A new solution to an old problem Introduction
A recent evolution in artificial lift utilizes concentric coiledtubing and jet pump technology for gas well dewatering
operations. The implications of this novel adaptation arequite significant.
In the AquaLift™ Gas Well Dewatering System (patent
pending), the inner coiled tubing string is used to power adownhole jet pump, returning produced wellbore fluids andpower fluid up a concentric coiled tubing annulus through
to the surface production equipment. This system allowsfor consistent draw-down of the reservoir. Benefits include
"Dry Gas" flow performance and production characteristics.
Background
Jet pumps are a proven technology used in various well
configurations to artificially lift liquids from under-pressuredreservoirs. The principals are quite simple. Based on a
venturi effect, system fluid pressure is converted into ahigh-energy jet stream, creating low pressure at the pump
intake. Subsequently, the flow enters a profiled diffusersection which converts the jet kinetic energy into pressurewhich is harnessed to drive fluid to surface.
Taking this technology one step further, the AquaLift
process combines a miniature jet pump with concentriccoiled tubing which is run in gas wells. The well can then flow gas up the annulus between the AquaLift
string and the completion (which is not liquid-loaded).

Systems Features
A typical AquaLift system features the following: 1" x 1.75" - Concentric Coiled Tubing (CCT)
completion string• 1.75" AquaLift pump with surface-retrievable
carrier assembly• 30 or 60 HP surface pump package• level-controlled fluid separation and supply system• dual-string wellhead hanger• performance optimization via proprietary software
Production Benefits
The AquaLift system provides a number ofsignificant benefits that greatly improve gas
well production. These include:
1. Remove liquid load in gas productionflow stream:• Eliminate hydrostatic suppression,
slugging and production killing• Eliminate choking effects of
velocity strings• Higher draw down• "Nearly-dry" gas flow
2. De-water "frac wings"
3. Significantly increase recoverable reserves
