument of the technological, artistic and scientific
knowledge of the Enlightenment.
The present publication contains all of the over 2700 plates that illustrated
the great work. This vast, fascinating complex of illustrations is organized by
subject, gathered in five large thematic sections, each with its own essays for
orientation.
The images are accompanied by an enormous quantity of information and
historical facts to help readers understand the cultural and social context in
which this great work was made, “the most extraordinary utopia of a century
that produced many”, and one of the most timely components of the rich lega-
cy of the 1700s.

Mafia
The word ‘mafia’ first appears in a written text in 1863. But it was not until
thirty years later that the existence of this crime organization became well
known all over Italy and then in the rest of the world. The dramatic event that
led to this renown was the murder of Emanuele Notarbartolo, a man of honor
stabbed to death because he was about to reveal the connections between
political power and the mafia, in 1893.
This episode is the starting point of the book, because it marks the
beginning of the modern history of Cosa Nostra, involving the flow of migration,
mainly toward the United States, in two major waves, from 1876 to 1915, and
then between 1920 and 1929. Sicilian Cosa Nostra, American Cosa Nostra, two
clearly separate structures, but in continuous dialogue.
This photographic history, the first ever made, starts at the origins and
explores the scenarios and leading personalities of the evolution of the mafia
on both sides of the ocean, and the events that brought the two organizations –
the Italian and the American – together, like the liberation of the Italian territory
during World War II, and more recently the international operations known as
the “Pizza Connection” and “Old Bridge”.
A complete history in which narrative parts, tracing the evolution of the
phenomenon, alternate with captions that describe the men and the events,
illustrated with images.

The Lost Empire
On 9 November 1989 the Berlin wall fell. It was the end of the Cold War and the
Soviet Union. It was the end of an era. The beginning of the end can be set in 1979,
the year of the invasion of Afghanistan by the Red Army. This is where the book
starts, from the moment of change that can be found in 1979-80, in a sequence
of events filled with consequences for the fate of the empire: the first visit of Pope
Wojtyla to Poland, the death of Tito leading to the disruption of the balance in the
Balkans, all while Moscow was preparing to host its first Olympic Games.
The story then continues with the era of Gorbaciov, whose perestrojka
launched a period of transformation, opening and political-cultural ferment.
The main result of this period was the end of the Cold War and the halting of the
arms race between the USA and the USSR.
The book then covers the turbulent time of Yeltsin, a period of decline, and
concludes with a look at Russia today, which in spite of many contradictions has
rediscovered unity and pride.
The images of a great photojournalist who has concentrated, throughout
his career, on themes connected with the countries behind the former Iron
Curtain, document the life of the last years of the USSR, bearing witness to the
processes that led to the end of an empire and the birth of the new Russia.
The 250 images provide an authentic, never banal portrait of Soviet and
Russian reality, accompanied by captions and comments added by journalists.

Set in Venice
Set in Venice is a volume about the most relevant and significant motion
pictures filmed in Venice. The extraordinary beauty and absolute peculiarity
of the city have made it during the past century the perfect location for any
possible situation and setting. Together with Rome, Venice is the Italian city
most linked to the art of filmmaking, not only because it hosts the oldest film
festival in the world but because on its “calli” and waters the most incredible
chasings have taken place, eternal love knots have been tied and romantic
songs have been sung. Venice is a timeless city.
The volume would like to reach moviegoers, cinema lovers and Venice
admirers with information, curiosities, quotes, anecdotes by directors, actors,
producers, art directors and members of the crew who have actually worked
on the Venetian sets and have lived the city. But the most relevant part of the
book will be made of images, from the most recent to the really past sets. A
rich photographic gallery, inedited portraits, off sets, backstage, locations, from
Death in Venice to Casino Royale 2007, to show the extraordinary task to bring
a crew, costumes, tools and cameras on the waters and streets of the most
special place in the world.

