IAN RISELEY My Fellow Necklacites Time flies, and things change, but our life will remain deeply rooted in the memories you all have created in the year gone by. There are very few words, which can express our thanks, for your continuous love, warmth, excitement and energy all through the year gone by. First I would like to acknowledge and thank my entire Rotary family for their support and participation all through the year. No leader can succeed without his team, and I was truly blessed to get a team, which took on leadership and accomplished much more than what was asked. There were many stellar moments but the highlight of our year were Monday Meetings, fiery firesides. Many Rotarians, who went far and beyond, to ensure that we got some outstanding and successful personalities to our Monday meetings, getting our Rotarians to engage and attend in large numbers. Some memorable Mondays were with Smt. Jaya Row, Dr. Velumani, Photographer Atul Kasbekar, Director Feroz Abbas Khan, Politician Shri Shatrughan Sinhaji, Writer Harinder Sikka & many more. I would like to take a bow to thank all my Rotarians for their generous donation. Time flies, and things change, but our life will remain deeply rooted in the memories you all have created in the year gone by. There are very few words, which can express our thanks, for your continuous love, warmth, excitement and energy all through the year gone by.

First I would like to acknowledge and thank my entire Rotary family for their support and participation all through the year.

No leader can succeed without his team, and I was truly blessed to get a team, which took on leadership and accomplished much more than what was asked.

There were many stellar moments but the highlight of our year were Monday Meetings, fiery firesides. Many Rotarians, who went far and beyond, to ensure that we got some outstanding and successful personalities to our Monday meetings, getting our Rotarians to engage and attend in large numbers. Some memorable Mondays were with Smt. Jaya Row, Dr. Velumani, Photographer Atul Kasbekar, Director Feroz Abbas Khan, Politician Shri Shatrughan Sinhaji, Writer Harinder Sikka & many more.

I would like to take a bow to thank all my Rotarians for their generous donation. This year our giving was in excess of 4 crores and for this please give a round of applause to yourself for this success. I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of our project directors Rtn Nikunj Jhaverii & Rtn Sonali Sinha and the Miracle in Actions Committee.

As always this year too we had some unique spouse events, which included a Qawwali night, Night Horse Racing, the Musical Sound of Music, an evening with Kailash Kher & Karan Johar and a Treasure Hunt with a Twist, to name a few.

We also had two memorable trips to Chandigarh Parwanoo & Uzbekistan.

All through the year I was fortunate to have a very amiable, supportive Innerwheel President Paulomi Dhawan by my side.

I would also like to thank and recognise our very own Executive Secretary Ms. Methoo Surty, who was my link to the District for all formalities and for all communication to my fellow Rotarians & spouses.

I would like to specially acknowledge the efforts of my secretary Rtn. Apurva Shah, Sergeant-at-Arms Rtn Hiten Parikh, Rtn PP Chetan Mehra and advisor Rtn PP Sanjiv Mehta, for their continued support and guidance all through the year.

On Sunday, 10th June Rtn Kaushik Shah was installed as President of the Club for RY 2018-19 along with his Team at Crystal Room, Taj Mahal Hotel, Colaba. DG Rtn Shashi Sharma was the Chief Guest. The Installation Ceremony was followed by cocktails and dinner. It was a very well managed team effort. The Program was attended by 117 Members, 101 Spouses, 7 District Dignitaries & Spouses, 13 family & friends, 4 Miracle Presidents & Spouses taking the total to 242.

Seven new members were inducted – Rtn Abhilasha Rajoria, Rtn Bhavini Shah, Rtn Devang Jhaveri, Rtn Hiral Rajesh, Rtn Sanjay Shroff, Rtn Sonal Sheth and Rtn Swati Mehta.

Current and proposed PHS members as on 25th June - 38 existing and proposed 12 taking the total to 50 PHS Members for RY 2018 - 19.

FELLOWSHIP

On 7th April the seventh fireside was hosted by Rtn Rajesh & Vibhuti Desai at their residence. About 30 couples attended the fireside.

On 19th May Rtn PP Vinesh & Smita Davda hosted the eighth fireside at their residence. 38 couples attended the fireside.

We are indeed grateful to the Rotarians and Annes for graciously hosting the firesides.

On Sunday, 22nd April, 7.30 pm show - 172 Members and Spouses attended the "Sound of Music" Musical Performance at Royal Opera House.

On 8th April from 11 am to 4 pm RCMQN was represented by 10 Rotarians & Spouses at the District 3141 The Rotary Majors Event held at Tote, Mahalaxmi. The theme was Hawaiian. TRM is a networking fo rum of Major Donors to Rotar y Foundation from across our District. A Major Donor is one who contributes USD 10,000 in cash to Rotary Foundation.

