J. L. Raymond Research Library The Waukegan Historical Society research collections are located in Lilac Cottagein the Bowen Heritage Circle, 1911 N. Sheridan Road, Bowen Park. Lilac Cottage Rentals1911 N. Sheridan Road- Bowen Park

Are you looking for a bride’s room prior to your wedding in the Bowen ParkFormal Garden? Are you interested in renting a space for a group of 24 for abridal or baby shower? Amenities include coffee makers, punch bowl and ladle, stove, refrigeratorand microwave. The main room at Lilac has a wonderful sun porch thatoverlooks beautiful Bowen Park. Follow the story of two couples before, during, and after WWI. Homer Dahringer and Ruth Besley start their courtship while attending Waukegan High School. Homer joined an Army flying squadron in WWI. Elizabeth Tarver, growing up in Waukegan in a prominent African American family, started correspondence with Westley Dyer, who served as a corporal in the Army.

Jack Benny Center for the Arts offers lessons in piano, traditional violin, viola, cello,string bass, voice, guitar, woodwinds, brass, dulcimer and ukulele. Arrangements forlessons are scheduled individually and price for one half hour lesson is $16-23 dependent on the instructor. Jack Benny Center for the Arts offers five sessions ofeight-week lessons each year. Please call the Center at 847-360-4740 for dates,times, and availability of lessons. Jack Benny Center does not rent instruments orsell music books. Students must be able to practice lessons on a daily basis, havethe recommended music book and instrument. Some group lessons may need tobe combined to meet minimum registration. Students are called one week beforelessons if class has not met its minimum.

Scholarships Generous grants, endowments and memorial funds as well as fundraising efforts ofcommunity organizations have allowed the Center to provide partial scholarships toa limited number of students in art, theatre, dance, and music. If you are interestedin providing funds for the scholarship program, starting a memorial scholarshipfund or are in need of a scholarship, please contact the Center at 847-360-4740 forassistance. Artwork/poem should be affixed to poster board or foam board and mustbe able to be clipped to the display board with a bulldog clip and not belarger than 9 x 12. Poetry is limited to one side of a single page. Pleasesubmit your work no later than 30 days before the designated showing.Any artwork for sale must be noted with price and contact person(parent or guardian for students under 18 years of age). Not all artwork/poetry will be displayed, as space is limited. Forms are available online.
