GIVE PRAISE TO GOD

*Hymn No. 232 “Jesus Christ Is Risen Today!”

*Prayer of Adoration (read by all in unison) Loving and ever-present God, you seek us up and down the roads of life, assuring us we are your beloved children. You choose to give us free will and release us to learn and grow. Yet you remain with us. Because of Easter we now know that nothing can snatch us from your hand or remove us beyond the reach of your care. And so it is that we worship you. We adore you and give thanks to you for this astonishing message of Easter resurrection.

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession (unison)

God of all mercies, we are sorry to admit how feeble our witness to the resurrection of Christ Jesus really is. We affirm it in our hearts, but bear little testimony to it either in our words or in our lives, which often have the appearance and odor of death rather than of new life. Forgive us, we pray, and set before us again the fact of the open tomb and empty grave. Fill us with resurrection power and renewed life, so that we may at last reflect the glow of that first Easter dawn, in the name of the risen Christ we pray. Amen.

(Silence is observed for personal reflection.) Assurance of Pardon *Response to the Assurance of Pardon *Hymn No. 238 (stanzas 1 & 2) “Thine Is the Glory”

LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD READ AND PROCLAIMED

Children are now invited to walk to the chancel steps for the Message. Message for Children

So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

Anthem based on The Song of Moses (Exodus 15) Edward C. Bairstow Sing ye to the Lord, for He hath triumphed gloriously. Pharaoh’s chariots and his host hath He cast into the sea. Mighty Victim from the sky, hell’s fierce powers beneath Thee lie; Thou hast conquered in the fight, Thou hast brought us life and light. Now no more can death appall, now no more the grave enthrall; Thou hast opened Paradise, and in Thee Thy Saints shall rise. Mighty Victim from the sky, hell’s fierce powers beneath Thee lie; Thou hast conquered in the fight, Thou hast brought us life and light; Thou hast opened Paradise, and in Thee Thy Saints shall rise. Alleluia! Amen.

OUR RESPONSE TO THE WORD

*Affirmation of Faith (unison) We trust in Jesus Christ, Fully human, fully God: Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: Preaching good news to the poor, and release to the captives teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to eternal life . . . In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks

and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth,

praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!

With believers in every time and place,

we rejoice that nothing in life or in death

can separate us from the love of God in

Christ Jesus our Lord.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Amen. (from A Brief Statement of Faith)

Preparing for Next Week Scripture Readings for April 12, 2015 Acts 4:32-35; Psalm 133; 1 John 1:1-2:2; John 20:19-31

Consider: It all happened on Sunday. It was on “the first day of the week” (John 20:19)—the

same day Jesus rose from the dead (John 20:1)—when the risen Lord appeared to a group of

disciples in a locked house and offered them the gift of the Holy Spirit. Then, one week later

(John 20:26), Jesus came again to the disciples (still shut inside the house), this time allowing

Thomas to see and touch his hands and side. Think about the place where you gather for

worship on Sunday. Is it open to the surprising presence of Christ and the liberating gifts of

the Spirit? (If not, does the Spirit still move? Does Jesus show up anyway?) Are there times

when your questions and doubts grow deeper? Are there times when your faith is

strengthened and renewed?

Simple Gifts

Concert of Folk & World Music by Duo Artists:

Linda Littleton & Karen Hirshon

Sunday, April 12, 2015 — 4:00 pm

Free-will offering received.

Hear them in the 10:30 am Worship Service as well!

Two women plus twelve instruments equals one good 'me when Simple Gi*s grace our chancel

area on the second Sunday of April. This award-winning band performs on an impressive array

of instruments, including two violins, mandolin, hammered dulcimer, recorders, and guitar plus

some more unusual instruments like the bowed psaltery, baritone fiddle, banjolin, guitjo, and

doumbek.

Simple Gi*s presents a wide variety of ethnic folk music, including everything from lively Irish

jigs and down-home American reels to hard-driving Klezmer freilachs, haun'ng Gypsy melodies,

and exo'c Balkan dance tunes. Throughout their performances, they put their own dis'nc've

stamp on tradi'onal tunes, blending styles from diverse cultures with their American roots.

According to the Cel'c Classic Fes'val in Bethlehem, PA, "few musicians can match the warmly

personal stage presence Simple Gi*s possesses." It is obvious that these women love the music

they play, and they know how to share their talents, their enthusiasm, and their sense of humor

with the audience.

Linda Li4leton and Karen Hirshon have performed as Simple Gi*s since 1995. The group was

founded by Li4leton in 1989 and has performed throughout the mid-Atlan'c region, including

appearances at the Smithsonian, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Na'onal Governors' Conven'on,

Longwood Gardens, Na'onal Theater, Whitaker Center, Hershey Theatre, Philadelphia Folk

Fes'val, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Ontario Center for Performing Arts, and dozens of colleges

and universi'es throughout the region. Simple Gi*s has opened for Natalie MacMaster, Tom

Paxton, John McCutcheon, Robin and Linda Williams, Jay Unger and Molly Mason, and Boys of

the Lough.

Simple Gi*s has recorded six albums. Their newest, "Crossing Borders: Music of Many Lands,"

was recognized by Indie Acous'c as including "one of the best songs of 2005." Their previous

album, "Time and Again," won a bronze star (third place) in the Crossroads Music Awards. Their

recordings include tradi'onal music from Romania, Hungary, Russia, Bulgaria, Greece, Ireland,

Scotland, France, Sweden, Denmark, and America, plus original composi'ons by each group

member.

On behalf of Wakonda, we would like to thank you for your continued

TAG – Tuesday Afternoon Group Tuesday, April 21 TAG continues on Tuesday, April 21 with an entertaining musical program

from Christopher Kenney, Director of Education at the McKinley Museum.

Chris is a talented pianist and his performance of “Songs Without Words” will take us from

the classical rhythms and romantic melodies of Felix Mendelssohn to the syncopated sounds

of jazz and blues. Get swept into music from Phantom of the Opera, and enjoy the familiar

theme from the Peanuts cartoons. Chris will also give a brief background about each piece.

Making this event extra special, he will perform on the new Bösendorfer piano in the

chancel.

The TAG chefs will prepare one of their delicious homemade meals. Plan to gather at 11:30

for a time of fellowship and greeting friends, followed by a meditation at 11:45, and lunch at

noon. The program will begin at approximately 12:45 pm. The cost is only $7.00.

The TAG season will conclude on Tuesday, May 19 with a visit from Ida McKinley.

Wondering how that’s possible? Mark your calendars now and come find out!

THANK YOU to all of you who participated in the 60/40 campaign for the Welcome Bags for

Hartville Migrant Mission. Your generosity filled over 50 bags and enough money was

donated that 20 more bags will be filled by the mission. They have expressed their thanks to

our church on Twitter.

Please cut them out of the product label and stash them in an envelope and

put it in the collection plate.