Hollywood on the Tiber
The years when the great American film-stars came to Rome, life in the cafés,
the paparazzi and one of the world’s great film-production centers: a flashback
composed of images, testimonials and interviews in a book full of appeal.
When the long night of prohibitionism imposed by the Fascist regime with
regard to American films was over, Cinecittà arose from the ashes of war and
shone throughout the ‘sixties with a new splendor. This unique, unrepeatable
moment was both the cause and effect of the presence of the great American
film companies which, attracted to Rome by its beauty and the low production
costs, decided to use it as the setting for many great films: blockbusters (like
Cleopatra) and romantic comedies.
Those were the years when Louis Armstrong performed with his orchestra
in Botta e Risposta (Tit for Tat) by Mario Soldati, Orson Welles shared the stage
with Mario Cipriani… Hollywood on the Tiber is America close up, very close
indeed, with its stars patronizing our cafés, participating in Italian films and that
dolce vita (sweet life) which was to become bitter nostalgia in the ‘seventies.
The book fully reflects this climate and alternates citical texts with
interviews, conducted by Marco Grossi, with some of the stars of the period, like
Elsa Martinelli, Lando Buzzanca and Franco Interlenghi.
But what really describes the charm of Hollywood on the Tiber, more
poignantly than the words, are the illustrations and photographs which succeed
in conjuring up the atmosphere and the magic of that unrepeatable moment.

StoraroWriting with lights
A summary of the art of film photography and a lesson behind the scenes:
the new book by Vittorio Storaro, three times Oscar winner, is a summary of the
work of a great artist of the cinema.
Storaro says “Writing with light isn’t just a book, it’s a lifelong project, to try
and understand how much philosophers, painters and scientists all over the
world have achieved with their research into the mystery of vision. It’s a set of
articles and images, the result of about 30 years of experience, divided into
three main parts, containing a single reasoning for life”.
Today, the new single-volume edition of his trilogy about light, colors and the
elements (which have always constituted the basis for his research), contains
Storaro’s reflections about his career in cinematography, after more than 30
years’ experience, including accounts of what happens behind the scenes, the
secrets and the magic of the man who is probably the world’s most important
cinematographer.
The new publication comes with a DVD, a real treat, a tribute from the
master who accompanies us behind the sets, explains ‘live’ the tricks of the
trade and explains how he incorporates inspiration drawn from the great
masters of Italian art in his films. It also offers his spectators a real lesson on
film-making, interviews with key players (actors and film directors) and clips
from his films.

won three Oscars for the best cinematography: Apocalypse Now

War
Great battles portrayed by the cinema in memorable sequences like those
of Platoon, The Thin Red Line or Saving Private Ryan. The Great War, World War
II, then the Vietnam War which inspired film directors like Oliver Stone, Stanley
Kubrick, Steven Spielberg and Brian De Palma.
War films may include military battles but they may also portray the chaos
and despair of civilian life under siege. From fictional accounts to biographical
and historical reconstructions, sometimes a mixture of the two, this genre
has a wide audience of fans to whom this book is dedicated. The best films,
topics and specific characteristics are described in the detailed text, along with
images and film posters. It includes the Italian voices of actor-director Mario
Monicelli, Francesco Rosi and the great Roberto Rossellini who directed actress
Anna Magnani in such masterpieces as Rome, Open City.
A book for war movie enthusiasts, a signed compendium combining
criticism with images, on an ever-popular cinema genre with strong impact.