DISTRICT EVENTS / JOINT MEETINGS / FELLOWSHIP TRIPAPR-JUN 2018

On 14th April from 7 pm onwards our Club co-hosted the District Leadership Seminar at CCI. It was followed by cocktails and dinner. The key note speaker was Mr Vishvavir Ahuja, MD & CEO of RBL Bank. Lead Club was RC of Bombay Peninsula. The Seminar was attended by Rtn PP Radhika Mehta, PE Rtn Kaushik Shah, Rtn Sonali Sinha, Rtn Asif Adiji and Rtn Nikhil Shah.

The District Training Assembly was held on Sunday, 22nd April from 8 am onwards and ending with high tea and entertainment program at 7 pm at ITC Grand Maratha. It was attended by PE Rtn Kaushik Shah, Rtn Hardik Kapadia and Rtn Devang Shah.

DISTRICT LEADERSHIP SEMINAR

On 23rd June our Club co-hosted District Shukriya Party at NSCI, Emperor Hall. The Club won the Diamond Club Award by the hands of DG Rtn Prafull Sharma.

GRANT MANAGEMENT SEMINAR

On 13th May from 8.30 am to 1.30 pm our Club co-hosted the Grant Management Seminar at Radio Club. Lead Club RC of Mumbai Downtown Sealand. The seminar covered types of grants, qualification process, what is sustainability, how to carry out need assessment, project planning and budgeting, how to apply for a global grant, using term gift and CSR funds for GG, project implementation, financial management, stewardship and reporting.

DISTRICT SHUKRIYA PARTY

From 27th April to 2nd May, an astounding 62 Members and Spouses went for the international fellowship trip to Uzbekistan which included Tashkent 3 nights, Bukhara 1 night and Samarkand 1 night. It was loads of fun.

The cost was Rs 76,000 + GST per person which included Airfare Delhi – Tashkent – Delhi, 3 nights at Hyatt Regency in Tashkent, 1 night at Asia Bukhara Hotel in Bukhara and 1 night in Asia Samarkand. Bukhara sightseeing included - Samani Mausoleum, Bolo Hauz Complex, Ark Fortress, Poli-Kalon ensemble including Minaret, Mosque, functioning Madrassah Miri-Arab, Amir-Alim-Khan Madrassah, Taqi (trading domes), Lyab-i- Hauz, Nadir Divanbegi, Khonaka. Samarkhand sightseeing included visit to Ceramic Factory, Registan Square & Shakhi-Zinda Necropolises, Gur Emir Mausoleum, Registan Ensemble (including Ulugbek, Shir Dor, Tillya Kari Madrassahs), Bibi Khanum Mosque and local bazaar. Tashkent sightseeing included visiting Subway, Independence Square, Tashkent Broadway, Amir Temur Monument & Square, Alisher Navoi Theater, Museum to the victims of Political Repressions, TV Tower (from outside), Courage Monument, New Mosque Minor, Khazrati Imam Com.

HEALTH CHECKUP AND CANCER AWARENESS CAMP FOR TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY FOLLOWED BY SAREE DISTRIBUTION (Project cost Rs 75,000)

On Saturday, 21st April our Club had organised the second transgender medical camp from 2 pm to 4 pm at Little Flower School, Vikhroli in association with CPAA. This was followed by Saree Distribution Drive for the transgenders. Many thanks to Pooja and Karishma for sponsoring the sarees. The project was attended by Rtn Hiten & Gopi Shah, Rtn Dr Chandrashekhar Joshi, Rtn Sonali Sinha and two prospective members Hiral Himatlal and Swati Mehta.

DONATION OF FOWLER BEDS

DONATION OF FOWLER BEDS FOR UROLOGY DEPARTMENT, BYL NAIR CHARITABLE HOSPITAL Our Club donated two Fowler Beds costing Rs 1 lakh to Urology Department of Nair Charitable Hospital. The department of Urology caters to about 1000 outpatients per month and has 25 indoor beds. They urgently needed Fowler Beds for their indoor patients 29 in male ward and 31 in female ward.

PEDIATRIC HEART SURGERIES

SPONSORED PEDIATRIC HEART SURGERIES (Project Cost Rs 12.50 lakhs) Our Club sponsored 50 Pediatric Heart Surgeries at Wockhardt Hospital. Our Members have been personally speaking to the parents of the kids who were operated upon. They were extremely gratuitous for the support given by our Club and the hospital in terms of service and financial aid that enabled the children to survive and have a hope for a better future.

