Inside this issue:
Ardross
Primary News A Message from the Principal
Mathletics and Maths Buddy. Once a decision has
been made, the school will be registering students to
have access from home. I thank the P&C for their
tireless efforts and look forward to working with
them again in 2012.
HOT WEATHER POLICY
I have had several parent queries with regards to a
hot weather policy. We do not have a hot weather
policy, but instead have a “Sun Protection Policy”
which has now been placed on our website for
parent information. Our sun protection policy has
been adopted to ensure that all staff and students
are protected from skin damage caused by UV
radiation from the sun. This policy is to be
implemented throughout the year, but with
particular emphasis from the beginning of
September through to the end of May. The policy
will be presented to the School Board this year for
review as per the policy review schedule. In the
meantime, all staff have been made aware of the
policy and will implement it as far as practicable.
Should you have any queries about our processes
please don’t hesitate to contact me.
BUS TRANSPORT
Another issue recently raised with me is the use of
seatbelts on buses when students go on excursions.
As it is not mandatory for all schools buses to be
fitted with seatbelts, staff book buses within the
Department of Education Excursions Policy and
Guidelines. We usually use only a couple of bus
companies who provide us with competitive quotes
and the appropriate level of insurance. Some of
these buses are equipped with seatbelts, however
this does force up the price of excursions, especially
for longer trips. Should travelling on a bus without
seatbelts be an issue, you are more than welcome to
discuss private transport arrangements with the
classroom teacher.
PARENT INFORMATION BOOKLET 2012
The updated Parent Information Booklet for 2012 is
now on line and can be found on our website. It is
an A-Z listing of many day to day operations within
our school and should be consulted when you are
not sure or require more information. Please read
the booklet carefully and consult when necessary.
WHOLE SCHOOL PHOTO
The whole school photo to be displayed in the front
office will be taken next Tuesday, 28 February. It is
important that all students from Pre Primary to
Year 7 come in the appropriate school uniform.
Students will not be permitted to wear their faction
shirt as it is not a sport day. Your cooperation with
appropriate uniform is most appreciated.
Greetings to staff, students, parents and community
members and welcome to this edition of the school
newsletter. It continues to be a very smooth start to
the year with all classes now in to their teaching and
learning program.
NEWSLETTER COMMUNICATION
The newsletter is the major form of communication
between school and home and provides information on
upcoming events, school policies and processes and
community news. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT
PARENTS READ THE NEWSLETTER EVERY
FORTNIGHT to ensure that communication levels
are high. Mr Hill regularly reviews and updates our
contacts list. As of today we have 248 registered
families who receive the newsletter online with some
of those families receiving newsletters, former
families who would like to continue receiving our
newsletter and approximately 30 families request a
hard copy due to technology difficulties. We have 318
family representatives which means we have over 40
families or 13% not receiving the appropriate informa-
tion. Last fortnight’s newsletter was provided in hard
copy to all families to ensure that the process of
receiving newsletters on line was understood, or to
make a request through the front office to receive a
hard copy. If you have not registered to receive
notification the newsletter is available you can go to
www.ardrossps.wa.edu.au/ and register online in the
newsletter section. I will be following up with Mr Hill
this week to ensure that all families are receiving the
newsletter either online or as a hard copy. Parents
who are not appearing on either list will be notified.
P&C AGM
The P&C Annual General Meeting was held last
Monday evening. It was great to see some new faces
in attendance. It was also pleasing that the P&C was
able to fill all of their positions for the 2012 year.
Congratulations to:
President - Lee Fromant
Vice President - Cornelia Major
Secretary - Claire Greenwell
Treasurer - Alan Mackenzie
Executive - Jenny Duffield
- Bruce Willett
- Jessica Williams
School Board - Bruce Willett
The committees for the canteen, uniform shop and
environment were almost fully subscribed as well!
Thank you to all members of our P&C who have
volunteered to assist with the 2012 school year. The
P&C have committed approximately $45000 this year
to compliment the teaching and learning programs, as
well as the continuation of the ground beautification
program. The first part of these funds were used by
Mr Macmillan to provide every student from Pre
Primary to Year 7 Scitech membership. Class
teachers are presently booking their visits to Scitech
to support their programs. At tonight’s staff meeting
staff will be reviewing home maths programs such as

PARENT / TEACHER INFORMATION SESSIONS
All teachers will be holding Parent Information Sessions during
Weeks 4 and 5. The purpose of these meetings is to outline to
parents the teaching and learning programs planned, together
with organisational structures used in the room. Teachers will
discuss Curriculum, Behaviour Management, Homework,
Communication and other day to day operations of the class.
These meetings are not designed to allow time for
parent/teacher interviews, however these could be scheduled at
a later date. Staff have been asked to plan for a 30 minute time
and will communicate with you the planned meeting time.
Parents are strongly encouraged to attend.
Have a great week.

STUDENT LEADERS
Nominations, preferences, speeches and voting for the roles of
Student Councillors, Faction Captains or Vice Captains and

students’ written and oral persuasive texts was extremely
pleasing. At Ardross all Year 7 students take on authentic

communication and interpersonal skills, show initiative and
self manage their rosters and responsibilities. We wish them
well in their new roles and appreciate their work. Here are our
