STEWARDSHIP CORNER

The decision to give has not so much to do with calendars and budgets. Rather, the decision to give is really a matter

of putting your life with God into perspective. ***********

WEEKLY KNIGHT

What is Evangelization and Ecumenism?

Think about this. What if your life is the only Bible someone

observing you ever reads? As Catholic Christians, we are

called to be examples in our faith and to share our faith.

If you are interested in learning more about how you can be

part of the outreaching welcoming face of Saint Joan of Arc

Church, contact Commission Chair: Katie Kalarovich at:

667-4855 or [email protected].

[email protected].

Welcome to the Catholic Church! The Knights of Columbus Council 15265 would like to wel-come the newest members of our Church, who received full initiation into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil Mass last weekend. Congratulations and welcome to Charles, Jer-ry, Roberto, and Rosario! ¡Felicidades y bienvenidos a Charles, Jerry, Roberto y Ro-sario!

Pancake Time It seems like it’s been forever since we had pancakes, doesn’t it? Actually, it’s only been two months. But if you’ve been craving those tasty breakfast treats, your wait is almost over. Next Sunday, we will have our next pancake breakfast after the 10:00 and 12:00 Masses. Please take a left turn for the Fellowship Hall when Mass lets out next weekend and join us for food and fellowship. We’ll make it tasty for you!

Summer Clothing Drive Please bring in new or slightly worn summer clothes over the next two weekends. The Knights are holding our annual summer clothing drive to help those in need in our communi-ty. We thank you for your continued generosity and for always answering the call for our community.

SO THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE

It is not often that the author of one of the books of the Bible comes right out and tells us directly why he is writing what he is writing. In this Sunday’s Gospel reading, taken from the conclusion of John’s Gospel, the author tells us that he has chosen to record these events so “that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name” (20:31). The letter of John echoes this idea by saying that “[e]veryone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God” (5:1)—what we might refer to as being “born again.” Our reading from the Acts of the Apostles for this Second Sunday of Easter shows us exactly what it looks like when believers are born again through faith. Discussion Questions 2nd Sunday of Easter

April 8, 2018

First Reading / Acts 4:32-35 1. In this reading, the community’s treatment of pos-sessions is the early Church’s response to Christ’s life, death and resurrection. How does your treat-ment of possessions compare with theirs? 2. Who are the needy people in your immediate life? Can you take care of at least some of their priva-tions? What, if anything, can you do about the lacks of people in your extended world? If you joined forces with another person or group could you do something to alleviate some needs of these people? Second Reading / 1 John 5:1-6 1. Does what you have done make you a Christian, or what Christ has done? Which is more important, belief in Jesus or performance of good deeds? If you believe deeply and personally in Jesus will good deeds spring from that belief and love? 2. “… We know that we love the children of God when we love God. … ” Love of God presumes love for others. If the two loves (love of God and love for others) are so connected, and if one form of love always results in the other, does it matter which comes first? Gospel / John 20:19-31 1. What is the significance of Jesus’ breath when he gave the disciples the Holy Spirit? Is it the same Ho-ly Spirit you receive in Baptism and Confirmation? Jesus empowered his disciples with his Spirit so they could pass the gift of peace on to others. He said to them, “Whose sins you forgive are forgiven.” How is peace related to forgiveness of sins? 2. Making peace between God and the world was Jesus’ Easter gift to us. Do we have a part in helping spread that peace? Discuss Pope Francis’ statement regarding peace. … Peace to the whole world, torn apart by violence linked to drug trafficking and by the iniquitous ex-ploitation of natural resources! Peace to this our

Earth! May the risen Jesus bring comfort to the vic-tims of natural disasters and make us responsible

guardians of creation. Easter Sunday Mass, Vatican, March 31, 2013
