  • Acknowledgement I would like to express my greatest appreciation to my lecturer Mr. Angus Lee Ching Hua

    and Mr.Keith Tan Kay Hin, the instructors for this internship training for giving me this

    opportunity to expose myself in the construction industry \ to gain working experiences that

    could not be taught in any of the classes in university. I am also grateful to Ms. Indrani, the

    lecturer in charge for my internship for her dedication to make sure every student is getting good

    training. She helped me out during my internship by giving me feedback and tips for all my

    questions concerning my internship. She also wanted us to learn more and strive for better to

    gain more experience during this internship period.

    Besides that, I would like to give my utmost gratitude to my colleagues for sharing and

    spending their time teaching and guiding me throughout this two months of internship training. I

    am grateful to have them to provide me a friendly working environment. All of them were well

    knowledgeable in their own specialties I feel honoured to work alongside with these

    professionals.

    Last but not least, a big appreciation to Ms.Pei Fong Wan, the director of WN Atelier Sdn

    Bhd and also Ar. Ng Ping Ping, Principal of Ping Ng Architect for giving me a chance and

    opportunity to work in this company in order to complete my university requirement of having a

    two-month internship. It was a pleasant experience working in the architecture firm and I am

    looking forward to going back after I graduate.

  • Introduction

    Ping Ng Architect and WN Atelier Sdn Bhd are two companies working together as

    partners who provide architecture and interior consultancy of various building design to help

    clients to meet their desired aesthetic and functional spaces. It is based in Petaling Jaya,

    Selangor.

    WN Atelier is managed under the same company as Ping Ng Architect. Both of these

    companies worked well together to create a better, combined solution and experience that

    benefits their client.

    Basically, WN Atelier worked more towards the interior design and Ping Ng Architect

    worked more to the structure and facade works. Both of these companies consist of

    approximately 70% residential and 30% commercial work.

  • Report During the first week working in W.N. Atelier, I have been assigned to the project C2P2

    sales gallery and show unit which is located at Bandar Nilai Utama, Mukim Labu, Daerah

    Seremban. (Refer to Project Title 1) This show unit is Temporary building house scheme for

    512 unit apartment development services 23 floors. My role in this project is sketching,

    rendering, 3D modelling, preparing architectural drawings, prepare tender documents, and

    prepare presentation drawings and also presentation boards. Sketching, rendering, 3D modelling

    is basically the first phase of schematic design. (Refer to Diagram 1) The plans have been

    changing throughout the week to meet the client needs. (Refer to appendix 1.1) I have done

    many changes of the faade of the building and also to the circulation of the site itself. I was also

    given to design the guard house to be proposed to the client. I had made research of a few guard

    house design and also looking through some magazines and books for ideas. (Refer to appendix

    1.2) I learnt many things while designing the show unit and have also improved my Sketch up

    and rendering skills with the programme v-ray. I had also observed some building by-law and set

    back that need to be followed as a guideline for the building to be approved. On the other hand, I

    had also done architectural drawings which are required to be summit for approval. An

    architectural drawing falls under second phase of design development. (Refer to table 1) The

    design development documents that were prepared consists of drawings and specifications to

    establish size and character of the project including structural, mechanical and electrical systems,

    materials and other appropriate building elements for the clients approval such as plan, elevation

    and section of the unit. In addition, I had also done some detailed drawings for the show unit

    such as pond detailing, groove line detailing and also guard house detailing. I have learned that

    detailed drawing is a very important part in design to show our design in full and to be able to

    help in construction and understand a better picture of how it looks. (Refer to appendix 1.3)

    These are tender drawing which all falls under phase three contract documentation stage which

    are prepared and summited to contractor for costing. Besides, I had also done presentation boards

    for proposal of interior of C2P2 show unit. (Refer to appendix 1.5) Conclusion, I learned a lot

    from this project from stage 1 Schematic Design to stage 3 Contract Documentation.

    On the second project C2P2 service apartment is a 23 floors service apartment consist of

    two block with 256 units each, 3 floors of car parks, 2 units of shops, 1 guard house, 1 swimming

    pool and 1 club house. It is located at LOT 19429, BANDAR NILAI UTAMA,MUKIM

    LABU,DAERAH SEREMBAN, NEGERI SEMBILAN DARUL KHUSUS. My role in this

    project is I had done some building plan drawings and also some detailed drawings which were

    required for submission. In B.P. I had done plan colouring and ceiling colouring which I learned

    that types of colours used is very important because each colour I hatch have their own

    meanings. (Refer to appendix 2.1) On the other hand, I had also done some detailing for step,

    OKU ramp and toilet with the help of some samples and coordinate from Nurhidayah Sarulah.

    (Refer to appendix 2.2) Conclusion, I learned that building plan is in stage 2 design

  • development to be submitted to building department for approval whereas detailed drawings are

    in the contract documentation stage for tender drawings. (Refer to Diagram 1)

    The third project I done is the cluster house which has 64 units of two and a half storey

    cluster house and 10 units of semi-detached house. My role and responsibilities in this project is

    to complete its 3D model and rendering for client, colour plan and elevation for building plan

    submission and detail drawings for tender. In 3D modelling I have given to design the faade of

    the house for schematic design. I refer to the material library in the office to give me some ideas

    and design of different cluster homes (Refer to appendix 3.1) This occurs in stage Schematic

    design of the first stage. (Refer to Diagram 1) On the other hand, in building plan I have

    learned that colour used need to follow accordingly by the building department. Number of

    copies needed for the building department depends on the authority. This occurs in stage Design

    development in permit application. (Refer to Diagram 1) I had learned that the set back from

    the front is 20 feet, 5 feet from the side and 10 feet from the back from observing the plan.

    (Refer to appendix 3.2) In addition, I had done detailed drawing for the gate and refuge

    chamber for the cluster house with the guidance of a sample which in the stage of contract

    documentation. (Refer to appendix 3.3)

    Besides, the forth project I had done is the Kasai Tecksee factory. The factory is under a

    renovation of its exterior and interior fir-out. The factory changes its entrance to the back of the

    factory because a fly-over bridge is built in front of its entrance and is block by it. During this

    project I had visited the site with 2 of my colleges and my supervisor Wan Pei Fong. We went to

    the site to measure the factory for accurate measuring for our drawings. (Refer to appendix 4.4)

    After visiting the site, I went back to the office to finish up the plan and elevation with the

    measurement we acquired. (Refer to appendix 4.1)After that, I had done some plan n elevation

    colouring ready to be established for co-ordinate, consultants, in stage contract documentation.

    (Refer to appendix 4.2 and 4.3) There were two type of proposal that I had done to be propose

    to the client for the renovation of the factory.

    Lastly, I had gone to three meeting for project Teratai Apartment located at Jalan

    Langkawi, Taman Teratai Mewah, Mkim Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. There were divided into 2

    types of meeting such as CCM meeting and SM meeting. CCM meeting usually is done in the

    meeting room whereas SM meeting is done on site. During the meeting, as an architect, we need

    to keep track of the project by recording minutes. (Refer to appendix 5.0)