Italian Haute CuisineGreat Italian Chefs interpret Regional Cuisine
It is a well-known fact that Italy contains a great variety of local cuisines,
based on unique resources of typical raw materials available in every indi-
vidual territorial context. In recent years the gastronomic situation in the
country has broken free of the rather stereotypal image that has plagued it
since the postwar era: a new generation of chefs has contributed to update
and alter the frame of reference, while maintaining the vital characteristic of
authenticity.
This volume presents 17 of the most qualified chefs on today’s haute
cuisine scene in Italy, a selection based on criteria of excellence, to over a true
overview of the state of the art in this sector. Each chef briefly narrates his
background and experience, explaining his approach to the culinary arts and
proposing two menus, one based on tradition, the other on creative innova-
tion. The result is a range of proposals at a very high level, full of unique flavors
and images.
A fine collection of 200 recipes, illustrated with evocative images, revealing
the new frontiers of Italian haute cuisine. An inspiration for all lovers of fine
dining.

Alfa RomeoRacing Heart
Alfa Romeo is a brand that has stood out since its founding for technologi-
cal innovation and design, becoming a synonym for sporting performance and
elegance appreciated all over the world.
This book, created in collaboration with Alfa Romeo for the company’s
centennial, retraces the history of the brand across one century of existence,
including the sports cars and roadsters that have made motoring history, with
memorable achievements in the world of racing.
A thorough introduction provides a complete summary of the growth and di-
versification of the company in the fields of production of racing cars and mass-
market automobiles: a strategy that has combined victories on the track with a
vivid approach to communications to create a strong identity for the brand.
The ten chapters focus on the world of racing, from the Mille Miglia to the
GP, and the models that have triumphed in the most important competitions.
The vivid illustrations show the protagonists of racing and the most signifi-
cant episodes, but also the social context and the products that have formed
the history of the brand and won the hearts of Alfa enthusiasts around the
world. Ample coverage is provided, in this context, of the most important road
models, from the Giulia to the Duetto, the Alfetta to the latest model for 2010,
the new Giulietta.
At the end of each chapter a refined photographic portfolio celebrates the
car that is the symbol of each period, from the 24 Hp of 1910 to the recent 156
WTCC, accompanied by a short technical description.
The volume also includes a time-line of all the models produced by Alfa Ro-
meo, and a listing of the most important victories in the world of racing.

FerrariAll the Road Models from 1947 to the Present
This complete work illustrates the Ferrari production of road cars from 1947
to the present. Thanks to the fine photographs, over 60 models are shown in
great detail, in terms of their structural and mechanical parts and their design
solutions. The texts explain, in terms that can be understood by the general
public, every characteristic and every secret of the individual cars, with precise
technical profiles on specifications and performance.
The models are subdivided into five categories: from the 12-cylinder front-
engine models, the first and most traditional Ferrari road cars, considered a
symbol of the Maranello-based company, to the extreme sports models, the
epitome of technology and performance, that have always been a part of the
output of the “Cavallino Rampante”; there are also the fascinating Spiders, or
rear-engine sedans, the 2+2 models and the coupés of the America series,
which boosted the prestige of Ferrari overseas.
A unique publication, thanks to its spectacular images and wealth of
information, making it a point of reference for automobile lovers and collectors,
and a tribute to the creative and entrepreneurial capacities of Enzo Ferrari and
the House of Maranello.

Yacht Clubs
The history of yachting starts in the second half of the 1600s, but it was
not until the 1700s that the first yacht club was formed, the first association to
gather a group of recreational sailing enthusiasts. Since then the growth and
spread of these true institutions has been continuous. First in England and
the British colonies, then in the rest of the world, yacht clubs have played an
increasingly vital role in the spread of sailing, while at the same time becoming
the bastions of an unmistakable way of life.
This volume examines the world’s most important yacht clubs, from the
first to be founded – the Royal Cork Yacht Club – to the prestigious associates
that have stood out in the greatest sailing competition, the America’s Cup.
It contains images of places rich in nautical tradition, full of trophies and
memorabilia, like the New York Yacht Club, the Société Nautique de Genève, the
Royal Yacht Squadron, the Yacht Club de France, the Royal New Zealand Yacht
Squadron. Places whose members have often included legendary personalities,
the protagonists of important regattas, with boats that have become the very
symbols of yachting.