DONATION OF MAMMOGRAPHY MACHINE TO SOMAIYA HOSPITAL

On 27th April, Rtn PP Sanjiv Mehta Rtn Nikunj Jhaveri, PE Rtn Kaushik Shah, Rtn Devina Shah and Rtn Parool Merchant visited Somaiya Hospital and met with Mr Samir Somaiya to discuss regarding donation of mammography machine to Somaiya Hospital, transgender support and to know the status of our old projects with the hospital. Ideas were exchanged on how maximum benefit can be given to the needy patients in the form of free testing and highly subsidized rate for low income patients. The range suggested by us was from free testing to Rs 1,000 per test. For transgender support they are happy to treat the community.

This project is of Rs.32 lac approx. which we are funding through a term gift. This is to provide mammograms at Somaiya Hospital at highly subsidized rates and for deserving cases free.

Our Club sponsors midday meal on behalf of every Rotarian celebrating his / her birthday and wedding anniversary. For the period 1st April to 30th June – 42 members celebrated their birthday and 29 members celebrated their wedding anniversary. Total 71 x Rs 300 per midday meal = Project cost Rs 21,300/-

SUPPORTING KINNARI FOUNDATION

Kinnari Cultural Centre provides donations towards part funding of school fees of underprivileged students. The donation of Rs.5 lakhs has been utilized to part fund the yearly school fees of approx. 130 children belonging to urban poor families at the rate of approx. Rs.4,000/- per child for the annual school fees.

PROJECT CHIRAG

The Club is undertaking Project Chirag – distribution of solar lamps to 2100 families @ Rs 1,000 per solar lamp across 20 villages in rural and slum areas of Ahmednagar District of Maharashtra or in villages of our choosing to help children study and create a brighter tomorrow. More than 100 Rotarians, 30 spouses and children supported this project. Project cost Rs 21,00,000. On 17th March a few members and spouses visited Mangrul Village and distributed 165 solar lamps. On 22nd March, our Club distributed 251 solar lamps to villagers of Tandulwadi - Uchavali Village in Palghar. This village has been adopted by our Inner Wheel C l u b o f B o m b a y Q u e e n ' s Necklace.

Project cost Rs 40 lakhs over 3 years Goal and Objectives By adopting the Manghrun village, we aim to bring about a socio-economic transformation and holistic development of the village community so that they can live a life of dignity and ensure that the youth and children of the villages have a bright future.

With the above interventions for the holistic development of the community we are confident of making a positive impact in the lives of the community in Manghrun village Total cost Rs 40 lakhs over 3 years. On 17th March our Club kicked off the Ideal Village Adoption GG Project. Rtn Nikunj Jhaveri, Rtn Neha Parikh and Ann Sapna Jalan visited Mangrul Village. Our Club distributed 165 solar lamps in the villages.

Our Club is undertaking a heartwarming Project to provide Counselling, Education, Rehabilitation, Vocational Skills and gainfully employing survivors of Rape and Human Trafficking at the Government Run Shelter at Deonar This is a global grant project of Rs.40 lacs.

The Project hopes to cover 50 women every 6 months over a two year period hence hoping to impact at least 200 women. The Project will be run with the help of NGO Save The Children India under their program Save Our Sisters. 4 girls have been placed in various facilities management roles in corporates in the city45 women participated in the activities of the center each spending an average of 7 days468 hours of education imparted to 34 women focusing on basic reading and writing400 hours of skill training in beauty imparted to 30 girls128 hours of basic computer literacy imparted282 hours of life skill training imparted to 44 girls

Currently only beauty is being taught – plan is to start training in retail, bed side assistance shortly One meeting a month is held every month to review the progress

SPONSORED THE EDUCATION OF 78 SPECIALLY CHALLENGED INDIVIDUALS OF SVRR SCHOOL (Project cost Rs 5 lakhs)

This is a NGO and vocational training institute dedicated to the rehabilitation and welfare of mentally challenged persons.

This year the Club has given them Rs. 5,00,000/- part of this used for meals for the individuals. This year after all their expenses, they have a shortfall of Rs. 7,00,000/-

One meeting a month is held every month to review the progress

SUPPORTING ANTARANG FOUNDATION End of Program Report The Transgender (TG) community stays devoid of employment opportunities because of a plethora of reasons such as lack of education, social and legal marginalization etc. The lack of employment opportunities pushes them to the brink of economic vulnerability. To solve for this problem, Antarang Foundation along with its partner organizations TWEET Foundation and In Harmony, initiated an intervention which will enable the community to bridge the employability gap.

Project is on track with the first Lalbaug Transgender Batch which started on 22nd August 2017 and has been completed. Project Cost Rs 5,85,810

JAI VAKEEL FOUNDATION

SVRR SCHOOL PROJECT

SPONSORING VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL FACILITY FOR 22 INDIVIDUALS AT JAI VAKEEL FOUNDATION AND RESEARCH CENTRE.

Our club had approved a project cost of Rs 54.5 lakhs to be disbursed over two years – Rs 34 lakhs for RY 2017-18 and Rs 20.5 lakhs for RY 2018-19.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING FOR GIRLS (PROJECT COST RS 4,00,882)

Objective is to provide various vocational training to underprivileged girls and place at the minimum 70% of them in jobs in various corporates. Sponsored 2 batches of 48 girls each where Viztar Interational have given Data Entry training as well as imparted softskills and English speaking courses at centres of Global Success Foundation. Over 70% the girls have been placed at various companies. Each earning in the range of 6000 – 15000 Rs/Month

Training by Viztar International is currently provided to 15 trainees under the Basic Beautician Training Program @ Virar and 15 candidates under the Bedside Assistant Training Program @ Nalasopara. The training has formally commenced on 8th May. The Basic Beautician Training Program is conducted from Monday to Thursday, Sat and Sunday from 2.00 – 4.30 pm whereas the Bedside Assistant Training Program is conducted from Monday to Saturday from 10.00 – 12.30. From 21st May, Viztar International shall commence with biweekly Soft Skills and Basic English Speaking Training Sessions. The said training will be held every Monday and Wednesday from 11.30-12.30 for the Basic Beautician Training Program and from 2.00-3.00 for the Bedside Assistant Training Program. Mobilisation for the next batch of 30 students will commence in the 2nd or 3rd week of June, 15 students for the Basic Beautician Training Program and 15 students for the Bedside Assistant Training Program.

GLOBAL GRANT TO SUPPORT EDUCATIONAL EFFORTS AND NEEDS OF GIRIVANVASI EDUCATIONAL TRUST, (NARESHWADI LEARNING CENTRE – TRIBAL SCHOOL FOR GIRLS) in Palghar, APPROVED BY THE ROTARY FOUNDATION (PROJECT COST RS 43,97,274.02)

Our project proposes to: 1. Train teachers in improved teaching methodologies to improve the student performance in the board exams

2. To improve the employability skills of the senior school children by conducting skills training

3. Imparting basic training in agri concepts by providing students with hands on exposure to the use of drip irrigation methods, seed and saplings, vermicompost, vermiwash, etc.

4. Scaling up the kitchen and dining areas by:a) Setting up bio gas plant to reduce the usage of firewood and LPG b) Provide kitchen and dining hall equipmentsc) Dining hall refurbishment On Saturday 26th May at 10 am our Club inaugurated the Basic Education and Literacy - Nareshwadi Learning Centre – Tribal School for Girls Global Grant Project in Palghar. Mr Samir Somaiya and his team from Somaiya were present. The project outlay is Rs.43 lakhs which will benefit 400 girls. It includes setting up a new Bio gas plant, renovation of the kitchen and dining room, Teachers training, vocational training centre and agri training centre. Members were taken on a campus tour after the inauguration. We saw the existing vocational training centre run by Somaiya Trust. The function ended with lunch. Rtn Hiten Shah, PE Rtn Kaushik Shah, PN Rtn Sonal Jhaveri, Rtn Satish Vora, Rtn Vijay Shah, Rtn Sandip Mehta, Rtn Hardik Kapadia, Rtn Nikhil Rungta and Rtn Deepak Harlalka were present for the inauguration.

EOTO – SPONSORING SUPPLEMENTARY EDUCATION IN MUNICIPAL SCHOOLS (PROJECT COST RS 13,74,000)

Each One Teach One (EOTO) is a development organization creating opportunities for the underprivileged children of municipal and government aided schools in Maharashtra & Delhi.Status - Project is on track with all the daily and monthly activities. Project Cost - Rs.13,74,000

S U P P O R T I N G O S C A R F O U N D AT I O N EDUCATION AND COMPUTER CENTRE PROGRAM & OSCAR FOUNDATION TOY CENTRE RUN BY NGO ANNAM

Our Club supported the Oscar Foundation Education and Computer Centre Program run by NGO Annam which has 174 children and Oscar Foundation Toy Centre which has 75 children. These centres are supplied with boiled eggs, bananas and shakti bhakris.

Project cost for one year Rs 2,78,880/-.

MATUNGA SCHOOL PROJECT

Dayanand Balika Vidyalaya and Junior College located in Matunga East is a MCGM (Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai) funded school.

Dimension Data along with RCMQN have undertaken the activity to build a Computer Lab on the first floor of the school and run this for a period of two years through required and able partners. The lab will consist of 20 seats and 1 additional seat for the instructor

Project Cost Rs 25 lakhs

MASOOM - NIGHT STUDY SCHOOLS

Supported Night Schools: Agarkar Night School & Meenatai Kurude Night School. The student strength of these schools together is 179. A recent Govt. GR has resulted in fewer teachers in night schools. Working on a plan to supplement this gap.
